Hawaii can ignore repeated requests for pres. birth certificate

Washington (CNN) - Hawaii would like for so-called "birthers" to stop asking to see President Obama's birth certificate.

The state passed a law on Wednesday that allows state agencies to ignore repeated requests to view government records, including the president's birth document. Hawaii's Republican Gov. Linda Lingle signed the legislation into law.

This will impact requests from a fringe movement dubbed the "birthers." Adherents question President Obama's constitutional eligibility to be commander-in-chief, suggesting he was not born in the United States despite proof that he was born in Hawaii in 1961. CNN and other news organizations have thoroughly debunked the rumors about the president's birthplace.

Hawaii has released a copy of the president’s birth certificate – officially called a “certificate of live birth” – and the hospital took out ads in two Hawaiian newspapers announcing the 1961 birth.

But adherents to the “birther” theories persist. Army surgeon Lt. Col. Terry Lakin subscribes to the “birther” theory and faces a court martial for refusing to deploy to Afghanistan unless the president shows his birth certificate. He disputes that the Hawaii birth certificate is real.

“I believe we need truth on this matter,” he said in an interview earlier this week on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360.

In recent testimony to a state senate panel considering the new law, Hawaii Director of Health Chiyome L. Fukino said her office receives about 50 emails a month requesting access to the president's birth certificate.

Fukino cited a small group of individuals "who engage in a pattern of repeated requests" in a transcript of her testimony provided to CNN. "We believe having to respond repeatedly to essentially the same request or a variation of the request all centering on whether or not President Obama was born in Hawaii is a frivolous use of department time and resources."

And in a recent WABC interview before she signed the bill, Hawaii's Republican governor said the birth certificate issue “is simply a distraction from the more critical issues that are facing the country.”

“And so I had my health director, who is a physician by background, go personally view the birth certificate in the birth records of the Department of Health,” Lingle said. “ … The president was in fact born at Kapi'olani Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. And that's just a fact. And yet people continue to call up and email and want to make it an issue. And I think it's, again, a horrible distraction for the country by those people who continue this."

"It's been established he was born here,” the governor added. “I can understand why people want to make certain that the constitutional requirement of being a, you know, natural born American citizen … but the question has been asked and answered. And I think just we should all move on now."

These people will stop at nothing. As for the member of the military he is not living up to his oath and should be court-martialed if he refuses to follow his unit to Afghanistan.

As long as these people have allies in the media this propaganda will continue. That includes CNN.

This "birthers" should go and check where his mother was when his was born. Woman carry baby in her womb, not man. I find very difficult that none of these people ask question when prior presidents were there.

Also, I am sure govt check everyone's record when you are looking for govt job in this country.

So, seriously: You "birthers" think that they put a birth announcement in the paper in 1961 as part of this conspiracy? Can I use your tinfoil hat when you're done with it?

This guy should resign immediately; he cheated. McCain should be declared the winner of the 2008 election and be called to finish BHO's term. BHO should be tried for treason, and be jailed for life.

The sooner he does it the better off the country will be.

This Certification of life birth is a fraud not a real birth certificate; it even says "Filed" instead of "Accepted" at the lower left hand side corner.

But apparently, who cares about laws, or the Constitution any more. Certainly not the morons at CNN.

Again, could someone please tell me how President Obama could have gotten this far if he wasn't legitimate????? What is really wrong with these people out here. You can say politics all you want – not so. I'm really beginning to think that there is no hope for us if we can't come together as a country and continue to progress. In years coming, there will be a woman, Asian, Latino, etc. president. I won't be here to see it, but it is coming and there's really nothing anyone can do about it. Its call progression. What's going to happen when the caucasians in this country become the minority (and it will happen!!). Who will they want to elect then?

Holy cow! Someone with such twisted and reality devoid views can rise to Lt Colonel in the US Army? That and his complete lack of discipline and sense of duty demonstrates what kind of people the birthers really are.

Army surgeon Lt. Col. Terry Lakin is a coward who has seized on this issue to avoid service in Afghanistan. How can he justify giving medical help to fellow servicemen and women?

I simply think this is from a concealed racial stand point. Arnold the governor of CA is not an citizen but he became one. Find something else to speak about. You have a job to do.

It's funny how the vetting process to be President of the United States stopped working after 43 others went threw it?... I also think its funny how these "Keyboard detectives" have more vetting power and resources than the FBI, CIA, NSA, Home land and every other Initial combined!

There is now an article that is slowly hitting the associated press (Google it)...........that states that since 1977, Obama has been using a Social Security number from Connecticut, even though he never lived in Connecticut.

The article then states that Obama worked prior to 1977--whose Social Security number was he using before he got the Connecticut Social Security number in 1977???

Slowly but surely, the information is coming out about this fraud that was elected to our White House.

This reminds me of Andrew Sullivan who is obsessed with Gov. Palin's womb. Hey Andrew, Trig IS her son.Get over it. "Birthers" on the right are the same as "TrigTruthers" on the left. The only difference is our media does nothing to expose the truth about Gov. Palin's boy. Why? Because its Sarah.

These birthers are idiots of the first order, including Army surgeon Lt. Col. Terry Lakin (who I think should be stripped of his commission and never be allowed to practice medicine again – since obviously he's delusional).
