Republicans celebrate April Fools by praising Obama

Republicans are praising President Obama on April Fools Day.
Republicans are praising President Obama on April Fools Day.

(CNN) - National Republicans praised President Obama Thursday and declared that he has "kept all his promises" and is "truly the greatest president ever."

No, this is not an episode of “The Twilight Zone.” It's an April Fools Day joke from the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

In a new Web video, the GOP organization tasked with regaining control of the Senate this November, cheers Obama for solving global warming "by replacing cars with low-emission unicorns” and achieving an unemployment rate of "negative 39 percent," among other “accomplishments.”

If it wasn’t already clear, the committee quickly said it's only joking:

"Get real,” an announcer abruptly said. “ObamaCare is just the latest in a long list of broken promises by the liberals in Washington. No transparency. A government takeover of health care. And even more jobs threatened by billions in mandatory new health care costs. Promise after promise…broken. Don't be fooled by Obama and the Democrats in Congress."

If Obamacare is so great, why does he still have to sell it??? Doesn't apply to him or congress, yet we are expected to be happy with it?

How much more damage will he be allowed to do to this country?

All you racists that are still supporting Obama need to wake up. I hope enough have awakened that after november he is reduced to a lame duck, that will reduce the damage he can do to america.

I guess destroying america is all part of his plan. During the campaign he mentioned the "57" states of america. Hmmmm, interesting slip, why not "49" or "51." Both more logical slips than "57." He could have been subconsciously telling us his beliefs. There are "57" Islamic states. Now I'm not necessarily a conspiracy theorist, but if it walks like a duck..............

Another set of propaganda. The republican philosophy is to let business run rampant and outsource out Jobs. Repetition of lies. Such a wonderful April's Fool Joke. By the folks that told you that allowed Wall Street to rip off the country and telling us that Iraq had WMD's. Hurray. Very, very funny. Not.

Are these people actually adults? Silly, childish, vengeful, mean, and simply ridiculous...that's what I see in that party. No matter where you stand politically, one has to recognize the vast difference in tactics. I'd rather deal with adults.

These morons can't even be funny. How dumb is this. If this crap is what they want to waste GOP money on then let these idiots do it.

Oh, Wow, that was really clever of the Republicans. Nobody probably saw through that until they said something. Now, does this not solidify just how childish the Republican Congressman and the party is? They can't put forth any real legislation, just fight and stomp their feet at whatever the Democrats present, but they have time for practical, albeit infantile, jokes. Just no hope for these people.

Well, if anyone would know about broken promises, it would be a republican.

What a joke! I love the Republicans calling out the Democrats for having "a long list of broken promises." That may be true, but if the Republcans would just take a moment to turn around, they would see their own trail of broken promises behind them, too. Also, according to Politifact, Obama made 501 campaign promises, and, to date, has kept 102 of them, broken 17, compromised on 35, has had 85 stalled, and currently has 262 of them in the works.

I am an independent but this smacks of more childish behavior on their side. I guess bi-partisanship is just yet another Washington myth. I believe the American public is sick of it. We all need help and both sides should be working together.

In view of the recent news about the shenanigans during a recent trip me thinks everyone should stop throwing stones.

After being accused by the Dems for months/years of having no agenda, it's nice to see the Senate Republicans are finally using their time constructively to make the country a better place to live in.

Wrong are the Dems for charging them with being the party of no!! This hilarious web ad proves it!

haha you cynical bastards...I think a better April Fools Day gag wouldve been a statement to the press that the G.O.P. has a positive, non-reactionary vision for the future of our nation..that would've been HILARIOUS!!!

Have fun at the tea bag party you guys!!!! The other 70% will be over here moving the country forward.

The biggest joke today which is true, I sorry to say, Is that the Republican Party is a waste of time because they have made no real effort to work with our new president. From the start of his presidency they have said no and blocked all paths to accomplish goals and efforts to make the United States a better place and a friendlier place to live.

Whoa! Hilarious. Better stick to real punchlines like Sarah Palin. Or here's an April Fool's joke: The GOP is supporting bondage clubs. Oops, that's actually true. Won't work.

How about stop wasting time on jokes and get your butts to work for this country!! You should have said "no" to that.

It was funny up to a point. The punch line needs a lot of work. Why don't you work on it Rs. Or, better yet, start working on anything else.

Why don't they spend their "creative thinking" time trying to solve problems instead of criticizing the other party. I've yet to hear any clearly stated solutions to the problems that vex the country.

I see the Republicans are still whinning!! Remember you did not even come close to doing as much as President Obama has done so far when you were in charge.

All this Conservatism will not help the problems we have only hold us back from the inevitable needs of the country and make it worse.
