A federal jury in Tennessee has so far found a 22 year-old man guilty on two of four counts in a case that involved hacking into Sarah Palin's e-mail account.

(CNN) - In their fourth day of deliberations, a federal jury in Tennessee has so far found a 22 year-old man guilty on two of four counts in a case that involved hacking into Sarah Palin's e-mail account nearly two years ago when she was the vice presidential nominee.

The jury has determined David Kernell, 22, is guilty on felony charges of intentionally accessing Palin's e-mail account without authorization and obstructing an FBI investigation, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports.

Meanwhile, the jury acquitted Kernell on a third charge of wire fraud and remains divided over the fourth charge of identity theft.

It's unclear if the district court judge will order the jurors will order the jury to continue their deliberations, according to the News Sentinel.

In a statement on her Facebook page, Palin said she and her family are "thankful that the jury thoroughly and carefully weighed the evidence and issued a just verdict."

"Besides the obvious invasion of privacy and security concerns surrounding this issue, many of us are concerned about the integrity of our country’s political elections. America’s elections depend upon fair competition." she also wrote. "Violating the law, or simply invading someone’s privacy for political gain, has long been repugnant to Americans’ sense of fair play."

The comments that i have read so far is about either your a Dem/rep. I would like to read somthing about the law that was broken. If he broke the law, then put him in jail, and for the ones that he did not do anything wrong, all i can say is if this was your family what would you think then. Would you feel like the Reps., or would you still think like the Dems. You make the choice its your family.

I'm sure that if a GOPer's kid hacked Nancy Pelosi's email more conservatives would be making the hacker into a martyr than the rest of us would believe that this kid is anything but a criminal who deserves punishment. But that's the difference between GOPers and the rest of us.

  4. Liberal tolerence is an oxymoron

If Sarah Palin is an idiot, then why haven't you accomplished a fraction of what she has in her short lifetime? BTW, all fraudulent ethical charges against her have been thrown out; but she was stuck paying
the legal bills to defend herself. This is pure playbook material from Saul Alinsky, Obama's hero. You liberals have had a monoply on civil disobedience, protests, etc.; but when law-abiding/tax-paying citizens
protest against socialist/marxist policies, you cry racism. Well, that dog don't hunt anymore and you've been outed as hypocrits and race-baiters. Too bad ACORN won't be filling out your Census Forms and Voter Registration Cards this election cycle; I can smell a tsunami coming in November. Paybacks are hell and you'll wish you didn't have that chip on your shoulder.

At least you Obamists are consistant. You don't want this guy brought to justice. And 40 years ago you didnt want Obamas political soul mate Bill Ayers brought to justice for bombing the U.S. Capitol.

It is obvios this was a prank by a young adult, with no malicious intent. The fact that this lady pressed charges so vigorously shows alot about her selfish character. Way to ruin a young mans life.... does everything you touch turn to crap?

ib @ 4:14, the haters are not far left. They are part of the astro-turfing "progressive" wing of Obama Nation. I am far left and the hate towards Palin and her family disgust me. Please don't lump the haters in with people like me.

This kid thought he was above the law. Fortunately, the jury decided otherwise. I feel for the kid and his family, but he broke the law and then he lied to the Feds about it. He did this to himself. He is the one to blame, not Palin. I am stunned at the venomous blame-the-victim sentiments expressed here. Just because you don't like a person does not make the crime against them any less significant.

"You don't want this guy brought to justice. "

Us liberals sure do. The LAST thing this country needs is precedent for someone getting away with something like this...especially in light of the right wing's propensity for throwing privacy rights out the freekin' window the second they get scared enough to poop their pants or whenever they think it might be a convenient campaign tactic (think Nixon).

very few liberal postings have any sort of logic to them. they have pre determined that sarah is on the wrong side of any issue regardless of scope. using juvenile humor and crude remarks only shows how blinded they are by hatred. i luv my liberal frnds, they at least use reason, as do i, when we disagree. the right is not blameless either in reducing todays rhetoric to playground taunts and threats, however this ticker is overwhelmingly viewed by more libs than consvtvs. now i will b attacked with the same old boring lines we are all used to reading on these comment boards. keep hating fools, and serving ur masters while they play u against each other, make a ton of cash, and solve as little as possible. dems and repubs are 1 beast, not 2. it just knows how to control the masses, every1 needs an enemy to fight. obama and palin are on the same team, and neither lead it.

