Arizona senators call for stronger security on border with Mexico

Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jon Kyl called Monday for the immediate deployment of 3,000 National Guard troops to the state’s border with Mexico.
Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jon Kyl called Monday for the immediate deployment of 3,000 National Guard troops to the state’s border with Mexico.

Washington (CNN) - Sens. Jon Kyl and John McCain, both Republicans from Arizona, called Monday for the immediate deployment of 3,000 National Guard troops to the state's border with Mexico and other steps to increase security.

Illegal aliens crossing the border into Arizona from Mexico were causing a spike in crime and other problems that needed immediate attention, said Kyl and McCain at a news conference with two Arizona sheriffs.

"The situation has spiraled out of control," McCain said, noting that 17 percent of those caught trying to illegally enter Arizona from Mexico had U.S. criminal records.

McCain and Kyl repeated a past call for 3,000 National Guard troops to be sent to the border right away, along with federal funding for another 3,000 U.S. Customs and Border agents to be deployed along the Arizona-Mexico border by 2015.

In addition, their 10-point plan calls for a double-row border fence, increased mobile surveillance of the border region, more federal funding and hardship duty pay for border patrol agents in the most dangerous areas.

"You can't live in Arizona and not have this problem every day," Kyl said. "People are fed up."

John McCain is a big fat loser! I hope Arizonians DO NOT give him more time to do nothing in Washington. To be honest, he is quite pathetic at this point and must be desperate to be backtracking on his own recent statements of being a maverick as if the public don't remember that he paraded around the country 2 years ago, he is Mrs. Dumber about how mavericky they were and she referred to him as a maverick last month at McCain's rally. If he is trying to distance himself from Palin's divisive words at the rally, well I would say it is too late for that McCain, you Sir will be getting your walking papers soon. Maybe Sarah Palin can get you a job on Fox News since you definitely will be a bitter old man by then. I know Cindy and Meghan are just right down embarrassed by the old man.

I had a lot of respect for John McCain as a candidate, but he is showing his true hand to do anything to make the Democrates fail. He is destroying his lagacy as a war hero and true American. John where is your backbone? Gee John! save yourself from the rest of those unpatriotic goons.

This old crook McCain is making $174,000 per year as a Senator, on top of that he enjoys free medical care and retirement benefits that are supported by all tax payer money. He also received social security payment and medicare. This old crook cost a lot on money and is a burden to all Americans. Lay him off, send him home and stop all free entitlement payments now.

Hey folks they been shipping in illegals for a long time. The old Meat packing companies Like Armour, Swift and others had good strong unions and were a good place to work with good pay and benefits.

Along came IBP Excel, Tyson and others and busted the unions by shipping in Illegals sometimes even setting up trailer camps on the company grounds.

They're doing the same thing with construction companies where they can get away with it.

Hey Ray, if all the white people went back to Europe, what would be next for Mexicans? Canada? Mexicans only flee here for 1 purpose, to evade their own society of drugs, violence, and poverty. If Mexicans had all of the world, they would want something else. Just face it, intelligence, fortitude, and structure is just something that the Mexican society has a whole just does not possess. When the white man decides to leave, Mexican will get the worst of it. But, that is never going to happen, you need the white man. Face it...

He wants the National Guard to be sent to the border and also take a stronger stance with Iran (war perhaps?) – is he going to clone our Guardsmen?

The national guard troops you clowns want are probably in Iraq because of that dumb President Bush and his evil wars.

3,000 National Guard troops? That's quite a lot... Should we also send up a few AC130 gunships to blast would-be busboys, house painters and melon-pickers? Do we truly have a problem larger than Iraq/Afghanistan that needs a few battalions to be flung into the fray? Or is this political grandstanding by two fools who have no real solutions to real problems?

Well Mr McCai thank you for you military service and I'm sorry for your time as a POW. However it is time for you to go home and let smeone come in that can look out for the average american. Ceate some jobs at home by bringing the jobs back that have been outsourced to India and other places. Tax the companies heavily that outsource to foreign countries. Vote in a fair flat tax and eliminate phony tax breaks.

John McCain's loss to President Obama has proved to be too much for the Maverick. John McCain is getting "shorter" by the minute, his fame is done and over with. Palin done him in and now Jon Kyl will finish him off.

Unbelievable John McCain. Now that you are up for re-election you suddenly care about this. Where have you been the last 30 years?
Typical to care just months before mid term elections. What a joke!
Vote this old rich white man out AZ!

    @Ray

Who says that conservatives don't like immigrants? Most of us welcome immigrants. It was what this great country was built on. We understand what "Bring us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" means. No other country in the world has ever provided a bigger welcome for those in the world who are oppressed and want to live free than the United States of America. We do, however, advocate for immigration to be done in a legal manner. We expect that if you come to this country, you come here willing to do what it takes to become a citizen of this country, and to be willing to work hard and make your own way. We also expect you to learn to speak english and teach your children to speak it. I don't think that those are unrealistic expectations.

Where are the Mexicans in all this? Why aren't they putting troops on their side of the border to help stop the illegal immigrants?

And what about TX, CA, and NM – Why aren't they demanding that their govs put National Guard people along the border to patrol it as well?

Is AZ the only state that's taking matters into it's own hands while the politicians in DC "debate" what to do?

my son is in the reserves, he has been told he will be going to the border and will be given 16 hour notice to arrive when it happens.
Quit making every thing political and start thinking about your country, not your party!

I second their call. The borders need to be completely sealed for security reasons. It has become a free, endless passage for drug traffickers.

Mesa Mick...we in California would love to have the Guard at the border. But we have a Weak Governor and a Democratic State Assembly. We can't stop the flow because the state governemnt is to busy pandering to the pro-immigration groups. All we can do is continue to bankrupt our once great state.

Living in Arizona and watching these sick commercials for McCain, we clearly see what a slime this clown is. I am a liberal but would rather vote for Hayworth because at least he is a total jerk who does not try to fool people. Moderation popular, McCain is there. Right wing extremism required, McCain is there. You moron.

We are all here illegally as far as the native Americans are concerned. Do we really have the right to call others illegal? We are all living on stolen property! This country was founded on slave labor, murder and robbery.

Our immigration system needs to be reformed. Rather than simply saying no to everything the GOP should start working on a comprehensive reform. Don't play politics with the Latino community, election day is coming soon.
