(CNN) - Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden - the son of Vice President Joe Biden - is continuing to make "favorable progress" after suffering a mild stroke, according to a Delaware Department of Justice statement released Wednesday.

"He will continue to follow standard protocol and receive medical therapy over the coming days, as is typical for any patient recovering from an event like this," the statement noted. "He looks forward to returning to his duties as attorney general in the near future."

Biden, 41, is recovering at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was initially admitted Tuesday morning to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware.

Dr. Timothy Gardner, a top doctor with Delaware's Christiana Care Health System, said Tuesday that Biden was in "good spirits and talking with his family."

"He is fully alert, in stable condition and has full motor and speech skills," Gardner said. "We expect him to make a complete recovery."

Biden was elected as Delaware's attorney general in 2006. He recently served in Iraq for one year as a captain with the Delaware Army National Guard.

He was considered a front-runner to fill his father's former U.S. Senate seat this November, but in January he announced he had decided against a run for higher office.

Biden served as a prosecutor in the U.S. attorney's office in Philadelphia from 1997 to 2002.

I'm glad Mr. Biden is doing well. I just wonder if he was a regular 'Joe ' with Obama care would he have been able to go to a Pennsylvania hospital from Delaware.... I doubt it! Hmmm does Obamacare cover a person to go out-of-state to a better hospital???? Probably NOT! Still, I wish him a speedy recovery.

All the best to him on a speedy recovery.

Just a question, what might be the liberal Democrat reaction to say Cheney's daughter if she had a stroke. Thank god Biden doesn't have to be subjected to such vile hatred. You should remember these differences each November, your country is counting on it!

Most mild strokes are mostly a bump in the road. The danger is a big stroke waiting to happen. That's the life changer. He was living until this after his Dad had two in 88. He survived Thank God.

this just goes to show stroke can happen to anyone..age is not a factor. Age 41 is not old by any means. I hope and pray he does well during this ordeal.
