Obama will visit Gulf region

Venice, Louisiana (CNN) - President Obama will visit the oil spill area along the Gulf Coast Sunday, a White House official said Saturday as residents braced for the oil slick creeping toward the shore.

Obama is visiting because of the national significance and potential magnitude of the environmental damage, senior administration officials said.

Federal officials, meanwhile, urged BP to beef up its response as thousands of barrels of oil creep into the Gulf of Mexico.

"We'll continue to urge BP to leverage additional assets," Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said Friday. "It is time for BP to supplement their current mobilization as the slick of oil moves toward shore."

More political hot air from ignorant and counter-productive administration officials. If you think for a nanosecond that BP is NOT putting every single resource at work on this problem, then you're smoking some world class obama hooch.

Where has Barry been on this issue during the past nine days...Vera Baker???

You can hear the "ka-ching" at the gas pumps now. Just one thing and it appears to give the oil gougers a "reason" to raise prices. WELCOME to another fun filled summer and your money being pulled from your wallet! Forget Christmas AGAIN this year...Beau Colby

Thank God it is Obama visiting the Gulf Coast at least he will take proper procedures and analize the situation. This is far better then the uneducated Sarah Palin Facebook politician (want to be) making uneducated comments on the situation. Palin has no education background in Engineering or a scientific background, Oceanic background, or any experience in off shore drilling yet her dangerous mind believes she has the extraodinary education needed to make comments and suggestions on this matter. Palin went through five colleges to get a degree in journalism and still can't speak in complete sentences. When the right wing wonders why people are fear of her celebrity, this is the reason. It is very un responsible for her to act as someone who has any experience in this field and we should be thankful Obama will seek the proper advise from experts before making comments and decisions. Just because Palin was a Governor for a year and a half does not give her a seven year University degree needed to properly comment on this disaster. Governors only deal with regulation and not the scientific and physics of this magnitude and it is dangerous for her followers to listen to her uneducated comments.

Why the heck is BIgSis Janet involved in this? It does not involve her Homeland Insecurity Dept., but rather the Interior Dept.!! Leave it to Obama to mis-manage everything he touches, including Vera Baker...

It is interesting (well okay disgusting) to see people like Linbaugh try to score points against against Obama for this tragedy. Will it make sense to review th limited exploration for oil off shore? Sure. There are valid policy points to be made but it is deeply ironic to hear that a remote shut off valve, required from most countries but not US yet, would have lessoned the damage greatly. The ironic part is that the same people railing against Obama now would fight the requirment of such a valve as an un-nesessary government regulation and a socialist attempt to force our friends in big oil to do comply. Just sayin, that's all.

Also because he and his administration are 10 days late in this disaster that (as usual) they underestimated how much was actually spilling.

They have NEVER gotten any "guesstimates" right and the streak continues.

"Great job Janet" will be next, but remember, "Jan", was asked about what type of equipment the gubment could provide that would help and again AS USUAL, she didn't have an answer.

Clueless and gutless is the tagline for this woefully inept administration and you betcha, I miss the dolt Bush.

Poetic justice that Barry was just touting the safety of oil drilling, but that won't be repeated by the liberal lamestream media....

The responsibility is with BP. They need to ramp up and fix this horrendous error. Eleven people dead and the Gulf region about to become an oil slick, damaging wetlands and wildlife. No more drilling. Alt fuels are the answer.

In all due respect to our President. While there it would be wise to grab a bunch of people, and get on your knees and ask for God's mercy. Lead the nation back to God so God can spare our nation.

Did you see the profits that exxon/mobil got in the last quarter? Now is the time for them to back off their price gouging off the american people. 38% profit during these hard times that the american people are going through. I've noticed the price at the pump steadly rise so the big oil companies strangle the working class people.
