Islamic leaders decry Tea Party reference to Muslim 'monkey-god'

(CNN) - A national leader of the conservative Tea Party movement has been strongly criticized by Islamic civil rights leaders for referring to the proposed site of a New York City mosque as a place for Muslims to worship "the terrorists' monkey-god."

Tea Party Express organizer Mark Williams blogged on his Web site last week that the mosque - to be constructed near the former site of the World Trade Center - would be a "monument ... for the worship of the terrorists' monkey-god and a 'cultural center' to propagandize for the extermination of all things not approved by their cult."

Williams, who also referred to "animals of Allah," was rebuked Thursday by the Council on American-Islamic Relations. The group issued a release Wednesday calling on other Tea Party activists to repudiate Williams' remarks.

"It would be shocking if such ignorant comments failed to elicit a strong response not only from Tea Party leaders, but from other parties throughout the political spectrum," CAIR National Legislative Director Corey Saylor said.

For his part, Williams was unapologetic toward Muslims.

"In the course of the article I described the 'god' worshiped by terrorists as 'a monkey god,'" he wrote on his Web site. "I was wrong and that
was offensive. I owe an apology to millions of Hindus who worship Lord Hanuman, an actual Monkey God."

Hanuman is known to followers of the Hindu faith as a symbol of strength and devotion, among other things.

Hanuman "is known as a destroyer of evil and to inspire and liberate," Williams said. "Those are hardly the traits of whatever ... it is that terrorists worship and worthy of my respect and admiration not ridicule."

The twin towers of the World Trade Center in Manhattan were destroyed in an attack by al Qaeda terrorists on September 11, 2001.

What do you expect from tea baggers ? They are biggots, violent, racist, and ultimately un-American. They are as bad as those they pretend to fight.

What the heck? This guy hates Christians and Jews too? Well we worship the same "Monkey God" – Abraham's God. Wow. I guess the Tea Party movement really is the self-absorbed wing of the secular humanists!

There is no such thing as the "Tea Party". It's just GOP Nouveau. A true "tea party" political platform would encourage the rights of individuals to build a mosque wherever and whenever they can afford to do so.

This so-called "tea-party" is a freedom-hating bunch of whiners who simply don't want to pay taxes.

    Insane, insensitive!
America was attacked by "extremists" not your average everyday muslim. Do you condemn all christians for the actions of "christian extremists?" Why condemn all muslims for the actions of extremists.

If it is extremists rubbing salt in the wounds of America then that is not acceptable. However, if it is an attempt to build a bridge then that is acceptable.

So what sounded like a generalized insult to Muslims was actually intended by Williams all along to to be specific praise for the Hindustani deity? Will anyone fault me if I think Mark a stinking liar?

After these comments and similar comments of this ilk. how am i not to believe that the tea party movement has roots in racists ideas.

Its not fair to hindus and it really isn't fair to muslims of all varieties.

This country was built on unity, trust, and the concept that we are ALL americans. Not just some of us. If you want to fix things, don't attack race, religion, sexual preference, etc. Close your mouth, open your ears, listen, and compromise

Mark Williams is very short-sighted indeed–how better to provoke the anger of Muslims than by insulting their faith? He is also obviously unable to distinguish between the millions of peaceful mainstream Muslims and the few radicals who carried out the September 11th attacks.
And, since the God the Muslims worship is the same as that of Jews and Christians, he is also insulting their faiths! Try thinking before you speak next time, Mr. Williams.

So, is Williams saying he confused the Hindu and Muslim religions?

I don't know why I continue to be shocked at the Teabagg er (self named) community. But, how much more proof do people need that this is a movement driven by nothing more than racism. Teabaggers promoting stupidity and anti-intellectualism. This is clearly not a legitimate political party.

While I consider Mr Williams' attitude to be reprehensible, I understand why he and a lot of others feel this way. Followers of a perverse interpretation of Islam–not, I think, by any means, the Islam of the vast majority of its followers–are attacking the US. The least that can be expected is derision. With any luck at all, it won't go any farther than that.

Islamic radicals have to understand that Americans, individually, irrespective of what their government says or does, will eventually react to murderous provocations. They have to understand that, eventually, their provocations will result in harm, to an unknown degree, to Muslims in America. Unfortunately, anyone willing to go down with the plane he's trying to bomb out of the sky is unlikely to care about this "collateral damage."

When will we learn that you cannot speak the truth about Islam or Obama without getting skewered by libertards. Hugo Chavez is the Obama and libertard model for how this country should be run and Obozo is making great progress toward that end.

This is not a shock, The Teabaggers are spiteful, hatefull, racist radicals and they spread their agenda and word to the American people who are just as hateful and racist as their leader and supporters such as Palin & Bachmann. I do feel it is not healthy to put a Masque near the trade center just like I was horrified when after the Viet Nam war was over and our troops came home without a proper welcome and a lot of cities accross the US were spring up Little Saigon and Vietnam strip malls. That to me was a slap at our men & women who fought in the Vietnam war. English is our language no other but make no mistake no one has to give up their heritage. I would like to know where Williams ancester came from because only the Native Americans can call themselves true American everyone else ancesters came ffrom somewhere else out of our Country. How would Williams like it let say if his ancester are from Europe, Russia or Germany what if he were called a Nazi or Kike. Not nice

But it is okay for Muslim's to speak trash about our Christen God and CUT our heads off if we dont beleive in their God. Screw them, their not in the land of Muslim's anymore, their in the land of a Christen nation now.(Even tho Odumbo say's we aren't, bastard)
We didnt make them come here, they knew this want a Muslim nation when they came here for a better way of life.
If they dont like our free speech, GO HOME, STFU!
It was Muslim's who killed 3,000 of our countrymen and still are trying to kill us today and we should bow down and say we are sorry for our remarks. BS, They can kiss my AMERICAN butt.

Honestly this guy had the cojones to say what a lot of people really think, but which would never really be said due to fear of retribution. Islam is a cult. Their sole purpose is to convert all non-islamic people to their way, and frankly if they can't they would be more than happy to purge them from the face of the earth. This religion has no tolerance for others who do not believe, and they cannot engage in any civil dialogue of any type. They cannot handle humor and are insulted by everything that comes along that is not written in the Koran. They hold no hope for progressive thinking ofrhelping to move the world forward. And by the way when a world event happens that requires billions of dollars to help and support to people in distress, look and see how much money the oil-rich Arab countires donate to the cause – NOTHING !!!

I am in no way a tea Party supporter, and in fact vote democrat more than not. But I am glad this particular person had the gall to stand up and really tell it like it is.
