Washington (CNN) – The number of Americans who blame President Obama for the recession has nearly doubled, according to a new national poll. But the USA/Today Gallup survey also indicates that more people still blame former President George W. Bush for the nation's economic problems.
Twenty-six percent of people questioned in the poll say Obama deserves a great deal of blame for the tough economic times, nearly double the number of people who felt that way last July. The survey also indicates that half of the public says the president deserves at least a moderate amount of blame over the economy.
According to the poll, 42 percent blame Bush, which is basically unchanged from the amount of people who last summer said Obama's predecessor in the White House deserved a great deal of blame for the nation's economic problems.
Economists say the country sank into recession in December 2007.
The USA/Today Gallup poll was conducted March 26-28 with 1,033 adults questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus four percentage points.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Monday indicates that 44 percent of Americans approved of how Obama is handling the economy, with 55 percent saying they disapprove. The 44 percent approval on the economy is down 10 points from last September, with disapproval up 10 points.

Then those same people should give president Obama credit when the ecomony improves, as it already is.
Let s the conservers say under whose watch U>S>A meltede conimicaly like ice in sahara desert.I kow thy are shameproof to say Obama.Vote the Gops out of political system in november and elect more Democrats .Bill left Bush surplusand Bush left Obama wreck economy.
Never forget that half of the population is below average in intelligence. Still, the population's gullibility and shortness of memory astounds me.
Thats because Americans have a short memory, but I cannot forget before the Presidential election when our economy almost literally collapsed. It was a depression not a recession and under who's do nothing watch. Then you had that old feeble man who might of been President not knowing what to do (Mccain). Thank god for Obama and his policies he will always get my vote
