Arizona governor signs immigration bill

PHOENIX, Arizona (CNN) - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed a state bill Friday that requires police to determine whether a person is in the United States legally, which critics say will foster racial profiling and discrimination but supporters say will crack down on illegal immigration.

The Republican governor also issued an executive order that would require additional training for local officers on how to implement the law without engaging in racial profiling.

"This training will include what does and does not constitute reasonable suspicion that a person is not legally present in the United States," Brewer said after signing the bill.

Previously, officers could check someone's immigration status only if that person was suspected in another crime.

This law is very easy to undo. All ligal and illigal immigrants just stay away from all convienence stores, fast food places, fill your cars with gas for a week, do NOT cut lawns or do yard work, stay away fro the grocery stores, and believe me the Governor will do something about this new silly immigration law. We are all immigrants remember.....

Will Arizona now be issuing pamphets on HOW NOT TO LOOK HISPANIC as well?

Look, I am all for a crack down on illegal immigration, but I wonder how Arizona can think this is going to solve the problem? From my standpoint, this is only going to create a cesspool of civil rights lawsuits which in the end will only make matters worse.

I am glad that I do not live in Arizona and have dark skin and dark eyes.Racism thrives in America. My daughter teaches in Phoenix. She teaches Hispanic children and has said that their parents are good and decent people, who want their children to have a good education. She is moving to Minneapolis and I am glad. I do not want any member of my family to be associated with backward thinking racists. Shame on you. You have brought the state of Arizona back to the stone ages.

This law is unconstitutional and it goes after the wrong people. The criminals are the AZ RESIDENTS that hire illegal immigrants as gardeners, nannies, construction workers, restaurant workers etc. "

Actually, it does. The question will be how it is enforced.

Good, she just got my next vote.
We need to get these illegal people out and stop the bleeding of America from the inside out.
I carry my ID around with me at all times why shouldn't they.
The police need help against the gangs that have taken over.
The Fed will not do anything, and unless you live here and have see and experienced the crime and chaos brought into this country by the illegals you really don't know what you are talking about.
I fully support this new law and the Governor. It just maybe 10 years to late.

It is a sad day in the USA when the best leadership this country has to offer on one of the most difficult issues of the time is to side with and offer loyalty to illegal aliens as opposed to the loyal US citizens who have suffered at the hands of those same illegals and from the neglect of that same US leadership who best contribution seems to be denigration of local efforts, while avoiding it's own responsibilities to the citizens of Arizona. It is even more sad when fellow citizens of this country who are not exposed to the crime and pestillence brought to this state by these illegal aliens seek to pontificate from an abundance of ignorance and show more compassion to non citizens than to their fellow Americans. Step up solve the problem or sit down and shut up

I've read all the complaints about this. Let me ask you these questions. If someone jumps a security fence at an airport should they be stopped? If someone walks through your property, do you have the right to ask them what they are doing? Why are there fences around some school yards? If someone crosses any of these borders it could be considered a criminal offense. Yes even the school one. Of course, questions would have to asked. How is this any different than what AZ is doing? They are asking questions about the validity of the person to be where they currently are.

The financial cost is going to be enormous both relating to enforcement and extradition. Also politically, this will reinforce the perception that the GOP (both at a state and federal level) is the party of white people. The GOP will lose even more minority voters.

Also the US Chamber and other industry reps will lesson the support for the GOP due to lack of cheap labour. What will a tourist have to carry with them to avoid extradition?? What about the many undocumented children in public schools. Want a free trip back home, go to Arizona.

Do you people know the difference between legal and illegal?Let them go to the back of the line and wait their turn just like all the other legal immigrants that have come to this great country have. There are no other countries in the world that don't protect their borders like the U.S. does. And as far as Latino's voting only for Dems, they will use you just like they have done with blacks.

This just confirms that America is still a racist country and it will never end! This bill only targets brown skinned (Latinos & Latinas)! America only wants these people in "THEIR" country to clean & cook for them then throw them out with the trash! What a slap in the face!!!! I'm very ashamed of the elected officals that sign these bogus laws into an actual law.

don't worry about lawsuits illegal aliens have no civil rights this is not Mexico they broke our laws by coming here without a proper invitation. Mr. President you had better get your act together this issue of illegal immigration will cost you your job if you continue to speak affirmatively on behalf of non-law abiding law breakers. I don't care about your politics your have an obligation to the American citizens you had better get a grip and think this thing through no matter who the president we are sick of the double standards shown against citizens and illegal aliens. its time to MAN UP ! and do the right thing enforce our laws to the max you don't have a problem allowing racial profiling against black folk prove you can govern on the side of the law, especially when you know the magnitude of destruction that is caused by the millions of illegal aliens. we are watching..

If AZ needs to have such an unreasonable, over-the-top law, why couldn't it be one that presumes all AZ businessmen to be law breakers until they can prove they have not hired any illegal immigrants?

This governor has guts! I can tell by the above posts that those people have NEVER been a victim of crime by illegals. Victims have ZERO recourse! Illegals have no money to go after. The Feds refuse to do their job, and this Gov. has to protect her LEGAL citizens. Hope our Gov. does the same thing. BTW....what does an illegal look like? A human being that can't prduce a green card or proof they are here legally. Send them back home and allow them to apply and wait in line like the rest of us. No cuts!
