Sources: Votes lacking for immigration push

Immigration reform is unlikely to have enough votes to pass, according to sources.
Immigration reform is unlikely to have enough votes to pass, according to sources.

Washington (CNN) - The push for immigration reform may be on the front burner for congressional Democrats, but sources say that ultimately, they believe the issue is unlikely to have enough votes to pass.

Democrats say the goal is to try to take it up in the Senate before discussing the Supreme Court nomination this summer and spend the rest of the session before the midterm election on the politically potent issue of jobs.

One big reason for the immigration reform push, sources say, is that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is in a brutal battle to win re-election in Nevada, where a quarter of the population is Hispanic and he has promised to try.

How many of you REALLY, REALLY believe that if any Canadians go to Arizonia to visit The Grand Canyon, they will be required to show proper identification?

    HEY: Michael Armstrong:

It is NOT the illegals that overwhelm our Emergency Rooms. It is the uninsured Americans! Do your homework, Dude.

If the GOP wanted to actually do their job in Washington, then the DEMS would find a real coalition to address these issues. But the GOP, and conservadems(blue dogs) want to kiss up to the red state rage, and save their jobs, over common sense solutions for America.

I'm a registered card carrying member of the GOP, who will not vote repub in 2010, or 2012 (I kind of like the smarts and civilty of Obama).

Our Congress is totally disfunctional so it is no surprise that immigration reform will not be considered during this term.
Much greater reform is needed. A constitutional convention should be held and our entire system of government should be changed. Throw out our present constitution. The courts don't pay any attention to it anyway. Adopt a new constitution more in line with the 21st Century needs of Americans. One good step would be to change the legislative portion of our government. Perhaps a Congress with 100 members instead of 535. One in which members would serve five year terms but subject to recall at any time. Make our government one of merit instead of what we have now.[totally corrupt and unable to govern]

Again the government gets it wrong on how to deal with the issue. There has to be SOMEONE in Arizona's legislature who took Economics 101 at the local community college and realizes: 1) The illegal alien industry is one rooted in economics; and 2) that you don't ruin an industry by limiting supply (arresting and jailing the few illegal aliens we catch) – you'll just end up artificially driving up demand, thereby making illegal aliens even MORE desirable. You ruin an industry by either flooding the market so much that the current supply is worthless (stupid and self-defeating if we're talking about illegal aliens) or destroying the demand (a-ha!).

We can destroy the demand for illegals by aggressively and severely prosecuting those who employ illegals, and by legalizing and regulating marijuana. Those two industries alone account for so much of the demand for illegals that if you took them out, illegal labor would be worthless and they would have little to no reason to cross the border.

America gets that warm and fuzzy feeling when we get to label a whole group of people "bad guys" and then declare a "War on _____," but in this case the kingpins of the illegal alien cartels are good ol' boys who hire illegal manual laborers and black market marijuana runners. That's the group we should be declaring war against. Cut off the head, and the rest of the creature will die.

As for the sorry excuse of a law that Arizona is going to force onto its population (both the American citizens and the immigrants, legal or not), I have a question:
I read in the papers that this law allows people to sue the police force if they (the law enforcers) are not enforcing THIS law as they should (according to the person or persons that will be elegible to sue them).
Or in other words, follow this law or you will pay for it!
BUT... aren't all police forces bound by oath and law to ensure that all the laws are followed? So why did this (another) ridiculous article/provision of the law stands for?
    Blackmail the police?

What you don't want to have another give away program for the people in this country that come in the back door.

Send them home and make them come in the front door like everyone before them.

Why do we always seem to make it so easy no other country does and we shouldn't either.

English, one flag, and one country that's it. If people can't obey our laws, write, speak English, then stay home until you can.

Mr, Reed, don't you think this may be too little too late. I hope my Mexican friends and others immigrants are able to see through Senile Reeds hypocrisy, smoke and mirrors. Ask yourself: When did Senile Reed start caring about immigration?

"Inmigrantes", don't be fooled by this lying and disrespectful elected official.

