To Wake Up: A socialist? Your kidding, right. So, is anyone who does not agree with you get labeled as a socialist? I guess I am now a socialist? Does this make you a member of the Nazi party? Let's stop the dividing of the world into two categories...my views and the wrong views.

This is a big loss to Congress and the country. Obey is an honest, straightforward, no-nonsense public servant.

I wish he would change his mind.

I always thought Obey was a socialist. Good riddance! We'll clean the house come November.

Rep. Obey will be missed. That means that one more decent person is giving up. I'm sure that is what the Rethugs want and that's for the Democrats to just give up in disgust and quit. I don't see any Rethugs quitting. They're licking their chops at the prospect of dragging this country backward when they get back in. Rethugs don't work, they just object and obstruct and drag their heels, bidding their time until the next election, all the while dipping their snouts in the public trough. The Party of Creeping Rot is a better description of the GOP. Why don't you roll up your sleeves and offer some decent ideas to get this country back on track?

I wish people would stop calling President Obama a socialist. He is not a socialist, a foreigner, a monkey, or any of the other stupid things people have said about him. I'm beginning to think that America actually deserved the mess that we wound up with under the GOP and Bush. President Obama has been a breath of fresh air in the wilderness. I, for one, say thank you.

Guess he's just one more Democrat that has figured out this country isn't about to accept becoming a socialist country.

    Good riddance to a socialist

Ooooooh the "S" word. Don't use words that you can't define . . . it just proves you're ignorance.

Add him to the LONG list of politicians and police chiefs who are quitting or not running again.

    Ask yourself why? Why now?

I will tell you: They ALL know about Planet X and the catastrophic pole shift it is supposed to cause and they do not want to be in office when it comes (which is frankly selfish). It is also Republicans leaving in droves.

What do you think the mainstream news is covering up? You KNOW there is something you are NOT being told. Well, this is it.

Earthquakes, volcanic erruptions, collapsing bridges, stadium poles and buildings, fireballs, water and gas line breaks, extreme and wild weather (deluge, drought, low and high temps and resulting crop shortages), tornados, it is all about the presence of Planet X! And do not for one minute think that the politicians and NASA do not know. Of course they do.

Watch for Venus (the morning star is now the evening star in the U.S., which should be impossible) to get bigger and brighter. This should be impossible except it is getting closer to the earth due to Planet X.

You will see, and you will be sorry if you do not prepare now, while you can.

Obey is a prime example of why our government has failed us. This fat, lazy, socialist wrote the stimulus bill that has done nothing but take more money from our paychecks and our childrens paychecks and our grandchildrens paychecks. Seriously, here is a guy who still thinks he is in the 60's in Madison..........Newsflash Obey, we are in 2010 and everybody is treated equally and has an equal chance to be successful if they work hard. But Obey and Obama think everything is so racially unjust so they can get votes by keeping people poor having them live off of government handouts, WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is so happy the Health Bill Scam passed, well guess what Obey, republicans will take back the House in november and then they will defund it, then they will take back the Senate and the presidencey in 2012, and then they will repeal it. How do you like those apples? Good riddence to fat lazy rubbish!

Another one bites the dust. He was probably low in the polls, along with all the other incumbents. Vote 'em in. Vote 'em out.

Wow. I'm constantly amazed at the idiocy Republicans spew. Seriously, I'm amazed most of them can even figure out how to access the internet to post their nonsense. And I second the comment about never hearing about Republicans stepping down from office unless it's in utter disgrace. The truth hurts, doesn't it?

Obey's resignition wouldn't ve any effect on dems maintaining their majority in both the house and the senate. Well done you've done your part is time for others to do their part for the good of the country.

Great – one of the first and most virulent House Socialists. Maybe the tide really is turning to re-capture America in November. What a huge mistake not to capture the huge support for term limits in 1994. The Executive has it, so should the Congress, AND the Supreme Court! No government official should be granted lifetime tenure Day One of the job.

He's retiring before he gets clobbered like the rest of the socialis... er, uh, I mean "progressives."

2010 is not a good year to be a national socialist labour democrat. I recommend you folks polish up the resume.

No one can blame any polititian, no matter what party, because the reactions to the political issues is generally met with very ugly and negative postings. This gentleman is smart and is leaving because he does not have to take that sh.. anymore, ever think of that? And since you are so very smart, run for office and put those smarts to work!!!

God forbid a GOP takeover. More years of bad policies for the middle class, more wars, more nightmare years. The bush years were the worst in this country's history. But i think that the economy is going to recover even more and people are not as stupid as the GOP think they are. They know that voting GOP is voting for more money in the pockets of the rich and less for the rest of us.

Please don't tell me we will have our first reality tv "star" in congress. The GOP seems to be more interested in personalities and pretty faces than anyone with substance. Centerfold models, beauty pagent runner-ups and MTV reality stars, oh my!
