Washington (CNN) – Drawing parallels to her own experiences with rumor and political sniping, Sarah Palin used a Facebook posting Monday to defend the candidacy of South Carolina Republican gubernatorial hopeful Nikki Haley.
"As I said to Nikki this morning, 'Hang in there. I've been there. Any lies told about you will strengthen your resolve to clean up political and media corruption. You and your supporters will grow stronger through things like this.'"
Palin's reaction comes just hours after Haley denied a claim that she once had an extramarital affair with a prominent South Carolina political blogger.
Palin endorsed Haley earlier this month in a surprise move, and then traveled to South Carolina, where the two women appeared at a rally.
"There is some good news for your state," Palin said at the time. "And her name is Nikki Haley."
Haley now prominently features Palin's endorsement on her campaign website – and the Tea Party favorite has surged in the polls since appearing with Palin.
In her online posting, the former GOP vice presidential nominee makes clear she is standing by her endorsement of Haley.
"When Nikki and I held her endorsement rally on the steps of the beautiful and historic South Carolina state house last month, I warned her and her family that she would be targeted because she's a threat to a corrupt political machine, and she would be put through some hell," Palin wrote on Facebook.
Palin's post also harshly criticized Will Folks, the political website editor who wrote Monday that he had an "an inappropriate physical relationship" with Haley.
Urging South Carolinians to not believe the reports, Palin wrote, "[D]on't let some blogger make any accusation against your Nikki if the guy doesn't even have the guts or the integrity to speak further on such a significant claim."
After Haley issued her denial Monday, an associate of Folks told CNN: "He has nothing to add to his comments regarding this matter and will not be conducting any further interviews on the subject."

Clean up the "media corruption." What is she talking about? Because reporters pointed out the fact that she had no experience or the intellectual capacity to hold the VP position, they are corupt? And Ms. Palin wants Blogger Will Folks, the second half of this hanky panky deal, to "speak further about this significant claim". What would possess her to make this request? Any sensible person in politics would want this thing to go away and everyone to just shut up about it. Not Palin – she wants MORE information. It is refreshing to see a politician just step up and say the right thing quickly and decisively. That's just one of the things that makes Sarah Palin genuine.

That has to be the most ignorant comment I've heard. I doubt if Simple Sarah knows the "facts" about anything, let alone someone's sex life. The only thing genuine about Simple Sarah is her stupidity.

A fellow Republican...the one she supposedly nookied with...is the one who outed her. This isn't liberal smear. This is her own darn fault and the media latching onto another juicy gossip-type story to increase viewership and therefore ad revenue. They were all over Clinton and, more recently, Edwards, parading Elizabeth Edwards in front of everyone to remind people what a jerk John was, so you can't claim this is bias. It just plain isn't supportable.
Palin is just plain scary-stupid. The fact that her endorsement means anything positive to anyone is equally scary.

for crying out loud. She posted this to Facebook. That means anyone who cares what she thinks can "Like" her on Facebook, and news sites such as CNN can spare the rest of us the annoyance of acknowledging her existence.
Palin is credible because the media has made her so. I had this debate with a friend of mine who is conservative (but sane) and his point was that if the media would quit following everything that she does then there would be no Sarah Palin to follow. At the same time, I hope she keeps in the spotlight. It reminds the moderates what will happen if they let the Tea Party nuts take over. I expect a lot more votes for Dems this year than the Repubs think. Sure we are tired of the same old bs, but we also aren't dumb enough to put these backwards thinking nuts into power. Did she forget her own rule-of-thumb caveat? i.e., "...unless this makes you famous and controversial enough that the speaking fees, ghost written books and other offers start flooding in, in which case you'd sell your own children for the money they're offering."