Your situation is not only partly his fault, but also the fault of the NObama administration. Because he has been in campaign mode since sworn into office, the NObama's administration has not had the time or the respect and attention that the immigration issue must have.

Stand tall, and most of all, stand your ground!

    This administration has no shame!

Amnesty by any other name would still lack the votes and contradict the collective will of The People. We cannot understand why years of lax immigration enforcement and extensive economic exploitation of criminal aliens should confer any special benefits on them. They should be sent back home to wait in line like legal immigrants did. What's so un-American about that?

Why don't the dems get it. America doesn't mind immigrants – it minds ILLEGAL immigrants. Those people who come across the border without permission knowing that it's wrong but that expect to be given all the rights and benefits of citizens.

While I do not fully agree with the recent law passed in Arizona concerning illegal immigration, we have to do something. This country is being actually peacefully invaded and the governments of both the United States and Mexico are doing absolutely nothing.
The do nothing attitudes by both governments have nothing to do with these people coming across for a better life, it really as all about big business and cheap labor.
Until the U. S. comes hard down on business' that make profits on this cheap labor and put the military on the border, the immigration (illegal) is not going to stop.
Maybe the way the law is written comes across as racial profiling, but hey, we have to start somewhere.

hmmmmmmmmm All American citizens should cross the border into Mexico and let the Mexicans and drug dealers have the US and all it's land. If they want it that bad they can have it. Once they are all here then we can get Dick "DARTH VADER" Cheney from some undisclosed location around Washington, DC to push the little red button and incinerate this country. In a few thousand years, after the radiation has died down, people can come back and re-establish another new government and declare independence from Mexico and start the vicious killing cycle all over again.

As for me, I will be kicked back in my reclyner with my sattelite and Big Screen TV watching it all from the moon as the most destructive species ever to evolve destroys itself all over again.

Reading some of thes comments regarding the recent law passed in Arizona, already I'm seeing you Obama blamers coming out in droves.
This has nothing to do with President Obama. It is the entire Congress of the United States that has to step up and put a stop to this invasion. The above article itself says there are not enough votes to get an immigration bill passed. That in and of itself is a joke. We already have laws in place to put a stop to this but they are not being enforced.
Let's focus on the problem as a nation together and quit blaming President Obama for everything you feel is wrong with our country.
Remember, he inherited 8 years of complete screw-up.

It is said that Democrats must sell Health Reform. They must sell Immigration Reform and they must sell Banking Reform. Al of this is true and Democrats know it. The problem is that Democrats don't know how to sell.

Have you ever noticed that 9 out of 10 crooks and dealers of various types are Republicans. They know how to sell. They can rob you at gun point, take your wallet and then make you such a good deal on buying it back that you would do it. Democrats, on the other hand could not sell bags of dope in a 2 for the price of one deal without screwing it up and screwing up the money.

That is why Democrats cannot sell their agenda. They can't sell.

Oops didn't finish my post. I hope that President Obama gets a chance to put into policy REAL immigration reform and not the racists policies that Arizona put into place. Hmm, I wonder where America would be if the Native Americans had been more diligent in demanding immigration limits. Oh yeah, America would have been better off.

Crime is committed when you hire an illegal.
Go after the big corporation and farmers who hire this people,
bottom line for rich people is how much money to be made with hiring an illegal person for whom they don't have to pay any benefit or minimum wage.

Oh I see how it is Obama will gladly fight for people who illegally entered the country yet won't fight for the right of the citizens who live here legally? So never mind the immgrants that legally came here and did everything the correct way. That's a slap in their face! Hmm let's see Obama also would rather grant rights to those who break the law by illegally entering the country yet won't grant gay marriage or partnership for people who are US citizens. Just wait their will be more garbage that will come out of DC just wait. Can't wait for Nov soon enough.

The administration's push for reform will include AMNESTY, which becomes automatic votes for the party in power. Just as LBJ did with the Great Society, it locks in generations of loyal voters.