Do you even know what "astro-turf" means in this context? Nothing could be further from the truth. As for "hating" on Palin, it's not "Palin and her family" that people hate...IT'S HER BEHAVIOR AND THE WORD/LIES/IDEOLOGICAL MESS THAT COMES OUT OF HER MOUTH. Learn to differentiate.

Way to go bimbo! Something else to remember you by or should I say bye (wish never to hear from you ever again).
@ spouting horn . . . . my dog is smarter than the quitter. She is a retarded sociopath low self esteem person.
She is so stupid that a young man was able to figure out her password. Is anybody looking into that same account being used for government business? Of course not. The she devil continues to get away with every law she has broken since she's been a half term governor.
Someday all of this is going to bite you in your skinny white butt and we will laugh all the way to see you in jail or in court where you belong. Of course, if you answer your subpoenas because when it's all about you you don't follow that law either!

It's ironic that the FBI doesn't get involved in e-mail hacking or worse yet, identity theft and fraud when it happens to everyday citizens. When it happens to a high profile ultra conservative like Sarah Palin though, they break their necks to penalize someone. These neo-cons love living under a higher standard then Main Street America.

    Katie @ 5:13, Kernell hasn't been sentenced yet. I doubt he'll get 20 years.

lee @ 5:14, IANAL, but as I understand it, Kernell's biggest mistake was lying to the Feds. The obstruction of justice charge is the one that he will pay the biggest price for.

Off with his head. Clearly a 20 year old kid having some laughs should go to prison till he's 40.

    REALLY?

Give him a medal. He exposed her for being the IDIOT she is conducting government business on a yahoo account.

There's no need for the young man to serve prison time. But what he did was wrong and a suitable punishment should be meted out. The politics of his victim – no matter how absolutely horrible she may be – shouldnt make his actions more or less acceptable. C'mon, people, we're in this together.

I agree with Mr. Delson – what could her emails possibly say? That she shot a wolf from a helicopter? That she, or one of her daughters, is pregnant AGAIN!? That Obama's "death panels" are going to get her baibee? Or was that a Dingo? Can anyone stomach anything the WILD ALASKAN DINGBAT say?

How come everyone thinks this twenty-plus year old is a "kid". He can drink, vote, serve his country....and he should be treated as exactly what he is. This was not a prank, considering his parent's status in the Democratic party. We are a country of laws, which bind us together as a union and a people, and those laws apply to everyone. equally. Don't be angry over the findings of a jury of his peers..they heard all the evidence – you moron's didn't. Guilty is guilty and the punishment will fit the crime.

I wondered where all you spineless liberals are hanging out now your President snowed you over. Sarah and her family are good people who just tell the Truth unlike all the media you liberals follow. If you followed Fox also you would be on top of the Truth and be able to make your own decisions about good people without being brainwashed by this short lived Dem Administration power hungry ride. Voting will show you the Truth. Stay Tuned

I don't understand all the hupla on hacking into this woman's email account. If you consider that she is a mindless Idiot, there can not be but so much of interest in her email accounts. The most one would find would be a "GOTCHA", a "YOU BETCHA", "ONE WINK", and a "DRILL BABY DRILL".

No malicious intent? He posted the cellphone numbers of the Palin family online. They received death threats. Put yourself in the position of receiving a death threat and tell me the hacker wasn't malicious. As for obstruction of justice he lied to the FBI he tried to erase the evidence off his hard drive.

If this was Obama who had his email hacked and his wife and daughters received death threats on their cellphones could you say it was a prank?

Americans wonder why our Country is going broke, it's because tax payer dollars go to paying for pursuing guys like this rather than focusing on criminals of a violent nature. I mean sure this guy deserves maybe a fine and community service and maybe something like 90 days in jail but not 20 years or anything close. I mean calculate the total cost to the taxpayer when his sentence is done being served and the cost involved in getting this conviction.
