Update: Crist leaves door open to independent bid

Gov. Crist said Monday that he is getting advice about running for Senate as an independent.
Gov. Crist said Monday that he is getting advice about running for Senate as an independent.

(CNN) – Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is appearing increasingly open to the possibility of dropping out of Florida's Republican senatorial primary.

Although Crist has previously said he intends to run as a Republican, he struck a different note in a Monday television interview.

Asked whether he was considering an independent bid, Crist opened the door to the idea.

"I'm getting a lot of advice in that direction," Crist said in an interview with WFTS. "And so, I'm a listener. I'm certainly listening to it."

Earlier in the day, a top Republican campaign official predicted that Crist would not run in the GOP primary.

Hey, even though I live in Texas, I'd be happy to cast my vote for the independent Gov. Crist! Florida has pretty relaxed election laws and nobody really counts those votes anyway. We could ask the five Republican Party hacks on the Supreme Court to decide which candidate should hold office.

Gov. Crist Should run as an independent! Here's another case where the party left a moderate for a right wing nut. He wasn't republican enough because he did the right things for the people in his state instead of playing party politics. Hey GOP, remember the people? As for Gov. Crist, welcome back from the dark side.

So in NOvember, just vote NO for the party of NO and lets make this country great again.

    Let the people choose Crist.....

Don't let the GOP decide for us..... elections are for our voices to be heard not for officials to be intimidated out of running for office!

Why would ANYONE want to be a Republican. They lie everytime they open their mouths. (So much for the values thing) They incite hatered and play on the ignorance of people for their own selfish gain. (So much for the religious thing) They are total hypocrits acting like they are protecting the people. (As long as you're rich or on Wall Street)

Hopefully, people will start geting tired of being lied to(death panels, more baiilouts, and anything else said by Sarah Palin or Michell Backman) to and will reject this terrible party. It's time for them all to go!!

Excellent move, Charlie! Now, maybe Colin Powell will come out and support you. Republicans did him wrong, too.

Governor Crist – I am a lifelong republican – I will support you if you run as as independent – I am tired of voting for fascist Cubans who do nothing for us (retired, white) – after they are elected...

If one wants to be in any political party, then back the party line. Crist spent too much time kissing up to Obama.

Gov. Crist would be a fool not to run as an Independent, what can he loose... the support of the maniacs in the Tea Party who have been on Rubios corner from day one and the support of the GOP (Goldman-sachs Owned Party)? I say thats a good thing... Run Charlie Run as an Independent

RUN AWAY! Run as fast as you can! Everyone needs to make a break from the Relics' if they intend to get ANYWHERE come November! The Relic' party is going downhill and FAST due to negligence on behalf of the so called "leaders". Americans are tired of all the fear factoring and lies, deceit and pandering. It would be best to RUN AWAY before the ship sinks and your reputation is tarnished along with the rest of the sinking crew. NOBODY will be smart enough to stick with em'. More and more Americans are becoming educated and the ignorant ones are going to be "left" out. America is moving FORWARD full steam ahead! Beau Colby

If he is a true politician, he will make trouble for the republicans by either running as a independent or endorsing the democratic candidate. I say make trouble!

Governor Christ is not supported by his own party. The GOP is mad because he took stimulus money. Perhaps he should have let Florida and her citizens do without. After all no one is supposed to support any initiative put forward by Pres. Obama.

I support his decisions and I believe that those who turn away from Gov. Christ are not looking at his accomplishments as governor.

The GOP has proven that they are whiny and cranky just like any toddler.

There is no room for moderates like Crist in the GOP. They have been taken over by extremists. Everyone but the extremists and the super rich should dump the do nothing republican party. They are useless dinosaurs corrupt to the core.

With the GOP shifting further to the right thanks to the tea-party, moderate conservatives lie Crist are forced out, along with the like-minded voters. As a Democrat I would like to personally thank all you tea-partiers for securing the success of the Democrats...
