Washington (CNN) - As petroleum giant BP comes under congressional scrutiny as its ruptured oil rig pumps thousands of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, its political contributions are being scrutinized, too.
The top recipient of BP-related donations during the 2008 presidential election was Barack Obama, who collected $71,000, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.
When questioned about the donations Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs made a point of noting that the money came from employees and not the company itself.
White House spokesman Ben LaBolt added that Obama wasn't tied to big oil companies.

People get use to it, with the ruling the conservative SCOTUS gave corporations will be able to give unlimited monies to campaign's not just employee's of these companies. So it will be legal for every company to own a United States Senator.

I have to list my employer when I make a donation to any campaign, and, trust me, my employer and I don't always agree on policital issues.

Pres. Obama received a lot of small donations from a lot of employed people, so naturally, you could go down the line and say, " Pres. Obama was the top recipient of Walgreen, Target, University of (pick a state), Geico, etc... related dollars".

It's almost funny how this is a Hannity Headline–Obama campaign donations are historic in that it came from the common people. Besides, BP was the employees part-time job. There full time job is being a concern, politically involved, American citizen.
So the headline should read Obama was top recipient of American citizens related dollars in 2008
FYI: BP also reports since 1990 they contributed $5 million in campaign contributions, so who got the other $4,929,000 prior to 2008?
