Republicans won't budge on secret holds on Obama nominees

Washington (CNN) – Frustrated Democrats went to the Senate floor Friday to seek Republican approval for a long list of administration nominees currently blocked by controversial secret holds placed by GOP senators.

But a Republican senator objected to each of them as they came up.

"Most of the people on the list, we don't know why they're sitting there. We don't even know who's making them sit there," complained Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, who is spearheading Democratic efforts to banish secret holds. "Enter stage left, the anonymous hold. Or as I like to call it, nobody can blame me cause they don't know who I am."

McCaskill said the delay in approving these nominees is particularly agonizing because most of them passed out of committee with little or no opposition.

"If there is a legitimate complaint or grievance against any nominee, I think any senator has a right to be heard and appeal to the body for a vote," Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the number two Democrat, said Thursday. "But secret holds, I think, have become a reprehensible part of the process here and need to end."

They get more disgusting and full of hate every day. It hopefully will fall back on these horrible republicans. How horrible and childish.

I believe the President should defy Congress and get these people working, even if in an "acting" capacity.

I'm not convinced the Congress can do anything about it and I would certainly like to see the President challenge these good for nothing Republicans.

Republicans, lead, follow or get the heck out of the way.
Your obstructionism, in SECRET is a REAL PROBLEM.

If you want to put a hold on a nominee, then let's see your face and hear the reason.

This goes for Democrats too. Secret holds are not transparent government and should be abolished once and for all.

I'm sorry, but the Republican "establishment" is so lost in the woods, that Tea Partiers would be a welcomed breath of fresh air and _should_ take over the whole party.

This despicable behavior continues in "hell, no!" mode, to the shock of the nation and the world. Perhaps to the death of the nation.

I don't find it funny when there are senators(republicans) holding up nominations of key personnel. They claim to be so much for national security, yet they are holding up nominees for the TSA. So I guess when we do get hit by terrorists, we can blame the republicans, right? So far two nominees for the head of the TSA have withdrawn due to republican obstructionism.

I think the entire reublican party is reprehensible.

But then, what can we expect of a party who features Rush Limbaugh as it's leader?

These old welfare Repud political Senators need to retire due to the fact they cannot come up with anything that would help our country.

Republican senators are the worst form of toxic waste. Government is not the problem, elected republicans are the problem facing America.

Why is it that our Senators insist on acting like spoiled children? If they don't get their way, they take their marbles and go home.

Personally, I think that any Senator, Democrat or Republican, who has placed an anonymous hold within the last five years should be thrown out of office for childish behavior. If you can't put your name on it, you don't deserve to be there. Period.

The Obama administration is doing all right considering there is not an elected republican in Washington who cares if America succeeds. All we ever get is Toxic Conservative Manure (TCM) from these right wingnuts.

These Republicans really piss me off. They don't want to work and help get our economy back on track, They don't want to vote on the Presidents cabinet and appointment members. What the hell are we paying those fool to do in the senate, to sit around and complain, tell lots of lies and try and protect wall street thieves. Guess what america, we are paying them our had earned tax dollars so they can sit on their asses and do nothing. Shame on them.

At least the Republicans are consistent with their obstruction and inability to accept that they lost in November 2008.

And we all know that as the midterm election cycle heats up, the Republicans will say things like, "President Obama and the Democrats can't get anything done – vote for us!" even though the GOP has done everything in its power to make the President and our country fail.

You know, if my boss hired someone new in a management position and I refused to work with them and actively tried to make them fail, sabbotaged their ideas and in general, never cooperated to the detriment of the company – my fanny would be fired in a heartbeat!

The Republicans seem to have forgotten that the "company" they are messing with is our country – and come November, they are going to be tossed out on their cans!
