Rossi makes it official

Dino Rossi jumped into the Washington state Senate Race Wednesday after months of urging from the GOP.
Dino Rossi jumped into the Washington state Senate Race Wednesday after months of urging from the GOP.

(CNN) – Two-time Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi officially jumped into the Senate race in Washington state Wednesday, following months of cajoling from national Republicans who view the area businessman as the strongest candidate to defeat incumbent Democrat Sen. Patty Murray.

"Over the past several months, as I watched Congress pile more and more debt on top of our children and grandchildren, as I watched them ram through a partisan, ill-conceived health care bill, as I watched them pass new job-killing taxes and regulations, I knew I had to do something about it," Rossi says in a web video. "That's why I've made the decision to run for the United States Senate."

Rossi, currently a commercial real estate investor, is arguably the best known Republican in Washington state, thanks to his two bids for governor. In an election that went into overtime, Rossi lost to Democrat Christine Gregoire by just a handful of votes six years ago. He was again defeated in a 2008 rematch by a wider margin.

Polls of Washington state voters conducted this year suggest that Rossi could be competitive with the three-term Murray - the so-called Senate "soccer mom" whose approval rating is hovering around 50 percent back home. But Murray is sitting on a formidable $6 million campaign war chest, according to disclosures filed with the Federal Elections Commission at the end of March, and handily won her reelection bids in 1998 and 2004.

Rossi, a former state senator, appears to be kicking of his campaign in the Democratic-leaning state with a message of inclusion, touting his record of working to balance the budget with both Republicans and Democrats.

"I did it by seeking out a fiscally conservative majority, rather than a partisan majority," he says in the video. "Now I want to help do the same thing in the other Washington."

But as Rossi enters the race, he is already facing fire from both the right and the left. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has endorsed another Republican running for the seat, Tea Party favorite and formal NFL player Clint Didier. Didier himself has attacked Rossi as a firmly entrenched member of the Republican establishment.

National Democrats also took aim at the newly-minted candidate Wednesday, circulating a memo to reporters that raises questions about Rossi's investments in foreclosed properties and his firm's failure to pay property taxes on a building it owned.

Patty Murray has done an outstanding job in the US Senate for our state. The Republican Machine put millions of dollars in the election of Rossi in his two bids for Gov and he still lost. He is part of the Republican establishment and Diddler should be able to beat him. Murray will still be there when all the voting is counted. We have more Democrats on the west side on the Cascades and the Eastside has the farmers – go figure they are like the midwest !

Who could blame him. He sees phonies like Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, and Nikki Haley doing just fine. Why not jump in. The Republican party is in such a mess that even the most radical right wingers (do I need to mention Rand Paul?) are getting press. American politics have become a godsend for comedians for the next 100 years. I for one, believe that the media needs to speak out about the Rupert Murdock style tabloid press that has taken over through Fox; the Republicans who are genuinely in office to work for a constituancy that is not corporate, and the American people in general to say enough is enough!!

A vote for a Democrat in Nov, any Democrats, is vote for 9.9% UNEMPLOYMENT, trillions and trillions in corrupt spending and debt, the takeover of healtcare by the Government at the cost of additional trillions and trillions, an incompetent foreign policy, billion dollar circus trials for terrorists in NYC. In short the arrogant ruthless left wing agenda that has driven our nation into a ditch. Nov is our last chance to turn things around and get back on the right track!

I see the smear campaign is already on. Sniffitt the comment you just made is very racist. Dano, Obama has raised the dept in 2 years 3 times what Bush the second did in 8 years. Are you people paid by the DNCC or what. You people are patethic and know nothing. You listen to the pundits and regurgitate the democratic/liberal talking points as if it was true when in fact its a lie. This administration has spent faster and quicker then any other administration in the history of this country. In fact the democrats have been in control of the budget for the last 4 years. If you knew how your government worked you would blame them. Get a civics book and figure it out if you can read.
