Levin swears repeatedly at Goldman hearing

(CNN) – Michigan Sen. Carl Levin, Democratic chairman of the Senate subcommittee on Permanent Investigations, did not censor himself Tuesday as he repeatedly quoted from an e-mail in which a Goldman Sach's executive referred to a mortgage deal as "shi**y."

Thomas Montag, Goldman's former head of sales and trading, described a series of mortgage-backed investments the investment bank was selling to clients as "one shi**y deal" in the email to colleagues.

Levin repeatedly quoted the curse word - close to a dozen times - when questioning Daniel Sparks, former head of Goldman's mortgage department, who allegedly urged his group to make the deals. Levin's line of questioning was carried live by CNBC.

The committee is examining Goldman's role in the financial crisis last year and allegations it sold mortgage-backed securities to clients that the firm later bet against.

    they should fine him.....

he know's it's live and he refuses to substitute another word?! honestly, senator.... find another word.... I think America can get the jist of the sentiment of these emails without you making me explain to my children that the leaders of the United States Congress don't normally use this word......

raise your children how you want to raise your children..... but don't tell me how to raise mine....

  2. CNN is the devil

I think what is obscene is what major corporations, lobbies – and their future employees, our elected representatives – have done to this country and its economy in the last 10 years.

Levin is completely justified in what he said. CNN should pay attention to the substance of the hearing, but instead we hear the trashy gossip. It's planned on their part – anything to keep the voting public fat and in the dark.

Thanks Ben – right on. And to Jon: regulating greed and stupidity is not attacking the free market – it's helping it. Everyone needs to know where the net is.

Just an observation. But I am seeing more grandstanding, soapboxing, and lecturing than anything. I thought this was supposed to be questions for Goldman Sachs not a place to gain political points. I hate politicians, they all need to go.

The Senator was not swearing. He was quoting these arrogant, self-involved, duplicitous thieves. The healine should have read "Wall Street exec profane laced memo denouncing investments revealed."

Actually, I wish Senator Levin was swearing at this gang. What this memeo reveals is what a low regard the crew had for the investors.

    Is this really news, CNN?

A Senator quotes the trashy language those accused of fraud use to describe their own dealings, and you're offended by hearing the facts?

With Cheney ever so proud of his f bombs...why shouldn't Carl get in on the action? At least he's leveling profanity where profanity is due.

Call the FCC to report the curseing on national tv. Just because he is a senator, he thinks the fcc rules don't apply to him.

Who cares if he swore? We are adults and in my view there is no such thing as "bad" words. George Carlin already proved it.

worriedmom, it's no secret you hate President Obama and the dems, and salivate at the thought of sticking it to them. That being said, how much of the current economic crisis can be blamed on Fannie/Freddie?

This might come as a shock to you and you'll deny it and probably even name-call, but the fact is that the rethugliban held the majority in the house/senate while the Fannie/Freddie mess was playing out.

While Barney Frank and Chris Dodd may have sat on finance committees during those years, they weren't in charge. They sponsored legislation along with other members of their committees, both dem & rethug, and the rethugliban majority added in all sorts of goodies until the orignial legislation was unrecognizable.

Granted, the dems could have filibustered or voted no on the bastardized legislation, but during the eight-year debacle wrought by the previous occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, anytime they did stand up to the rethugliban, they were accused of treason, being anti-American, not supporting the troops, siding with the terrorists who hate us and want to kill us, regardless of how wreckless the rethugliban's demands were, and regardless of whether or not it had anything to do with national security.

We just saw an article on here last week about how Cheney cussed at Kerry using the F-word.

I say - cuss 'em out Carl.
worriedmom – good reason to be concerned: Both Cornyn and McConnell took millions of dollars just two weeks ago to stop finance reform. You've heard the d-ckheads on the right accuse Democrats of it, but you didn't hear that Republicans got millions for their NO VOTE on finance reform. The Republicans are keeping the American people from getting the banksters behind bars.

Jon in Madison, you're an idiot. Everything out of your mouth is "socialism" this and "socialism" that. Grow a pair and stick to the story. You're a pathetic loser to attach something like "socialism" to this story when it doesn't apply. Go back to your rocker old man or better still: Find a fast track to hell – pathetic loser. Carl is fighting for the American people. Me? I'm a US Marine fighting in Bush's wars for trash like you. That's right!! Go on and attack a US soldier who fights for your freedoms and the freedoms of pathetic GOP cronies. I've shed blood this country to prove my patriotism. YOU and your cronies haven't. YOU'RE TRASH!!

Again and again these senators show their ignorance–acting like idiots in their stupid superficial questions–especially that silly McCaskill–those guys are so much smarter and classier than the interrogation panel–why don't those actors go after their own (freddie and fannie)? The Dems are an embarrassing bunch of blowhards....
