Wall Street reform odyssey begins in Senate

Washington (CNNMoney.com) - The Senate began work Thursday on a bill that aims to prevent the next financial crisis.

But don't expect a final vote on a bill anytime soon.

Lawmakers started making opening speeches Thursday, talking in general about the bill. They're not expected to start debating the details of possible changes to the bill until next Tuesday.

The amendment process and debate could take several weeks, since Republicans and some Democrats have deep reservations about parts of the bill and plan to offer changes rewriting it. Republicans have the ability to filibuster amendments, and they can also filibuster the final vote on the bill.

Those who blame liberals and Obama for this meltdown have drunk the GOP coolaid to the max. Any one who has the guts to spend a little time and effort can look up and see that the deregulation of the markets came about around the time of Reagan and has continued as the corporations and wall street lobbied for less regulation. Our reps on both sides of the isles took the top off the cookie jar and we are now paying for it. To put the blame all on one side shows your bias. Your anger would be better spent at the real offenders, Wall street. They wanted deregulation so they could be the greedy a#@holes they are. They are the ones who spent so much money convincing congress to deregulate. There is the true enemy of capitalism. Those who would abuse it for their own gain. Wake up and see the truth for once, and stop putting all the blame and hatred in the wrong place. If you really want to protect your assests then write to your reps and tell them to regulate the h@@l out of wall street and Corporations so this won't happen again and you won't lose your money down their collective gullets.

You are one more uneducated person. I'll be willing to bet my last dollars you don't work any where. Tell the true You hate black people? It has nothing to do with socialist you just hate President Obama just because he is black. If he was white you would be all over him like white on rice.

Write or call your congressional representatives in both houses and tell them to STOP beating around the Bush and do what we elected them to do...the peoples' business in the peoples' interests.

The GOP still has lots of opportunities to block reform so that Wall Street can continue to steal us blind.

Do liberals actually believe that policy disagreement is racism or hatred? Yes racism does exist. It exists in the hearts of SOME republicans, SOME independants and yes, SOME democrats! You guys are SO quick to pull the racist card! Surely it must be torn and tatered by now! The financial point is Obama made a speech a while ago and said "Now is not the time for profits". Really? Profits are a major source of government revenue! Financial reform should include a rethink of hatred towards profit making!
