Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama said Tuesday that "justice will be done" in the case of the attempted bombing at Times Square, and U.S. officials "will do everything in our power to protect the American people."

The failed bombing is "another sobering reminder of the times in which we live," the president told an audience of business leaders. But the United States "will be vigilant" and "will not cower in fear."

Faisal Shahzad, a 30-year-old Pakistani-American citizen, was arrested "for allegedly driving a car bomb into Times Square," the FBI said in a statement Tuesday.

Shahzad was arrested around 11:45 p.m. ET Monday at JFK International Airport, according to Attorney General Eric Holder, and will appear in a Manhattan federal courtroom after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Get A Grip, you really need to get a grip. it wasn't a "terrorist attack". It was an attempted terrorist attack that was thwarted, and the guy who attempted to carry it out is cooling his heels in jail.

Had the previous occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania still been there, the divice would have detonated, as nobody from homeland security would have been activated to respond, the guy would have escaped to Pakistan, AND your boy would have used the incident as justification for invading Iran. Thank goodness we have composed, thinking people in the WH for a change.

So do republicans think he should be tried in a military tribunal or in civilian court? I can't wait to hear the hypocrasy
    ---------
Was he captured illegally fighting American troops on the battlefield? If not he goes to civilian court! There IS A difference! There is no hypocrisy here, but thanks for asking!

The right wing bedwetting cowards who are afraid of a guy who lights his underwear on fire or a smokey trunk are a disgrace to this country. Home of the brave, indeed! Sniveling, crybaby weaklings.

    So where is the apology?

Obama, Bloomberg, and the lib media all said this was a white male tea party member who did this, just like the N word said to the congressmen, and the DNC headcorders in Colodaro, the Demo-rats were caught lying.

A majority of Democrats would prefer an attack by a right winger that kills a couple thousand Americans rather than an attack stopped that is found out to be conducted by an Islamic terrorist. Thank god there are no right wingers who do these attacks, just left wingers like the Democrats in Austin and Alabama.

Think about that before you pull the lever for an evil lib. Can you live with yourself supporting such disgusting hate, lies, and anti-Americanism?

To Mike in SA: Unless you want to live in the UK, where there are cameras watching your every move on every street from your doorstep to wherever you could imagine going, we citizens need to keep our eyes open and play a proactive roll in our own safety. And for your information it was Bush who outright overlooked and dismissed critical data (in a security breifing of all things) that could have led to the prevention of 9/11.

We can't all be 'kept safe', save for locking everyone of us up individualy to assure our safety from each other. All the "safety" we gained under the Bush Administration came at an equal cost of freedoms. If we are not careful there will be no freedom left and the terrorists will truly have won.

To John in FL: Thanks for reminding us why FL is the decrepit dingleberry hanging from America's southern ignorance.

A bid round of round of applause for the tee-shirt vendor who is the real HERO in this incident. Obama the Logo President will characterize this as a "non-incident".

The hyper-partisan mindless repubilcans will try a put a negative spin to this event as if what was some type of Obama failure, however lets all remember that the largest terrorist attack on americans soil occurred under the previous GOP administration.

Lets see you folks try and spin your way out of that fact............

Stop letting these people get green cards unless they pass rigorous background checks AND pay a bunch of $$$. There is no reason to take a risk by letting them into the country in the first place – unless they can prove without a doubt they aren't traveling to America to do us harm.

Right after we read him his miranda rights and check to see how many tea party rallies he attended. Oh wait, tea partiers don't get mirana rights, only terrorists do.

The GOP/tea party will have no shame, they will try and politicize this event for cheap spin points. The fact remains that the largest terrorist attack occured on the GOP's watch and americans have not forgotton.

Lets see the GOP/tea party try and spin that fact..............

Wow. There is nothing more "un-American" than some of the hatred I am reading on these comments directed at OUR president. Some of you people sound just as hateful as this monster who tried bombing Times Square.

Bravo-Zulu to our law enforcement officers for catching this magot. Now they must get the rest of them.

I wouldn't call catching the maggot a successful mission completed, as only by the grace of God this idiot didn't know how to make a bomb work. Yes, Bravo-Zulu, law enforcement, my 6-year old daughter could have caught this idiot in a sugar buzz daze! Here is a news flash for helping law enforcement on "getting the rest of them", look for middle eastern Muslims that frequently travel to, HMMMM, the middle east, like say Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabi, Syria or Yemen.....Pathetic! Not a Republican or Democrat, but I say military tribunal with a mandatory death penalty!

When are we going to blame the people trying to harm us and not the people in charge of keeping us safe? I see people have a knee jerk reaction to blame the government for everything. The people attacking us need to blamed. Just like BP needs to be blamed for the problem in the gulf, the terrorists need to be blamed for attacking us. Attacking our government is disingenious and unpatriotic. From all indications, this guy was a loner who just lashed out. He needs to be dealt with but lay off blaming the government. I love my country and my government. I know that they are not perfect – for I myself am not perfect – but they are better than any other place in the world. I will not want to live anywhere else. I LOVE MY COUNTRY, MY GOVERNMENT, MY PRESIDENT AND ALL THE CRAZY PEOPLE THAT LIVE HERE. Nothing that happens will cause me to turn against my country and my government.

I wish the Repubs would admit that they wish this terrorist attack would have succeeded so they could throw it back in the face of the Obama administration. Some of you are truly disgusting.

You people sure find it easy to sit home in front of the tv with a beer in your hand and second guess what our elected officials and the thousands of people they work with are doing. We don't see you out there fighting day by day to keep an eye out in the millions of people and manage to spot the rotten apples among them. You not only don't know what's going on but if you did you wouldn't know what to do about it, so SHUT UP.

I am amazed, when reading this blog, at all the self centered, ego-centric comments made, not in support of discovery and disarmament of this weapon but denegrating the police and the government as if they have some control of the actions of a sick, deranged mass murderer. Its not about teat baggers, republicans, or democrats, or even President Obama and the Congress, this is about a radical group of Islamic terrorists that kill and maim indiscriminitly. Grow up people and understand that these are mass murderers that don't care one iota about your life or anyone elses in this country or the western world. Appreciate that the bomb was discovered, disarmed, and the perpetrators caught.

Probably a Tea Party member upset with Obamacare or that is the spin that the media is trying to push.

Get A Grip: You need to heed your screen name. This wasn't a "terrorist attack on Obama's watch" – this was a thwarted attack. The bomb didn't go off, and no one was hurt.

Perhaps this is the attack you're thinking of: GW Bush ignoring the August 6, 2001 Presidential Daily Briefing entitled, "Al Qaeda Determined to Attack the US Using Airplanes."

Less than 5 weeks later: 9/11

Funny how Obama won't call it what it is.....a terrorist attack on the United States of America on Obama's watch!

As far as.... "will do everything in our power to protect the American people." I feel more unsafe now with this administrations so called protection then I have ever felt "in my adult life."

No, YOU get a grip Idiot! It was not a "terrorist attack" it was a FAILED terrorist attack! They already, as of this morning, HAVE THE SUSPECT IN CUSTODY!!! That's two, count them TWO days after the FAILED attack!! In the seven years after 911 did Bush capture Bin Laden???!!! NO!!! Not with two, count them TWO wars that he started did he capture or kill that monster!! There have been more Al Queda captured or killed during the time President Obama has been in office than in the entire 7 years Bush was in office after 911! That is FACT! Look it up!
