Bowling Green, Kentucky (CNN) - Consider it a measure of the acrimony in the Kentucky Republican Party, ground zero Wednesday morning for the Tea Party insurgency.
Dr. Rand Paul's campaign manager Dave Adams reacted with disbelief to reports that Secretary of State Trey Grayson had complained that Paul wouldn't take his concession call Tuesday night.
"That's false," said Adams, who noted that he personally received Grayson's call and he couldn't reach Paul at the time. "I said Rand isn't here. So Trey said tell him congratulations and I will say good things about him tonight and I'll see him on Saturday."
CNN Radio: Bad day for the establishment
WCPO-TV reported the slight, quoting Grayson campaign manager Nate Hodson saying of the slight "it happened." The report also quotes Marc Wilson, whom they identify as a lobbyist and Grayson friend saying, "This is truly a classless act in politics." Hodson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Kentucky Republicans are planning a unity rally Saturday, which is intended to publicly heal the perceived divide in the party. Both Grayson and Paul are scheduled to attend. The state GOP establishment, led by Sen. Mitch McConnell, backed Grayson over Paul in the primary. McConnell was able to reach the winning candidate Tuesday night. Paul told CNN he and McConnell had a 2 to 3 minute phone call after his victory speech and each looked forward to the rally on Saturday.
According to Adams, Paul also received congratulatory calls from Mitt Romney, retiring Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning, and Sarah Palin. Adams laughed and said that if she wanted to, Palin could also make the claim that Paul refused her call because he couldn't reach the doctor when she called for him. "You saw the party last night, it was madness," Adams said.
Adams added that he personally called Grayson back Tuesday night, but didn't get through and has left word with Grayson's chief of staff asking him to call. He is confident the two men will speak Wednesday. "That's how I will resolve this idiocy," Adams said.
Adams believes the flap over the phone call is silly, but added that "I'm still excited. It doesn't deflate the balloon."
Hey GOP, hows that tea party workin for ya? Soon the GOP will be controlled even more by FOX and Rush.
Let me buy this clown a clue, your not taking anything back, just build a fence around your hillbilly State a be happy.
Mark my words, before it's all over the Tea Party and the GOP will split. They might be able to keep it together until November, but by 2012 we will see a full-blown Third Party candidacy from the Tea Party.
Even with all of Obama's problems, he might yet get re-elected, especially if the Republicans and the Tea Party can't get along and split the conservative vote between them.
Oh, poor Mr. Grayson!!! He got routed and now he wants to make Rand Paul look bad. Sorry, buddy, you did it to yourself. The voters have spoken.
Nothing new here. Courtesy and respect have fled politics long ago. Some think it's the new wave, yeh maybe of anarchy and me-first-you-never stared with Bush and his cohorts.
Turtle-face (Mcconnell) has lost control now. NO ONE will control a t-sacker.
ha haq haha ha ha ha
The Tea Party is a disease that will kill the Republican Party. It seems that the TP is a group of power-hungry, self-absorbed, narcissists. There is no playing togther or compromise with these self-important ego-maniacs. The Republican Party was the party of NO. Now it will become the party of NO GOVERNMENT. Let the arnarchy begin. A country without a government is dog-eat-dog, survival of the fittest, is ruled by gangs/vigilantes.
I read somewhere that Eisenhower snubbed Truman at his innauguration. Apparently Truman was not invited to attend. Anybody out there know ?
oh well operation northwoods is coming out of the woodwork
So, what's new? Another made-up story. The press at it again trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill?
Memo to Tim Kaine: "Unfortunately for Democrats, ordinary Americans are unlikely to be receptive to extreme candidates like most democrat candidates in the general election this November."
Hi there, CNN censors! Going to close these comments early, too?
It's just common courtesy to call your opponent back and actually talk to him. Grayson called to offer his concession, and Rand (aka spoiled brat) didn't even talk to him. Here's a basic tip for behaving like a professional, or an adult for that matter, when someone calls you, if you can't immediately take their call, you call them back later.
Paul's victory does indeed signal something of importance. The republican party is now dominated by the lunatic right wing fringe. Although they may win in November, the continuing shift to the right will only serve to further marginalize the republicans.
Rand Paul is even crazier than his right wingnut father.
In my neck of the woods, this is called poor home training! Obviously, Rand skipped basic etiquette classes.
Grayson needs to understand the election is over, so he can stop trashing the GOP nominee, Rand Paul. Grayson should apologize for the idiocy displayed by his staffers.
Very poor of him. Let's hope the normal voters in Kentucky make sure that he doesn't get in in November. His making this far should scare the hell out of everyone! And his behavior in this small thing of the phone call shows what a person he is!
Just like a bunch of tea mobs&repugs.
The Tea Party may appeal to small far-right faction of flat-earthers and John Birch Society types, but the mass of citizens in this country are not on board with this extremist rhetoric. We don't want to repeal protections for the disabled, like Paul proposes in wanting to dismantle the disabilities act, nor do we want unrestrained "open" toting of guns by everyone on the street, like some romanticized Western movie version of a post-gun-control world, as he also proposes. More reasoned judgement by true tax-paying patriotic mainstream voters will prevail over the these wingnuts in the fall general elections and protect us from these Tea Party anarchist screamers. Oh, and Rand, I'm a doctor, too.
Gee, who cares? In what universe could this possibly be news?
Funny how the media makes a big deal out of nothing.
Wow, someone with a real education might get into DC. Cool.
The only message here is that, Tea Party folks are not independant, they are in fact Republicans. All the Tea Party people are backed and funded by the traditional Republican bosses. The independant message is fraud. Let's how much money and support Rand Paul "accepts" or "rejects" from the Republican party...!!!
This guy is the best of the best–hope he wins for the American people–as for the blog re: Big Biden's F-word–I love how CNN managed to publish all of the bratty liberal kids opinions about what a stand-up guy Biden is–I can assure you, there were many, many more that they refused to show who thought the curse word was disgusting.....paid bloggers are always posted....
Now that's just too bad now isn't it? Mexico has stricter Immigration Laws then we do. If you don't like it, pack up your ILLEGALS and take them back home with you. That's what the America people (NOT THE GOVERNMENT) want anyway!!!!
The Government won't do their jobs, because they are just out for themselves and the Hispanic vote. But what they are not realizing is that NOT EVEN THE HISPANIC VOTE WILL HELP THEM THIS TIME AROUND!!!! The American people are fed up with our Government and the way they run things. THIS IS WHY ARIZONA PASSED THIS LAW. We already have a FEDERAL LAW against ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, but the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WON’T INFORCE IT!!!! Let's vote out every one of them (no matter if they are Dem. or Rep.) and replace them with new blood!!!!! Not just in DC but every state in the union!!!!
It’s the ONLY way to get our country back from the politicians.
