Holder says no need to read Miranda rights to bin Laden if captured

Washington (CNN) - Attorney General Eric Holder said Wednesday there would be no need to read Miranda rights to Osama bin Laden if the al Qaeda leader were captured.

Holder told a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that enough evidence exists against bin Laden to convict him in a trial, so that advising him of his rights to protect the legal admissibility of subsequent interrogation was unnecessary.

If anyone catches a glimpse of this guy, I doubt he'd live long enough to be read the whole thing, anyway.

  3. Who will CNN vote for?

My guess would be not only no miranda rights, but no cleanliness or delay in killing the sick goat deflowerer.

Make it messy. Videotape it. Broadcast it far and wide to let everyone know this is what will happen to you.

Then, when they're done. Continue to harass the descendents of Osama bin sheeplover aggressively for generations.

    1. IF Bin Laden is captured alive - which is doubtful - I don't want ANYTHING that any appeals court could use to say that the court didn't follow the rule of law.

READ HIM HIS RIGHTS. Let him know that anything he has said will be used against him in a court of law - and let's face it, he's said a lot of things that are admissible in court. That way, he knows he's screwed from the moment he's caught.

    ~*~*~*~

    2. If Bin Laden is captured alive - which is doubtful - I don't want him getting off on a technicality in any appeals court or international court.

GET HIM A LAWYER. The idea is that a lawyer is made available to anyone accused of anything. There's no law that says it has to be a good lawyer. Get him an ambulance chaser who couldn't pour water out of his boot if instructions were written on the heel.

    ~*~*~*~

    3. If Bin Laden is captured alive - which is doubtful - he is NOT an American citizen. He doesn't get the same rights as an American citizen. However, he committed crimes on American soil which gives the U.S. first dibs when he's captured - and he probably won't be captured alive. Catch him, get him into court, make the case iron-clad with NO possibility of the verdict getting thrown out by any court either here or abroad.

Do it right, do it legally, show the world that the U.S. will bring justice and not revenge according to the rule of law. After all, Bush isn't in the White House anymore which means we can be the beacon of justice once again. Catch him, try him, find him guilty, execute him. I don't care if he's executed the same way Hussein was. And make it public. If there was ever an argument for a public hanging, it's for Bin Laden.

Who cares. The Republicans just want to play games and patronize about how they think they know about how to be tough...yet all they cared about was making $ for their lobbyists in Iraq. Bush himself even said bin Laden was not a priority.

    Are you serious?

Now, our police officers are supposed to make Miranda decisions based on the preponderance of evidence???

Sure sounds like political backstepping to me ... this man is a disgrace to his profession.

Unfortunately Obama and Co. has made it necessary to read miranda rights to foreign terrorist even though they are not supposed to be protected under the Constitution. Of course Obama would love it if we didn't read them the miranda rights because some judge would let his terrorist buddies go for civil rights violations. Obama is a Traitor.

The pathetic thing about this issue is that after almost nine (9) years, 2 needless wars, 4,500 American lives, thousands upon thousands of wounded Americans, an estimated 350,000 cases of PTS syndrome, 10 billion a month spent for the wars since '03 and an annual defense budget of 3/4 of a trillion dollars, we still cannot put a hand on this criminal.

No Miranda necessary, Guantanamo still open for business, not even a slap on the wrist for torturers, Afghanistan commitment increased, military tribunals continued, offshore drilling expanded . . . Obama is sure continuing a lot of Bush-league garbage.

Funny the Nutsi Party calls him socialist when he is far closer to them than anything truly left wing.

This, however comical it might seem is a step in the right direction for the Obama administration. This is a man who has brutally killed tens if not hundreds of thousands of innocent people without discretion and I think Miranda Rights just don't apply. It's one small step for Eric Holder and, well, one small step for the Obama administration.

"You have the right to remain silent..." – When the day comes that they catch this guy, I get the sneaky feeling some 17-year-old Marine is going to get carried away and rienforce that option with a 7mm slug.

Either the rules are the same for everyone or for none of us.Next it will be no Miranda rights for baby killers or DUI drivers. It's bad enough you can get out of some offensives just because you're a cop or a senator or a celeb.

Republicans have backed themselves in a corner with their "NO" to everything until their not reading what they themselves support. Mitch McConnell just made a fool of himself as usual speaking out against the financial reform bill saying it saying it will bail out banks and it had to be pointed out to him he wasn't reading the reform bill.

This man is an idiot, if we are required to advise crooks & killers of their rights then it should apply to everyone. Maybe he is looking for an excuse to get bin laden off

Oh, I see how it works!

"We know you're guilty, so there's no need to mirandize you or give you a trial. We'll just shoot you where you stand."

This is AMERICA! We're supposed to do things the right way, not the Bush way.

Let's see, who else should not be mirandized "just because" a prosecutor is absolutely certain that they have enough evidence to convict them at a trial? We know Bush is absolutely guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt of war crimes. No need to mirandize him when he's arrested. Cheney, Rove, Rice, Ashcroft - nope, no need to tell them their rights. We have enough evidence to convict them at trial.

Yeah, as long as someone "just knows" that another person is guilty and "just knows" that there's enough evidence to convict him, then there's no need to actually FOLLOW THE LAW, is there?

And there is absolutely no reason NOT to read him his rights. It would dramatize the difference between two opposing views of human society. Give him the best attorney money can buy and put the trial on worldwide television.

God-given, inalienable rights are not limited to Americans. Everyone in the world should have those rights.

I would also enjoy a public, televised execution after he has been found guilty. We could have a lotto to see who gets to be on the firing squad. I'd be willing to pay ten bucks for a chance, and we could donate the proceeds to reducing the national debt.
