White House slams latest 'birther' move

White House aides are scoffing at a move in the Arizona legislature to force President Obama to show his birth certificate to get on the state's ballot in 2012 for his likely re-election battle.

(CNN) - White House aides are scoffing at a move in the Arizona legislature to force President Obama to show his birth certificate to get on the state's ballot in 2012 for his likely re-election battle.

"This is a question that has been answered exhaustively," White House spokesman Bill Burton told CNN. "I can't imagine Arizona voters think their tax dollars are well served by a legislature that is less focused on their lives than in fringe right-wing radio conspiracy theories."

The Arizona House voted Monday by a 31-22 margin to require all presidential candidates to prove they were born in the United States in order to meet the constitutional requirement. The measure still has to be considered by the Arizona state Senate before it can become law.

When the issue first popped up during the 2008 presidential election, the Obama campaign released the then-senator's birth certificate showing that he was born in Hawaii. In December 2008, after Obama was elected, the U.S. Supreme Court turned down an emergency appeal from a New Jersey man claiming Obama was ineligible to serve as president.

Hasn't Obama shown his birth certificate numerous times already?? I think it's even posted on the web somewhere. I really don't know what more these people want or if anything will really convince them.

This really is utterly ridiculous. Grow up people.

Simply void all the Arizona votes so that they do not count. That will fix each and every one of you stupid idiots from that state. John McCain is not a hero, he was a prisoner who did not fight our enemy in any way shape or form. His sorry you know what was rotting in a cell. Some hero.

This is very ironic given that John McCain wasn't born in the USA. He was born in the Panama Canal Zone. That is also a verified matter of record.
He probably played with Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro as a kid.
I never saw the document that says Arizona is a legal state. Why don't we just drop them from our country?

in all this nonsense, did we actually see a birth certificate? if not why not? if yes, why argue?

would it not be easier for the white house to have a birth certifcate web page?

Belittle a states perogatives, if it doesn't suit your political interests. I would have expected nothing less(or more) form Mr. B. Hussein Obamas administration.

Grandstanding at its finest. I am convinced that President Obama's race has a lot to do with the dissatisfaction of many people.

Show it and get it over already! It is starting to make me have doubts now. If I was asked for this I would produce it immediately and be done with it. Produce it already...

This is definitely geared towards President Obama because I have never heard of this non-sense before. This is just another attempt to try and deligitamize Barack Obama's presidency. Oh wait this has nothing to do with race because we in America are in a post racial era, yeah right, some things never change, sad, but true!

Where is the outrage from John McCain that the Arizona legislature would waste so much of the taxpayers money?

John Mccain was not born in the US. But I guess the lunatic fringe does not care about that because he is old and WHITE! People spend the tax payers money creating jobs instead of being Idiots!

Obama loves this, if he didn't he could easily close the case by producing the official documents and not just something on the internet that leaves doubt. He feels like this is a great political tool because it can be presented as racist if someone doubts the citizenship of our African American president, and that's in the Dem playbook! I can produce my official birth certificate almost immediately, and I have been required to in the past.

This is just another ploy to oust the President. This is lunacy! If the country stands by and let this ignorant bill stand, then we can say hello
to Palin/Beck, Rush, Hannity and the rest of these simpletons for years to come. These are the same folks who are still mad about Obama winning the Presidency. Imagine what other countries think of us. We are welcoming the terrorist into our country, we are appearing so dumb and ignorant. Everyone has the right to disagree, but this is terrible for the United States.

  17. BS President Misleading Americans

If Obama showing his Birth Certificate to prove he is an American Citizen wasn't such a problem for him then I would believe him. Since he refuses to show it and the Democrats always push another issue when asked about it, I am beginning to believe he isn't a citizen of the US.

Democrats need to stop changing the subject when asked about it. Answer the question, show the proof!!!!!!!

Arizona, the state that would not recognize MLK day until it was costing money in tourist revenue, the state that did not recognize Medicare for it's citizens, now we have a racial profile bill sitting on the governors desk and just passed a bill to allow any loony to carry a concealed weapon. Rational people will not want to visit or live her. This state is getting a bad reputation and it is deserved. Oh, did I forget and we are last in education.
