Washington (CNN) - After the signing of the Freedom of Press Act on Monday, President Obama declined to take any questions from the press.
During a pooled press event in the Oval Office, President Obama was asked if he would take a couple questions.
"You're certainly free to ask the question," Obama told the reporters in the room. "I won't be answering, I'm not doing a press conference today, but we'll be seeing you in the course of the week."
President Obama was referring to the press availability he will likely hold following his meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderon. Traditionally, these events are known as "two and two's" referring to the number of questions each country's group of reporters will be allowed to ask.
Have no fear, I hear there will be a hard hitting question and answer session of the president posted on his government website. The interview will be conducted by his wife, if will run sort of like the first interview of Elena Kagan on his site.
Obama does LOTS of events, gets LOTS of TV time, but very rarely does he actually take questions.
He is starting to withdraw more and more from explaining his decisions, both good and bad, and this is a terrible sign for this country. Look no further then his complaining about there being too much media.
"Meanwhile, you're coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don't rank all that high on the truth meter. With iPods and iPads; Xboxes and PlayStations; information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment. All of this is not only putting new pressures on you; it is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy."
He wasn't complaining when all that media attention helped him win the Presidency.
This is hilarious, irony is an understatement. Once again, rules and ideas that apply to everyone else except him.
Or perhaps he panicked without the teleprompter, you'd think the press would know the rules by now. He should be able to take off the water-wings at this point.
heading toward dictatorship...Obama's itching to have a reason to call out the military on the people of this country;
Irony, thy name is President Obama.
The irony is too rich.
The "most transparent Administration in history" is already famous for having the fewest press conference in history and being the most secretive and unreachable in history.
A R R O G A N T! ! ! ! ! ! ! we can't throw this narcissictic prima-donna out fast enough. the 15 months he's lived in OUR house certainly has made him think he's special, doesn't it? he could learn a lot from looking at some previous residents – classy men who took their job seriously, not themselves – what a fool – – – – – -
President Obama was practicing his right of Freedom of Speech.
LOL @ President Obama. I Don"t blame him. Why should he answer questions when the press is good at creating news. Maybe if the media gets its act together he willl answer more of your questions.
