(CNN) - Rudy Giuliani hailed former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio Monday as the "one candidate that [Florida Republicans] can trust" to uphold conservative values in Washington.
"This is an easy choice in this race," the former New York City mayor said at a press conference in Miami before a gathering of Rubio supporters. "This is an easy choice for a Republican because he is the one candidate that we can trust to represent Republican principles in Washington and remain a Republican if he goes to Washington."
Rubio will face Florida Gov. Charlie Crist in the GOP senatorial primary in late August.
Giuliani's endorsement is among Rubio's most high profile to date, and is being seen as political payback to Crist who refused to endorse the former New York City mayor during his presidential bid two years ago.
Crist instead lent his last-minute support to Arizona Republican John McCain, who ultimately won that state's pivotal presidential primary and effectively ended Giuliani's hopes of becoming the GOP's presidential nominee.
A Mason-Dixon poll late last month showed Rubio leading Crist among Republican voters by 11 points, 48-37 percent. Fifteen percent in that survey remained undecided.
But it was almost as if Giuliani was back on the presidential campaign trail himself Monday, using much of his 10-minute endorsement speech to criticize President Obama's policies - specifically his approach to the war on terrorism.
"Let's have an America that stands up to terrorism, not an America that has ambiguity and confusion," Giuliani said. "Do we want to see people like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed tried in New York? Or Miami? Shouldn't he be tried in a military tribunal?"
"The president can't make up his mind," he continued. "Do you understand what kind of lack of leadership that shows to the rest of the world? I tried over 4,000 criminals. The easiest decision I had was where to try them."
Rudy is so confused...WHERE did you try them at Rudy? You tried some of them in N. York didn't you. So why would you criticize Obama if he does it? So tried of all these hypocrites one minute they support something then the next we don't. We're 'supposed' to have the best legal system in the country so are you saying that we don't. Have a better argument of why you oppose this. At least say the cost to the tax payers would be too much to shoulder in this recession. At least people could understand that.
Talk about dilusional-can Rudi just go away? One of the most self-proclaimed, hypocritcal public officials can only hurt any candidate looking to reach the minds of the bottom 99% of Americans, rather than top 1%. You had your chance Rudi, and after lining your pockets, you didnt leave much for the rest of us. Thanks for nothing!
Who in their right mind would want this nut to endorse them, let alone listen to his stupid opinions. Giuliani, you are a has been.......I take that back you are a never were.
One more reason to support Charlie Crist if you are a Republican..don't let the teabaggers make the GOP a far right fringe party!
America's answer to so many problem's can be summed up in two word's Rudy Giuliani and I'm not being dramatic. This is the man that can make America great once again and I can only hope and pray that America wake's up and realizes this and supports Mr. Giuliani in every way by voting for those who he knows will get us back on track. Mr. Giuliani saved New York and he can save America....Please Mr, Giulani, be there for us in 2012 and bring America back as one.
Who cares where they are being tried, the point is they are being tried correct...Rudy think of something else to hate about......
Decisions are always quick and easy for Republicans. That's why they're usually wrong.
The biggest criminal that Giuliani didn't capture was part of his own administration, and he is now in jail !! Bernard Kerik was Rudy's buddy and bodyguard and was supposed to go on and become head of Homeland Security.
Given Guiliani's lackluster showing in the Florida presidential primary in 2008 (and he put ALL his eggs in THAT basket) I don't believe Christ has very much to fret about.
if rudy is backing him he;s a sure loser
he could not carry 1 state
republicians would be so much better if they new what over means
There goes Giuliani again..using fear as a campaign tactic. It didn't work in 2008 and it won't work again now. He should be ashamed of himself for using the tragedy of 911 for his own advantage.
Flash! Shifty eyed Rudy Giuliani says you can trust credit card scam artist Marco Rubio.
There you have it, folks! How could Florida possibly go wrong?
And this guy has any credentials because he was ? Oh yeah, a Mayor, and a poor one at best. How quick we forget his role in 911, the role that led up to communications being in total turmoil so first responders could not talk to each other. Forgot that huh? > Rotten Rudy>
Go to bed, Guliani!
Why would anyone pay any attention to a serial loser (and serial adulterer who likes to dress in drag (perhpas too much) and married his cousin?
He speaks with a pronouced lisp (slushes his esses) and has nothing of value to say
Thes is ithe guy who put his emergency HQ ih the World Trade Towers AFTER the first bombing.
Trust a Republican? Conservative values?
What planet are you living on Guiliani?
Have you seen what's going on in Iraq lately? Doesn't look like we accomplished a whole lot there. But 4300 young Americans gave their lives for it.
Get real Guiliani, and get lost!
"Bitter old white men" comes to mind.
Who cares what Mr 9/11 has to say about anything?
I would not vote for anyone who has been endorsed by Giuliani. He is ridiculous.
Republicans have no principles and I am sure Rubio will continue that fine tradition.
President Obama DOES show leadership, in sharp contrast to the Bush Administration that almost took our nation down, both at home and abroad. Where were Guiliani's complaints then???
The term "conservative values" is an oxymoron. As for Giiuliani, well, he's just a moron.
i think he looks better in a dress an makeup. i would vote for anybody that this jerk is against just to not be associated with rudy. go Crist in fla. this should help your reputation.
He is the authority in who's republican enough to win the seat. He is afterall pro choice.
i thought this blowhard was moving to Bolivia or some other country to work, why is he still here? He ought to hook up with Rush Limbaugh who said he would move out of the states if health reform was passed
