Bill Clinton lends a hand on wife's debt

Former President Clinton is helping Sec. of State Hillary Clinton retire her remaining 2008 presidential campaign.

Washington (CNN) - If you supported Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her 2008 presidential run, chances are you received an e-mail Tuesday morning from her husband asking for help to pay down the remaining campaign debt for her failed presidential bid.

Subscribers to Clinton's formidable e-mail list, amassed during her 2008 presidential run, received a message offering a day in New York with former President Bill Clinton. A contribution earns the donor a chance to enter their name into a contest."How would you like the chance to come up to New York and spend a day with me?" Clinton asks. "Hillary's campaign still has a few vestiges of debt that I know she would like to see paid in full. Will you reach out today to help Hillary this one last time?"

Clinton hosted a similar fundraiser in earlier this year, and writes he would "like to do it again."

As of March 31, the Clinton campaign was still in debt to the tune of $771,000, down from $845,500 owed at the end of December 2009. Clinton's e-mail list itself is one of her strongest fundraising tools. The campaign raised just over $169,000 during the last filing period by renting out the list to the campaigns of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, Florida gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink, and Rep. Diana DeGette of Colorado.

The Democratic polling firm of Penn and Schoen is the Clinton campaign's sole remaining creditor.

For the record, their tax returns were made public.
I believe I read on CNN, on this Political Ticker, that they, "made a lot, spent a lot, and gave a lot."

She loaned her campaign millions of dollars and FORGAVE that debt. There's millions of her own money she HAS used to pay down the debt.
To suggest that she should pay for the rest out of her own pocket is ridiculous.

Just because the Clintons have money is no excuse. A campaign is like a business. I guarantee you that if Barack had lost, he would have debt. Check most losing campaigns in bitter primaries. I would bet they have had debt.

Hillary needed to stay in the primaries till the end. She owed it to her real supporters, the millions across the country that wanted her to stay. I supported her for President up through the convention till the night of her speech! I will be donating to pay down this debt so that it helps to give her a clean slate for her next move after SoS!

    We need the Clintons.

You are joking right? Pay your own bills, Bill! Oh an Eric31m, you really think our President is that bad???? Take off your hood and put down the burning cross, Eric. It's over. President Obama will serve a second term, 70 million of us will see to it, again.

All her "experience" didn't mean a thing when she has poor leadership and judgment. Can't even run a sound campaign with the millions she raised and Bill's political capital and legacy, and she wants to be a president of a country?

Won't be the first time or the last Bill lends a hand to bail her out from her poor management of her presidential campaign.

This is probably one, if not the most ridiculous story to date. Have these people no shame? Are they not in the loop? Do they not know that Americans are suffering in terrible financial ways....losing their homes, their savings, their very lives???? What a crock!

Is this for real! This should simply fall as "Business Cost" on taxes. The rest of us have to pay for 90% of our employment such as transportation, etc., food, all expenses. Plus she was given millions in campaign funds...she should have not been so mean during that campaign or not lied about TEA PARTIES in China? LOL Remember, she already had a job (Governor) and was looking for a new one (President) AND SHE PAYS FOR IT! My company does not pay for my fuel or car insurance. It's the COST OF LIVING, Hillary! However, I'll bet they already claimed it as a business LOSS in Jan '09.

Put your message on a cardboard sign and stand on a street corner like the homeless do. Then, you'll appreciate what not having money means.

You get to spend a day with him if you win? Holy crap, what do you get if you don't win? He did a lot of good things but not in a way I would be proud of. I actually would have liked this guy if he had owned up to his affair instead of lying. I mean who could blame the guy when you see what he was married to. Oh yeah, and selling nights in the white house to foreigners who were not exactly on the usa friends list for campaign contributions was very slimy too. All that being said, he was a far better leader than those idiots we had until recently as well as the idiots the GOP ran in 08. Yeah McSame, I clearly remember in a debate when you said that oil drilling is perfectly safe these days and no accidents have happened for a long time. It was a lie then and it is a lie now. Or maybe you were just that ignorant. Go Obama!

Read the new book out 'Game Change'. After Hillary lost the nomination race for presidential candidate, she had the audacity to expect the Obama team to fork over some money to help pay HER bills. Bill should pay her debts out of the milllions he made on his books.

  23. No Not Me

Are you kidding me? She spent more than she had and now is asking for us to bail her out when they have personal money to cover it. It would be one thing if it was for charity purposes, (i.e. helping the good of those less fortunate... I'll send in money for Haiti and NOLA any day for the Clinton's) ... but if you are stupid enough to send in money to help them pay off their debt for failed political dreams in hopes that you might gain favor with the Clinton's, then a fool and his or her money will soon be parted.

    Enough is enough!

I've donated and would do it again dozens of times over if possible. I will be delighted to meet both of you......in the White House, Madam President. It was stolen from you by the Obamabots, but we'll see you rightfully there in 2012.
