Feds may sue over Arizona immigration law

Washington (CNN) - Attorney General Eric Holder said Sunday that the Justice Department was considering a federal lawsuit against Arizona's new immigration law.

"We are considering all of our options," Holder said on the NBC program "Meet the Press." "One possibility is filing a lawsuit."

Possible grounds for the lawsuit would be whether the Arizona law could lead to civil rights violations, Holder said.

Another disgusting move by Holder and Obama. I hope the lawsuit falls flat on its face. We need to start looking out for Americans not illegals. All the democrats care about are the votes from these people and nothing else.

The stupidity continues . . . there is no reason other than 'political' . . . if they are going to bring a suit, why not today? It is evident that Obama has again 'put his foot in his mouth' and they will drag this out for all of the possible coverage from the lame stream media.

The Arizona population has no problem hiring these folks and paying them less then minimum wage to benefit the employer. Baby sitters, nanny's, landscapers and any other job they need completed that Americans are reluctant to get their hands dirty on take advantage of these laborers. Now the Right Wing KOOKS that gladly send our youth to be killed in war[DO NOT GO THEMSELVES] are looking for votes and if investigated many of those are using these laborers at the lower wages ,do not pay social security for them [Probably take it from their salary and pocket those funds] are looking for some leverage to get or stay in office. Hopefully you will join Texas when they secede from the UNITED STATES. You deserve one another !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey media outlets, call it what it is. Illegal Immigration law! You are conveniently leaving out the word Illegal. It's funny that the Feds can find the time to sue Arizona for this law, but it cannot come up with it's own laws, or ideas to protect this border.
The reason a law like this came about is because the very politicians in Washington do nothing about our borders. They have let this issue get so out of hand that these border states have to fend for themselves. There has been no comprehensive attempt to protect, and secure our borders in the last hundred years.
Hilary Clinton said that guns coming out of the United States have caused most of the problems on the border as far as the drug violence, and drug wars are concerned. I say it's that wide open border, and large shipment of drugs that come from South America through Mexico that's causing a big Drug problem in this country. Gun's wouldn't be going back across the border so readily if people didn't come into this country, and take them back!
Bottom line if you don't want these kinds of laws to happen Washington needs to get off of their butt's and close the border, protect our citizens, and make Immigration into this country easier to come legally, than to have to sneak in.
Arizona's law is not racist, and it's not intended to be. But hey I'm white America so I'm to stupid to speak on this issue!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama will wait for the ultimate political time to push forward this fight. He craves the tens of millions of latino votes, and will pander as usual with promises of change.

The truth of the matter is that this law doesn't single out any individual group - it basically gives the authorities in Arizona the ability to enforce a law that already exists. If you are here legally, you have absolutely nothing to worry about, and your "liberties" will not be crushed in any way possible.

This issue reminds me of the people who want to protect militant islamic jihadists' rights to privacy here. Stop protecting the wrong people, sheep.

Obama and congress should listen to the American people when it comes to our concerns about the lack of effort in identifying and deporting anyone who hasn't followed the LAW by entering the U.S. ILLEGALLY. President Obama and the federal government doesn't have the right to decide which laws they want to enforce. Obama was sworn in as the leader of the federal government and he swore to follow and ENFORCE the laws of this nation, by not enforcing the laws establish by congress and past presidents he should be IMPEACHED.

Its about time the feds did something. America is a free country and people should be free to come here to improve their lives. Borders and IDs are for racists. Several years ago I can remember talk of having a borderless North American continent. Government has become too large and intrusive in peoples affairs. Once government is eliminated and an open border North America is built we can all live togather in peace. The only thing people of the world need is a free market, governments have no purpose any more.

This is a bad law and should be reversed. it is a violation of peoples rights. the democrats have tried to bring immigration reform, but the republicans are about this like every thing else. just vote no. all they care about is getting re elected and holding power. this will end up in the supreme court.

If I remember right , the Bush-Cheney administration also was going to do something about the immigration. They had 8 years and nothing was done. Why didn't the Arizona do something then instead
of waiting for a Democrat to get into office. I am for legal immigration.
They say we are all immigrints, but our grandfathers went through customs, they didn't sneak in and then use medicaid.

