"I think he's said quite enough for the - for the time being in terms of national press coverage," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said in an interview set to air Tuesday on John King, USA.
The comments come after a string of potentially damaging interviews with national media outlets, in which Paul criticized parts of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, took aim at the American with Disabilities Act, and suggested President Obama's criticism of oil giant BP was "un-American." Following those appearances Paul pulled out of an interview on NBC's Meet the Press.
"My advice to him would be to speak to the people who are going to be actually voting in this election," McConnell told CNN's John King. McConnell had strongly backed Paul's opponent in the Republican primary.
The GOP leader also said he had spoken specifically to Paul about his comments on the Civil Rights Act that landed the freshly-minted Senate nominee in hot water last week.
Still, McConnell expressed confidence Paul would keep the seat - currently held by outgoing Sen. Jim Bunning - in the Republican column come November.
"According to the polls that came out after the primary, he has a 25 point lead going into the general election," he said. "He's in a very good position to put this Senate race in Kentucky in Republican hands."

What, and (God forbid) Rand Paul is elected to the U.S. Senate, he's not allowed to speak on the floor of the Senate; do interviews; introduce bills; speak publically; etc., etc., etc.?
Jeez, McConnell, you guys are really scraping the bottom of the barrel that your candidates can't handle talking to the press!
Maybe if they weren't all ignoramuses with radical, totally-out-of-touch-with-reality views, they would fare better on the national stage.

Right on, Mitch... Instead of a convoluted way of sticking his foot in his mouth, Rand should follow the guidance of the big dog ... and just say no.
I tend to disagree with Mitchie boy. I believe Rand Paul should be free to say whatever he wants to say. It is after all a free country. He represents the new Republican Party.
McConnell, over 40% of Trey Graysons people said they would NOT vote for Rand Paul. And that was before he opened his mouth up to the nation.
Conway is on top of this and will defeat Rand Paul come November. It really is too bad you've opened up yet another pandoras box (ala Palin) that you won't be able to close.

Although I am no fan of McConnell. It is sound advise to Rand Paul.
