Washington (CNN) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is heading to Iowa next month to raise money for the Republican Party of Iowa, a GOP source in the state told CNN Friday.

Gingrich will visit Cedar Rapids on May 26 as a "special guest" at a fundraising luncheon hosted by Iowa GOP chairman Matt Strawn and House Republican Leader Kraig Paulsen.

Republicans who give $500 to the state party will also be given the chance to sit down with the potential 2012 presidential candidate before lunch for a private "Issues and Ideas Roundtable," according to a copy the invitation obtained by CNN. Donors who chip in $1,000 will also nab an autographed copy of Gingrich's latest book.

Later that day, Gingrich is also slated to headline a fundraising dinner for the Polk County GOP in Des Moines.

His effort to help the party in the first-in-the-nation caucus state is the latest sign that Gingrich is taking the steps necessary to prepare for a presidential run. The former House Speaker has said he is considering a White House bid and will make a final decision about his political future in early 2011.

Take your contract and shove it Newt. You failed once. What makes you think you can jump back into politics as if everyone forgot about your scandal?

I don't know if Newt will be allowed to lunch in Iowa or not. We normally keep our pigs on the farm in Iowa.

Oh I'm quite sure he'll be a real hit drawing money from the lemmings that still buy his lies and propaganda. Newt still plays well to old white people and that's his target.

Is it just me or do Newtered and Cheneybot perfectly resemble the muppets Statler and Waldorf, sitting in their balcony, leveling cranky retrogressive self-righteous ideological criticism from on high at all the people who are actually doing work and trying to run the show?

Newtered is good at one thing and one thing only: misguided, society crippling divisiveness. It's his hallmark.

Gingrich did everything possible to de- legitimize the Clinton presidency. I imagine his Issues and Ideas Roundtable will be more of the same against Obama.

Beyond that, Gingrich doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of ever becoming the next president.

Newt and Cheney - the new Statler and Waldorf.

You know, if they ever do a humanized version of The Muppet Show, you've just cast the two curmudgeons in the balcony who boo and hiss and contribute nothing to the show. 🙂

Sorry Newtie, you'll never be president. Maybe, if you hadn't been banging that choir girl in the church that you attended with you wife, you might still have had a chance – but not now, and not ever....

Only 500 bucks to ask Newt questions? Gee, I could ask him how, as a born again Christian, he could have left his first wife for his soon-to-be second wife, while wife number one was recovering from cancer surgery. Or, how he could have left his second wife for his THIRD wife, having had an affair with #3 while still married to #2, and at the same time, and with a straight face, calling for Clinton's impeachment for the Monica Lewinski affair...

Or maybe I could just ask him what kind of a psychopath speaks out of both sides of his face without flinching.

One thing we all know from newt's past – he knows how to get his hands on money, even if it violates law and ethics rules in the gettin'

Talk about appropriate names. He is a small brained slimy throwback to another age that dwells in the slime and muck under rocks.

Newt reminds me of Nixon who ran or office so many times until when he got there he was so full of himself he blew it. $500 a plate, that ought to shut out the tea partiers who can't afford a plane ticket let alone the costs, remember they only travel in RV's/cars and they bring their own dinners.

I am a good Liberal who plans to vote for Obama in 2012.

I give my wholehearted endorsement to a Gingrich-Palin ticket for the GOP and I pray every night for a just God to make it come true.

Newt who ? This guy is not only old news, he is failed news. His so called contract with America is one of the worst political disasters ever.
Amazing how the losers just can't accept the loss and move on, they have to keep fighting losing battle.

He will have lots of takers. I know I did as with most Americans very well financially when he was Speaker. The balance between he and Clinton was great for the country.
Even with a smart speaker Obama couldn't run a Dairy Queen.

When Newt comes to town for the fund raiser, make him keep his hands in his pockets and check real close to see how much the Republican Party spends on office supplies
