Wasserman Schultz confirms threat, faces feisty town hall crowd

Fort Lauderdale, Florida (CNN) - A top House Democrat, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, confirmed for the first time that she received threats in the days after health care reform was signed into law.

In an interview with CNN Monday, Wasserman Schultz said information about the threats were turned over to federal law enforcement officials.

The south Florida Democrat held her first town hall since the passage of health care reform.  At Fort Lauderdale's city hall, Wasserman Schultz Monday night defended the new law to hundreds of her constituents. The meeting turned rowdy after many of her supporters packed the auditorium, forcing dozens of raucous tea party activists and opponents of health care reform to stand outside of the venue.

One constituent accused Democrats of engaging in dirty dealing to get the law passed. Wasserman Schultz responded, "there were no such dirty deals. We're not here to discuss process. This is the law."

Thats how you handle obstructionists. Just push back. HARD.
In time these reactionaries will see that this was a much needed law.

I hope that the authorities are monitoring the actions of the Tea Party fringe. Domestic Terrorists are no different than the enemies of the United States abroad. In fact, they are much closer.

I find it funny that she tells the crowd "We're not here to discuss process"....The majority of this country didn't, and still don't, want this law but she and many other Dems just pushed it through anyway. I didn't realize communism had a process to discuss that she would feel the need to make that comment!!!!!

More proof of the craziness of these Tea Party people. They are angry, violent, racist whites who are angry about losing power in this society.

No dirty deals??????????????? Then what should we call them, a compromise, a little scrach on the back, a pat on the butt. what do we call them Debbie.
of course she doesnt want to discuss the process due to the fact that she knows it is wrong, if it were right right she would be happy to talk about it. Tramp!

All these death threats have been coming from supposed "patriots" who wouldn't know democratic, Constitutional process if it bit them in the behind!

These people who threatened our duly-elected Representatives are nothing but a bunch of sore losers who can't handle the fact that the Democrats are in power.

I think all these yahoos should move to a country where leaders are decided by assassination and military coup, so they can gain a little perspective on how important it is to uphold the rule of law and respect the democratic process.

Finally, someone's supporters showed up IN ENOUGH NUMBERS to drown out the rowdies in the minority.

Thank you for not using the threats to get attention a la Cantor, Rep. Wassserman. Thank you for not being scared or coerced into NOT voitng for this bill. And thank you for setting the record straight vis-a-vis the so-called back room deals.

    Glad you're safe.

I support Debbie Wasserman Schultz. She represents her constituents in a fair manner and is a super politician. Those Floridians need to support her, after all she geniuely has her constituents at heart when she votes.

The old folks in Florida need to shut up! They get scared and never read the facts. They allow themselves to be fooled.........I hope I can still read and reason when I am older.

It is sickening to see we don't read and learn for ourselves. We allow others to dimenish and tell us what we should find out for ourselves.

Become an informed voter, you owe it to yourself and to our nation.

Very good! I'm glad to hear the real constituents stood up to these so called tea baggers. That's what we all need to continue to do. Call them out for what they really are, hate mongering liars! There's only one way to slay a liar and that's by hitting them with the true facts. Let’s keep up the good work and not back down to these people.

Nothing new here. This is the way these Democrats roll, even "dirty dealing to get the law passed." And now they don't even slither away and try and hide their "dirty dealings."

I like Debbie and I hope she remains SAFE while she tries to work with the WOLVES.

Are these ’raucous Tea Party activists' in Debbie's district??? If not, then why are they there???? This is the same that went on in Nevada – Most of the protestors were NOT from Nevada!!

Debbie has to answer to her constituents and her constituents ONLY. Those LOUD-MOUTH haters should mind their business and go back to their district!!

Rep Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is a fine young woman, and I'm appalled by her getting death threats! Am pleased as always though by her standing up to her opponents and saying what's needed to be said! Good for her!!

Amazing!! Debbie Wasserman Schultz receives threats because she had the audacity to want health care coverage for all Americans. As if in wanting to provide health care coverage, she committed a crime!

I'm from South Florida and one of her constituents! Why did she refuse to face us before this was signed?? We begged for a meeting and she refused but had no problem going to California to be Pelosi's puppet. She is a disgrace to those who elected her. She does not have our interests at heart and does not care at all for those she is supposed to represent.

She had that town hall packed with union thugs who were paid to attend. They are unemployed and needed the cash – it's the only way to get anyone who supports her there. Anyone who asked any question she didn't like was thrown out. She is horrible and I can't wait till November when District 20 will send her a very loud and clear message – never forget those you represent!

"there were no such dirty deals. We're not here to discuss process. This is the law."

I commend Rep. Wasserman Schultz on trying to explain the facts to the Tea Party crowd, but these people are immune to reason and logic.

Hell, some of them actually think the new law includes a public option.

Most of the Dem yes votes are hiding under a rock until the recess is over and they can get back to Washington. They refuse to face the voters and when they do they pack the hall with thugs from the local union and ignore questions about their record.
And the Obama regime accuses Karzi of being corrupt.
