RNC document reveals bleak financial standing

An internal RNC document obtained by CNN reveals the organization has far less cash on hand than it has had in previous election cycles.
An internal RNC document obtained by CNN reveals the organization has far less cash on hand than it has had in previous election cycles.

Washington (CNN) - An internal Republican National Committee document obtained by CNN paints a damning picture of the committee's financial standing compared to the past five election cycles.

The document, pulled together during a recent review sparked by concerns over RNC spending practices, said the committee had $12.5 million in cash on hand at the end of April.

By comparison, the average cash on hand at the end of April from 2002-2009 was $40.4 million. And that average includes the odd numbered years when there are fewer election contests.

Looking only at even-numbered years, this year's $12.5 million end of April COH is less than one-third the amount the RNC had on hand on April 30 for the 2002 ($47 million) and the 2006 ($44.6 million) midterms.

To be fair, there was a Republican president in those years, and the GOP controlled Congress, so fund-raising was less of a challenge. Still, the giant gap in the RNC's financial standing compared to past cycles is a source of considerable grumbling among party leaders and activists who worry the GOP is not fully prepared to take advantage of a campaign year in which most of the fundamentals suggest huge Republican openings.

The internal RNC document also shows how this April was the first month in a year in which RNC disbursements were below $6 million. Average monthly spending by the RNC was $9.3 million, ranging from a high of $16.7 million in October 2009 (the month before governor's races in New Jersey and Virginia) to $5.7 million last month.

The Democratic National Committee says brought in $10.4 million dollars last month. The DNC also reports $15.1 million cash on hand, with $2.7 million in debt.

They really should keep better track of the money they spend on strippers and sex shows. If they did they wouldn't fall below the level they spent on strippers and sex shows during the Bush administration...sloppy book keeping nothing more.

"To be fair?" Now that Democrats are in charge Republicans should be able to raise MORE, not less, cash.

......Because the Republicanknuckleheads are out numbered.

This party is doomed. Its like listening to Grandmother rank and rave, while the rest of us are going...okay....grandma....yes grandma....oh you are so right grandma....now go take a nap.

Oh, and Grandma is a brown people hater...big surprise there.

Listening to Republicans is difficult. They should stick to just talking to each other, my ears hurt enough enduring my senoir relatives and their oh so right opinions.

Is it awful to be grateful that these people and their opinions will soon die off?

BP needs all the money they have for the cleanup.
    Halliburton might be sued too.

They can ask Rush, Glen and Palin for some money. They made enough.

RNC document reveals bleak financial standing
    -------------------------------–

Why would anyone be surprised at this 'finding'? They left the ENTIRE country in bleak financial standing, why should their little chump change budget fare any better?

And there are actually people out there who want the GOP to take "their" country back. Yeah, right back over the edge into TOTAL collapse.

I am downright disgusted with the way the media reports on political party funds. Why does it matter, is money worth more than message? Is there no decency in the press to put the dollars aside and actually focus on something that is pertinent to the nation? I do not care about party funds, I care about the values and the message. Apparently the press only cares about the dollar sign. I say screw it all and reform elections to the point that it doesn't matter how much is in the "war chest". It should matter what they stand for, not how much they charge for a small dinner and a few minutes walking around and shaking hands.

As MANY have said many times--each time this issue comes up.........

The majority of people who are supporting Republican candidates--are donating directly to the campaigns of the candidates--not to the RNC.

How many times do we need to say this???
