Israeli defense minister expresses worries about relations with U.S.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak expressed concern Monday over deteriorating relations with the United States.

Jerusalem (CNN) - Israel's defense minister expressed concern Monday about deteriorating relations with the United States and warned that "the growing alienation" with President Obama's administration "is not a good thing for the state of Israel."

Speaking to Israel radio on the commemoration of Memorial Day, Ehud Barak said it was important "to act to change our relations with the United States." Barak is the center-left Labor Party leader who serves in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's largely right-wing government.

"We are tied with the U.S. in bonds of many years of friendship, of a strategic partnership. From them we get 3 billion dollars every year, from them we get the best planes. They stood by us when [we] needed to fight. ..."

He said that Israel has American weapons worth billions of dollars that Israel would use "if, God forbid, a war is forced upon us."

I dunno, maybe if Israel stopped stoking hostilities in the region by building settlements in disputed territories the US might have a friendlier tone?

The relationship wouldn't be strained if Israel would stop building their settlements. The more Pres. Netanyahu pushes his right wing agenda, the more he will further alienate the U.S. If Israel is serious about a 2 state solution they will stop building now. But from what I see, they have no intention on stopping.

How much does Israel want the U.S.A. to give them in money and support without giving up anything to further the peace process? The U.S. has been attacked in variuos ways ever since we supported Israel's creation back in 1948. Robert Kennedy was killed by a Palestinian because of our support for Israel. We were attacked on 9/11 because of our support for Israel. What do these people want??? And they won't cooperate with the U.S. in making any peace deals. Let them take care of themselves and we'll just butt out, how about that!

Well, Mr. Ehud Barak, WE the America Taxpayer, are giving Israel, $7 MILLION a day in aid! Money that in my opinion would be best spent in our nation's schools!

According to ifamericaknew.org in 2009, WE, Americans, gave Israel ....... $3 BILLION in foreign aid.

BTW support is not the same as agreement! The U.S.A. can disagree with Israeli policy and STILL support Israel!

Again.......... $3 BILLION in foreign aid to Israel would be best spent HERE AT HOME!

I cannot believe that we continue to support this moronic Israeli regime. Who is in charge of what? The United States, through its Jewish lobby, will never help with a solution in this area. When are we going to be even handed? WHEN?

With the current Administration they are big on insulting our friends and extending all the graciousness to the thugs and dictators of the world. Obama's rabid lefties hate Israel and the Jewish state so this is no real surprise. Just wait for all the anti-semitic uglienss to start flowing from their comments shorlty.

It's called COMPROMISE Israel! George Bush is no longer the chief cowboy in charge. There is no doubt Israel and US has a special relationship and should remain as such, but when you are wrong, you are wrong and it you have to be willing to bend a little to get what you want and in your case the compromise is a 2 state solution and yes, you should defend yourselves against nuts like Iran and such, but don't make the same mistake as GW Bush with this cocky, arrogant attitude, it really did not help anything.

Sure he is worried, they were so use to the US walking lock stock and barrel with everything they say and all the abuse they continous place on the Palestinian. The US is finally waking up to the fact that Israel relies solely on the US and not the opposite. Without the US backing, Isreal would cease to exist, yet they abuse a population under the guise of religon and security of Isreal. Isreal have no support or friends in the middle east yet they continously thumb their nose at America due in part to the what ever abuse inflicted on the other than jewish people is alright big moneyed jewish lobbist and supporters in the US, who are quick to over look all of the facts to label anyone who condems Isreal for its actions as anti-semetic. American are finally waking up because we see the parallel in the actions of Isreal as mirror of the sorid past of America.

Isralies should never forget the speech obama made saying "The evening call to prayer is the sweetest sound you will ever hear" or the speech where when talking about Muslims, he declared "If it comes to us verses them I will have to stand wwith them" So watch your back Israel, don't be suckered by this clown.

Seems like all give no receive with this country. It's not the Palistinians' fault that the English conquered the lands and then hacked them up into new countries with no thought as to the cultures already living there. It's not the Israeli's fault that the Palestinians are rightfully pissed that their lands were taken by one world power and given to another nation backed by another world power.

I say we just cut ties with both sides and let them go...like parents sending a child to college.

"War forced upon you"?? Do you mean YOU starting the war and entangling us into it? The way he is talking you would think Tel Aviv is the capital of the U.S. Give the Palestinians a state and leave them alone and you won't have this mess. Israel is always getting us into trouble.

Obama's idealism does not have a place in world reality. When will he understand this? His lack of world political history is evident.

Israel is the obnoxious little brother of US foreign policy...they act as vile and despicable as they want all the while knowing that their big brother in the US prevents anybody from slapping them down. In exchange the US gets absolutely nothing but the opportunity for US servicemembers to die for the israeli scum.

As an athiest/agnostic I could give a flying burning rats butt about Isreal. Their the cause of all the problems in the Middle East. If we didn't have to play big brother to them I doubt we'd be in as big a mess as we are already in. Sometimes I wonder who has more power over our govt us or the Isreali's.

It seems that Israel wishes to continue with the construction of settlements and thumb its nose at the West, and the United States; and turn around and wonder why relations are strained. Israel wants it both ways.

But the United States will never take a hard line, diminish or better yet discontinue aid to its cherished ally; no matter who is in office.

Until the U.S. stands up to Israel, no one else will either – no matter how much their actions are continuously condemned within the international community.

We must maintain and rebuild our relationship with Israel but not at the expense of our troops which could be in harms way due to Israel's relationship with the Palestine people. Israel is making a far more danger zone for our troops but not at their expense.

We should continue to help the only continously democratic country in the Middle East. They have listened to what we have requested many times. In the first gulf war, they didn't fire back at Iraq when there were Scudd missile fired into Israel. They haven't bombed Iran's nuclear weapons program. In a country surrounded by enemies that constantly harrass it, Israel shows increadible restraint. To those that say otherwise, look at how well minorities are treated in Arab countries.