Since the federal government has no spine AZ had to do something. I read the bill and it does not violate peoples rights. Actually this is very simular the the federal law that the govenment wont enforce. The congress and white house has failed the American people on this.

Since at least some of the Arizona law is reported to be word for word the same as federal law, I wonder what points they will sue on. Has anyone reported exactly how much or what is the same?

That it might cause civil rights violations, as reported here, is stupid unless you assume that Federal police cannot violate civil rights, but Arizona police can (and will). What a dangerous idea.

As I see it the 'real' problem is that Arizona police will enforce the law, while the feds too often haven't.

In addition to Mother's Day its "Thank an illegal Day". If you ar a LEGAL immigrant, and you spent an extra couple years in purgatory waiting for your visa, THANK AN ILLEGAL! If you wondered why it took so much longer than previous years to come to America, THANK AN ILLEGAL! if your kid is trying to get a summer job at McDonalds or another typical burger joint AND CANT, THANK AN ILLEGAL! You sheeple dont get it, illegal aliens jumoing the line is stealing freedom from people who are waiting patiently and have paid good money for a proper visa! Latest statistics show @17% of illegal aliens go on to commit crimes and do jail time. 99% of legal aliens are respectful, learn english, intigrate their children, AND DONT COMMIT CRIMES. Im not racist just because I want border controls and laws with teeth!

If the federal government sues Arizona over SB 1070, then the states should sue them over the federal law which SB 1070 mirrors. All these people that keep saying Arizona is against immigration or we are racists are dead wrong. I would argue that they are the racists because this law does not make a distinction in who is or isn't illegal race wise. I do share their concern if racial profiling does start occurring and can be proven. Of course this may not be a stretch with Sheriff Joe Aripaio. However, other than the drug runners and human traffickers it looks like SB 1070 is already having an effect. We keep hearing in the news how illegals are leaving Arizona and I have fewer day laborers jumping in front of me as I leave to go to work.

Obama should be impeached for not upholding the laws of the United States. He can not pick and choose which laws he wiil uphold. Unless he moves forward with inforcement of our immigration laws. Then he needs to be impeached!!! Go!! AZ. I'm proud of my fellow Americans in AZ!!! They have the guts to do what Obama won't lead the U.S. Law agents to do!

Come, let us reason together. There are an alleged (by AZ politicos) 460,000 Illegal Immigrants in AZ. Say it costs $1000 ( a low ball figure but run with it) to arrest, detain and deport each and every one of them. 460,000 X $1000 = $460,000,000. Oh wait, there are an alleged (by RightWingNut politicos) 14,000,000 Illegal Immigrants in the U S A. 14,000,000 X $1000 = $14,000,000,000 – that is B I L L I O N! That is just to handle those in country right this minute – future arrivals will increase these dollar figures. Now repeat after me: Mr. and Mrs. and Ms. Politician, please proceed with an AZ and Federal Income Tax increase, including for me, so we can pay for this. I can just hear Congresswoman Bachmann: "Oh yeah, Ethnic Cleansing is expensive."

Crime = illegal = punishable by law

Arguing against the arizona law is simply offensive to all those who are here legally.

In November vote AGAINST all politicians arguing against this type of legislation.

Our Federal government is too concerned about civil rights when these people are not even US Citizens. You have no rights if you are here illegally. Our Federal Government is to wimpish to even try or attempt anything like this for votes. All Citizens and residents if you do something illegal we strip you have all rights. Who cares about Civil rights when crimes are commited against USA

It is going to be hard for Eric Holder-–or anyone else--to sue Arizona over its new law.

Arizona's law was written by immigration attorneys and immigration professors.

Arizona's law was copied/mirrored right after the federal law. The only difference is that Arizona is actually going to enforce the laws, not ignore them.

The majority in the country-and the majority in Arizona-support Arizona and its law. There are now at 'least' 5 states talking about passing the same law.

And, Obama and Holder should just stay out of Arizona's business.

  24. Washington has failed us

Perhaps Mr. Holder should be doing more to make sure the federal government fulfills its constitutional responsibility to secure the nation's borders? If this would happen (and pigs might fly) then laws like the one in Arizona might not be needed or relevant.

The democrats won't do anything that might prevent them from gaining more voters.
