Schwarzenegger betting on Romney in 2012

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno Thursday.

(CNN) - The race for the Republican presidential nomination is a ways off, but that isn't stopping California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger from predicting who will carry the party's banner in November 2012.

Appearing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday, Schwarzenegger said he's betting on former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney "by a hair."

But Schwarzenegger, who endorsed Sen. John McCain over Romney and Mike Huckabee in the 2008 presidential race, says he himself would run if the Constitution allowed foreign-born citizens to be president.

"Without any doubt. There's no two ways about that," he said when asked if he wants to mount a presidential bid of his own.

The California governor also slammed the controversial Arizona immigration law that in part permits law enforcement officials to interrogate individuals who they suspect are in the country illegally.

"This is a mess," he said. "As governor here, I would never do that in California. Pass a law like that - no way."

Schwarzenegger - who will leave the governor's office in January - also took aim at Congress for so far failing to pass an immigration reform package.

"The last six years since I've been in office, they've been talking about it," he said. "And every single time, they say, 'Well, this is election year. We can't get it done.' Well, hello. I mean, every two years is election year … get it done."

law enforcement has a duty to appropriately question any person who they suspect has broken a law. I think Arnold is focusing on Mexican persons. I am interested in all illegals. Especially the terrorist type. So question away coppers. Real Americans won't mind the questions.

Are you kidding me? This man has taken his state to ruin and you ask his opinion? How stupid! No one wanted to tackle many issues at hand because of the risks involved. Now that President Obama is in office, all of these issues are of dire importance. They want to ruin him, but he is super smart and not afaid of any issue. He will deal with whatever needs to be dealt with. We are praying for him and supporting his efforts. This law is a total and complete disgrace. I wait for the day it is defeated in the courts.

Look what you did to California, Schwarzenegger.

Picking a Repug presidential nomination for 2012 makes as much sense as picking the Kentucky Derby winnner for 2012.

Of the current runners (Repugs, not horses), the only valid choice is 'none of the above'. But I'm sure they will scrape something off their shoes for Right-Wing AmeriKa to vote for.

You can have one of our senators from GA; they know the party line pretty good.

I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong with giving law enforcement the capability to enforce the law. To be honest, I believe immigration is good for our country and I welcome people who want to come here and do well, but if we are going to have laws, then let's enforce them.

Romney? the guy who wants to continue the bush tax cuts for the wealthy like himself? – WON'T BE VOTING FOR THAT IDIOT! I'm betting on that moron PALIN to win (she's the best looking republican and has no brains) easy win for OBAMA again.

Obama must be licking his Chops right now. No one on the current GOP radar can beat Obama in an election. None of them. I'm just stating facts. You can Google polls for Palin, Romney and none of them would be Obama. The GOP has a lot of work to do.

When Arnold leaves office, he will have succeeded in leaving the state in financial ruin.

Schwarzenegger should keep his BIG MOUTH COLSE, as the entire world knows what kind of leader he is. Run the state of California to the ground and want to talk about the Presidency? dude please sit down or go do some push ups, because that's what you are good at! politics should not be on your agenda.

Yeah, Grey-out Davis was worse, but Arnold has ruined California. We all can't wait until he's gone. Unfortunately, if Meg Whitman takes his place, she might be just as bad!

Yeah, right! Based on the outstanding job he's done in California? Years of steroids have finally taken over his brain. On the other hand, he's used to running a bankrupt organization.
