Obama: Health care reform 'already delivering real benefits'

Washington (CNN) - President Obama wants you to know that the health care reform legislation, long fought over in Congress, is starting to deliver results.

"It has now been a little over a month since I signed health insurance reform into law. And while it will take some time to fully implement this law, reform is already delivering real benefits to millions of Americans," Obama said Saturday. "Already, we are seeing a health care system that holds insurance companies more accountable and gives consumers more control."

In the weekly White House address, Obama touts the closing of the prescription medication "donut hole" for seniors and a new provision that will allow young adults without their own insurance to stay on their parents' plan until the age of 26.

But Obama also emphasizes that not every provision of the new law has already been implemented.

"I've said before that implementing health insurance reform won't happen overnight, and it will require some tweaks and changes along the way. Ultimately, we'll have a system that provides more control for consumers, more accountability for insurance companies, and more affordable choices for uninsured Americans," Obama said.

This shows how out of touch with reality this man is.The polls show that most people don't like this healthcare legislation, yet he's out there every day trying to sell it.Why isn't he doing more for unemployment which is a more important issue? Why isn't he trying to seal our nation's borders? Why isn't he more concered about all this debt he's running upWhy are you doing more to stop Iran from getting nukes? The list goes on and on !!!...............

Let's see, medical device producers are to be taxed, drug producers are to be taxed and high end insurance plans are to be taxed. Who do you think will really pay these taxes? Employers face fines of lesser costs than the actual insurance for not providing their employees with insurance, so why wouldn't the employer go for the lesser cost through the fine? However, I have seen some of the benefits, almost immediately after the bill was signed...my insurance cost went up 5% in April.

This is certainly not a perfect bill. To get the best health care reform, we needed to get the big insurance companies and big pharma out of the health care as they contribute nothing only take away from the people in huge profits and salaries. But with our system of lobbyists in Washington and these companies having so much clout that was not going to happen the first time around. We needed a public option, but the republicans were dead set against that. They like having the huge companies control our lives, again taking huge profits on the backs of our sick people. But the day will come when we roust them out.

This faux president tells nothing but lies – why are our prescriptions going higher and higher. Agree with anonymous – what in the world is this idiot smoking? Premiums going higher also. Have we ever before had a president who every time he opened his mouth a big fat lie came out?

Why does nobody seem to point out how racist this legislation is? A tax hike for tanning salons?

Not me personally, but who uses this service? Caucasians that's who.

If there had been a tax hike to directed toward a service primarily used by blacks or latinos there would be an uproar.

I see the Fox wingnut points on healthcare reform are being covered by the uninformed today. Remember, the premiums were increasing by 35% to 60% in some areas of the country. 5% is not bad if we can insure over 30 million more people.

What do right wingnuts smoke to make them so uninformed.

Again, only the Obama lap dog media and the Obama drones will believe any of this.

Since this has passed, there have been many articles/reports saying that the health care disaster is going to destroy our health care system, economy, and country. Citizens will now be paying MORE for health care coverage--along with shortages of health care professionals/hospitals/facilities.

And, based on numerous national polls--the MAJORITY in the country still want the health care Bill repealed/changed-–this figure has even gone up.

Maybe S.P. could fix it and make everything all better. I understand she can see healthcare reform from her front porch...just don't ask her any particulars about it. LOL

What bothers me the most about Obama is that he treats the American people like we are so stupid. The majority of us know what is going on and what this nightmare healthcare bill is going to do to the economy. And before any of you start with your, "Well George Bush lied...." need to save it. That doesn't make this president any less of a liar or give him a license to do so. The longer this man is president, the more I come to realize how evil he is. I use to think he was just misguided but no more. He is a radical ideologue, and he is fundamentally changing this country for the worst. Take a look at what is going on in Greece right now. That is what happens when the government promises to take care of it's citizen's every need. They promise, people come to expect it, and when they can't deliver (which is always), all hell breaks loose.

President Obama never said those who have private insurance carriers would see a reduction in their premiums. In fact private insurance companies are the reason the unisured couldn't purchase insurance due to high premiums. So, what were you people smoking during the healthcare debates while private insurance companies were already raising premiums up to 50% in some states. Again, healthcare reform is for the uninsured.

Liston to the first few naysayers. Must be all Tea Partiers who cannot stand Barack Oboma, the duly elected President of the United States of America. All they can see is the first African-American elected to the highest office in the land, and, they can't stand it.

What I see is the first, half-white and half-black American ever elected to the highest office in the land, who happens to be very intelligent, trustworthy, and a true patriot who deeply cares about the people he governs.

Long Live the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama.

Your premiums are going to go up no matter what is going on with
Health reform. Your're angry at the wrong person, the person or should I say Insurance companies, is where the anger should be
direct too. Why should Insurance companies make a profit off of
sick people. But instead of protesting to them, you go after the President of the United States.

Enough with the lies already. You can fool some of the people all the time[i.e. welfare queens],you can fool all the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all of the time. Guess he never heard of that axiom.

Some of you people really need to look in the mirror and examine what you are saying and why.

Seriously. It seems like you posters merely look for Obamas name in the headlines (same as lefties w Palin) regardless of the message, and look for oppurtunities to spew negativity. The man could say the sky was blue and the sun is hot, and youd still find something bad to say about it. Do you just enjoy wasting youre time on here? Does it get you off?

So your benefits went up a bit.. AND?
If the overall plan is going to help out far more people in the long run, then you might want to actually feel good about that. Instead, all i read is COMPLAIN COMPLAIN COMPLAIN, because people are now asked to do more for their country, then doing strictly for themselves.

    You people are disgusting.

Maybe when the people below get to the age when they're on medicare, they won't be able to afford supplemental insurance like my husband and I can. Let's see if you're still screaming the bill is all bad when you're actually benefiting from it.

I am happy with the health care bill. Sure, it's not perfect, but there's not a bill that's ever been passed that was.

By the way, my private supplemental insurance cost went down this month not up so I just don't believe that your bill rose 5%.

This man needs to start proving what he is saying. To many statements that have no factual basis for. We was already ok with insurance reform, but it way early to call that a plus. Lets see the insurance companys survive and maintain there standing in the business world with those provisons The only benifit i see him talking about that may be a help is the $250 to the seniors for prescritions. But that is a cheap price to pay for the 500 bill he is about to trim off there benifits. Nothing good can be said about this healthcare till at least 4 years into it. Although im sure they will figure out it wont fly before we get to that point.
