Obama calls job numbers 'very encouraging'

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama called the increase in jobs last month "very encouraging," Friday saying the numbers are "particularly heartening" in light of conditions last year when the economy was in "free fall."

A government report Friday said the economy added 290,000 jobs in April, up from a revised 230,000 jobs added in March.

"This is the largest monthly increase in four years and we created 121,000 more jobs in February and March than previously estimated. Which means we've now seen job growth for four months in a row," Obama said.

The report also includes a separate survey of households that the government uses to estimate the unemployment rate, which increased to 9.9
percent. Economists had forecast the rate would remain at the 9.7 percent rate reported for March.

"I should also note that the unemployment rate ticked up slightly from 9.7 to 9. 9. given the strength of the numbers it may seem contradictory and this is a reflection of the fact that workers who dropped out of the workforce entirely are now seeing jobs again and are now seeking jobs again, encouraged by better prospects," said the president.

He said the economic growth for the better part of a year is giving businesses "the confidence to expand and to hire new people."

Not really. That is just lay-offs being called back. The unemployment rate actually went up, not down.

More Obama political spin, that is just BS.

Encouraging indeed. Good work Mr. President.
We have gone from losing 700,000 jobs a month at the end of the Bush administration to gaining jobs for 4 straight months.
The unemployment figure is WAY too high, but the economy will rebound unless efforts to continue to support it are blocked. (yes, by Republicans)
We are hiring here in Tulsa, despite the efforts to derail the economy by our Senators. If Republicans would work FOR the good of the people instead of against it, we could do so much more.

He was calling the increase in unemployment encouraging, not the increase in jobs! (Liberal socialist philosophy)

This does not pass the smell test!
290,000 jobs added and the jobless rate increases. Which is correct?
Has the Labor Dept hid the real number of jobless workers to make the economy look better than it actually is or are they trying to make someone look good?
800,000 new workers entered the job market. Where did they come from? Were they already unemployed and not counted? Are the numbers Real or someone's attempt to fool the country?
Can or will anyone tell the truth?

Sounds like that Greek prime minister just before they realized they were bankrupt. Kinda neat that our dear leader Hussein Obozo is not mentioning that 1/3 of those jobs are temporary census workers paid for by our tax dollars. How many more of these jobs are real jobs, not the tax sucking government and pay offs to the lazy union slobs that support this loser president.

It may be true we gained this many jobs..but it's not the 'true picture'...many more jobs were lost. over the last two years..i would even guess this is less than 1% recoup of jobs, if that....and now hidden are those who are 'off' unemployement and still not working....

People just want the 'real' truth...

What he didn't mention is that the majority are short term temp jobs to help with two things:

    1) Tax Season
    2) Census filing

    800,000 JOBS............... 800,000 JOBS................. 800,000 JOBS.......... !!!!

    IN ONE MONTH!

The naysayers will still be unhappy, complaining, lying, etc. JOBS will threaten the GOP's chances in November.

This has to be good news. The Republicans and the dense will
continue to complain. They don't like it when jobs are down(and who
does), now they don't like it when jobs are up(unemployment figures
will surely decrease as jobs continue to increase). So, what to do,
what to do-they will continue whining and moaning and STILL
refuse to work with their counterparts. It took EIGHT YEARS to get
us in this mess, and apparently they are willing to let things slide for
2-1/2 more years until they can get "control" again. They never had
control before, and if there is true justice, they will never get it again
until they come forward with workable answers and a TRUE concern
for the average American. We need all the help we can get, and
they just won't budge. It is becoming more obvious that WE
    DON'T NEED THEM!!!

    These numbers are encouraging!!!

I don't put much faith in the unemployment numbers as an indicator as I know several people who are laid off but are not actively looking for work – either enjoying the funemployment or as many are doing – going back to school.

Using unemployment claim counts just doesn't hold water.

"But the gains went far beyond that one-time Census boost, as private sector employers added 231,000 jobs. And the gains were broad based, as nearly two-thirds of industries across the private sector added jobs rather than cutting staff."

Read the reports before you make dumb comments.......

To the people who think all these 290,000 jobs are temporary census jobs, 230,000 of them are PRIVATE SECTOR, FULL TIME JOBS. Read the freakin' report before you spew lies Republicans.

People with BRAINS know the truth. keep deluding yourselves, telling yourselves that America is going downhill....... We are still the greatest economy the world has ever seen. That will continue despite Republicans efforts to make our great nation fail.
