Washington (CNN) - They're angry at the government and are taking to the Washington area to protest what they see as the trampling of the U.S. Constitution. Their specific fear: Americans' right to bear arms under the Second Amendment will be taken away.

"We're in a war. The other side knows they are at war, because they started it," said Larry Pratt, president of the Gun Owners of America. "They are coming for our freedom, for our money, for our kids, for our property. They are coming for everything because they are a bunch of socialists."

Pratt was one of the speakers at the Second Amendment March in Washington on Monday. The crowd - made up almost entirely of men - used language about war and fighting. But when pressed, they are quick to point out they don't mean actual armed violence.

Pratt said they'll be able to get rid of their opponents and "get some fighters" - election fighters.

"That's why we have some primaries this year, and we need to send them a message that we are coming for the Republican RINOS [Republicans In Name Only], not just the Democrats ... that's the second event in November," he said, referring to midterm elections.

The lunatic right wing fringe is yet again on bold display spouting lies, hatred, non-sense and bizarre conspiracy theories. Like their kindred nut cases the 'Death Panelists' and Birthers, their claims are patently false.

Americans correctly recognize these loud mouth thugs as a modern day resurrection of an ugly past from the likes of Joe McCarthy, John Birch, George Wallace and Timothy McVie. Our black President sticks in their craw and they cannot stand it. Too bad!

America is now multicutural, multi-racial and multi-religious and there is no turning back the page to return to the 'good ole days' of white, Protestant supremacy. We are all God's children and America's progress towards social justice cannot be stopped.

This language and these nut jobs are exactly what breeds anti-government fanatics like Timothy McVeigh. It is very dangerous and sad. The GOP is going to be responsible if anything violent happens. PERIOD!!! They have done nothing to make this matter more civil.

Republicans stand for law abiding Americans having guns for protection.

Democrats stand for criminals having guns in the blue areas where they shoot people and contribute to insane murder rates in lib meccas like Chicago, Detroit, and Washington DC.

Democrats don't want non-violent Americans with no criminal record having a gun for hunting or protection. However, they fully support drug dealers and gang members having illegal guns that they use to shoot people in all the blue cities of America.

Ask yourself, what side are you on?

OK, this is just scary. What about us people that believe in the constitution but don't want another's interpretation shoved into our face?

I am not a gun person and don't feel that I should have this displayed in public.

Hmmmmm, sounds like a similar argument only change it to gays. So I say, if you can have your guns then people that wish to be married should be allowed to do so.

    Peace :-)

    At war... With whom?!

I don't see any proposed legislation to ban guns.

It may be a great rallying cry, but it's also a total lie.

The Democrats are the ones who are trying to take away the guns from law abiding Americans who used them to hunt animals.

The same Democrats who support liberal animals using their guns to hunt people in the blue cities.

I find it interesting that all of these people scream about their second amendment rights- because they need their guns and militias to defend themselves against a tyrannical government – yet the only time you hear about guns being used is when some idiot kills an innocent person who has nothing to do with the government.

These nut jobs are out of control..Who the hell told them that Washington wants their stupid guns..Even the Democrats stay away from the issue these days..This is another case of morons who got themselves wound up over absolutely nothing. One thing they have proven though is that the lower the IQ the better chance that one will own a gun..

Other than Fox "News" and other right wing radio hosts, no one in the Obama admistration is talking about taking away our Constitutional right to own guns. Unfortunately lying is protected by the Constitution.

Here is something for the folks who think the Constitution should be read as the Founding Fathers wrote it (i.e. Justice Scalia's strict construction theory). When the Second Amendment was drafted the firearms were pretty much limited to single-shot, muzzle-loading pistols, rifles and muskets. I guess following Justice Scalia's interpretetation that means that every American has the right to keep and bear any single-shot, muzzle-loading firearm of their choice. Anything else is not covered by the Constitution and Bill of Rights and is subject to local (i.e. State or Municipality) control. As many of the 2nd Amendment righters are opposed to Federal intrusion they should welcome the State or Municipal restrictions on firearms possession and use.
For the record, I am a longtime (over 45 years) gun owner, hunter and former Navy marksman. I have shot on rifle and shotgun teams. I have taught kids safe gun handling. I believe in both open and concealed carry of firearms (where appropriate). I also recognize the rights of private property owners to have some say in whether or not I am allowed to carry firearms on their property. I also believe people with convictions (not merely arrests) for violent crimes and people undergoing psychiatric training should be specifically restricted from being able to purchase or possess firearms.
I will also go pretty much all of you one better – like Switzerland and Israel everyone between the ages of 18 and 60 who is not a felon, and is physically and mentally sound, should be trained in the proper use of firearms and officially enrolled in a "well regulated militia" (that phrase is right out of the 2nd Amendment – check it out). That means there is a clear chain-of-command and levels of responsibility for each member. Because members of the militias would be responsible to report regularly for training and certification their ability to keep and bear arms can easily be maintained.
