Washington (CNN) – At a Rose Garden ceremony swearing in 24 immigrant members of the U.S. military as citizens, President Obama made his first direct comments on Arizona's controversial immigration bill.
Obama said, "Our failure to act responsible at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others. That includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona which threaten to undermined basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe."
The bill would make it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally and allow police to stop anyone they suspected of being in the country illegally to demand they produce an alien registration document, a driver's license or other documents proving their legal status.
The president said he has instructed his administration "to closely monitor the situation and examine the civil rights and other implications of this legislation."
"But if we continue to fail to act at the federal level," he said, "we will continue to see misguided efforts opening up around the country."
its about the about clour people. let me ask all you immigrant haters, all you racists on the right one question. if any white person and a dark skin person walks the road who do you think they will stop???? common racists , answer. i will answer, the DARK SKIN HUMAN BEING.
I agree with Obama. Keep the border wide open, give the invaders citizenship and a ballot, and let them install Obama as the head of the Caliphate in North America.
What is it with Obama ? Everything he does is directed at destroying us.
This bill is terribly mis guided and that the Gov should veto and send it back to the drawing board. These measures are extreme and only feed on hate and even possible law suites. Our AZ tax dollars should be spent better on other things then filth bills like this and the Birther bill. Give me a break. Can we get beyond the hate?
As the wife of a very dark-skinned AMERICAN of Mexican descent, I too, will not spend one more dime in that state.
Simple facts are-This administration and the 2 prior all have failed to enforce very clear and straightforward laws and such FAILURES have negative effects on a border state. The border state is threatened by foreign interests. Why shouldn't they have the right to defend themselves. The administration and this congress are a bunch of cowards when it comes to this issue; they will not address it. Same for the previous ones. This is not a partisan matter. Staes have rights and the Federal government is either with Arizona or against it...and the lack of attention has sent a clear message that they are against Arizona. So I hope all states have the nerve to take a stand against foreign threats when this Federal government does nothing.
Henry Miller... EVERYBODY (including you) sees and feels everything through his/her own perspective. Of course some are considered bad and/or wrong and/or delusional by others.
Most of the time those who judges others according to their own perception are simply 'righteous-than-thou' fools.
So... do you have anything relevant and non-partisan to back up your claim that the POTUS should be comitted?
