CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (CNN) - President Obama said Thursday that he is "100 percent committed" to the mission of NASA and its future.

Speaking at the Kennedy Space Center, the president sought to try to sell his vision for the space program and assuage workers' concerns about his plan.

Obama's proposal would pump an additional $6 billion into NASA over the next six years, but would pull the plug on a project to send astronauts to the moon.

The White House budget office said the Constellation Program, which had sought to send astronauts back to the moon by 2020, is behind schedule, over budget and overall less important than other space investments.

The administration would instead invest in deep space exploration and scientific development.

Obama Says He is 100% Committed to NASA.

Let's see, he has spend close to 2 trillion dollars since he has been in office (and look closely where the money has gone). Our space program is one of the prestige things we have left in the world and he is dismantling it.

We will now have to rely on his buddies the Russians to get us to the space station on their space craft. They are not canceling their program.
This president is full of enough hot air to send a manned ballon around the world. Who is he trying to fool anyway. You completely give up your ability to get man into space.

What we have to learn is when Obama says he is, he isn't. We have a name for that in the neighborhood where I grew up.

NASA is going to have be put on the back burner for now. Period. I'm all for innovation, exploration, and space colonization but right now we have to address the essentials. Getting the economy back in full swing, allocating resources to education, JOBS, paying back our debts are way more important to this country than sending another shuttle off into space. Our needs right here on this Earth need to be addressed ASAP!

Obama is committed to NASA alright. Oh yes! Instead, the Liar-in-Chief is committed to destroying NASA and its dedicated and resourceful employees, And of course, in the process, weakening our country EVEN more all under the guise of wise and intelligent decisions.

The president and his minions have become most adept at the use of smoke and mirrors.

If you believe the president, well...I have a low-mileage, mint condition 57 Chevy convertible owned by a sweet old lady...

America, are you still able to see through the haze?

Obama's health care idiocy will cost us annually a hundred times what NASA does. Obviously, Obama is more interested in propping up welfare bums who contribute nothing to the country other than loud whining for more handouts than he is in actually forwarding human progress.

Guess he will borrow more from China, since he is spending all US taxpayer money on healthcare for illegals and government payroll.

NASA has been doing the same thing for 25 years and hasn't done anything but spent money on repeating the same, good shake up if you ask me

I'm willing to be that we pay less to go up on a Russian rocket than it costs us to launch on a shuttle.

I hope that NASA can develop two groups. One group would study the Earth. The other group would have two missions; one would be to explore the stars via telescopes and other devices while the other would develop plans to explore (and settle) other planets, the Moon and the astroid field with robotic, satelite and human exploration.

Obama is committed to trying to get re-elected. Without NASA and getting votes out of Florida he has no chance. Anyone who thinks this stunt is anything more than that is kidding themselves.

Is the POTUS just pumping money into NASA because FL is such a must have state during elections?

We need money for our childrens education, to put people back to work, to fix roads and intrastructure.

If given a choice of having a first rate education, a good paying job with benefits or watching men try to get to Mars I will take the former.

Hey Obama, have you sent a "Thank You" note to Newt Gingrich for implementing his plan to overhall NASA?

The least you could have done was to give Newt some credit.
