New York (CNNMoney.com) – Interior Secretary Ken Salazar reiterated Wednesday that the U.S. government is doing all it can to put an end to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and to enforce ethics requirements in the federal agency responsible for inspecting oil wells.
He also reiterated that the oil spill is causing President Obama to consider adjustments to his plan to open exploration wells for drilling in the Arctic.
The Interior Department faced criticism in a hearing before Congress Wednesday, two days after an inspector general report showed Minerals Management Service (MMS) inspectors took gifts from big oil companies, watched pornography and used crystal meth at work.
But in the hearing before the House Natural Resources Committee, Salazar said he believes most of the bureau's 1,700 employees are "good public servants" and abide by ethics requirements put in place by the Obama administration. He said the department has "zero tolerance" for the ethical lapses, which he also called "reprehensible" and even "criminal."
The cosy relationship between MMS and BP is actually illegal in all states except Nevada when established between people. It is known as organized prostitution between politicos and CEOs, and it has been screwing the American people for decades. Who's going to jail for it?
Why is Obama doing everything but handling this Oil Spill? He claims he has been on top of it since day one. Yea, right. He is doing everything he can to avoid the issue.
Thanks to Obama it has become embarrassing to be an American. Obama has to go whether it be impeachment or he steps down, he needs to go along with Biden, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of the idiots in congress.
Other than arresting the CEO and top shareholders of all companies involved for negligent homicide I think the government is doing what it can at this point. They (BP and the rest of the oil barrons) had convinced everyone that they knew how to deal with such problems when they got the lease, they lied and now the Gulf fo Mexico will turn into a dead sea.
How come there is no reporting of the 11 people that died on this rig? That is the story that CNN and others should report on instead of the stupid palin quote if the day.
If the federal government had bought the equipment specified in their own catastrophic plan, 90% of this oil could have been contained in a small area. Instead they had to fly in the fire booms from other countries.
Sand berms would probably help keep a lot of the oil out of the marshes but the EPA needs to do an environmental study first? What idiots we have in charge.
It makes you wonder if obama likes seeing this getting worse to further his cap and trade agenda.
There should be an army of boats skimming the ocean, there should be barracades being built (call up the freaking army if you need to), when one attempt to stop the leak fails the next should have already been put in place, no more waiting weeks between attempts to stop the leak.
