S.C. blogger reveals texts with top Haley aide

(CNN) – The blogger claiming to have had an affair with South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley has posted a series of text messages between himself and Haley's campaign manager that appear to show the two men colluding about how to handle the forthcoming scandal.

The messages, covering a nine-day period earlier this month before conservative blogger Will Folks went public with his accusation against the Republican hopeful, were posted Wednesday morning on his website, FITSNews.com.

"I'm telling you man, we keep this under wraps and nh is going to win," reads one text message from Haley campaign manager Tim Pearson to Folks on May 15.

Pearson and Folks swap worried messages about different reporters chasing the story, and one exchange suggests there may be a newsworthy photograph of Haley and Folks.

Pearson confirmed to CNN the authenticity of the text messages.

While Pearson and Folks make allusions to the "rumor," there is nothing in the correspondence proving Folks' claim that he had an "inappropriate physical relationship" with Haley in 2007.

But Folks has suggested that he has more text messages and e-mails from Haley proving the supposed affair. He has yet to make that evidence public.

FITSNews.com says the correspondence released Wednesday bolsters Folks' credibility in the ongoing war of words currently consuming South Carolina politics.

In the face of blistering criticism from Haley supporters, Folks has argued that he had been supporting Haley in the governor's race and keeping her campaign "in the loop" about reporters and political rivals looking into the alleged affair.

Folks said on Monday he decided to go public with the claim to "get ahead" of the story to protect his family.

Haley, one of four GOP candidates competing in the June 8 primary, has emphatically denied Folks' allegation and blamed political opponents for the "disgraceful" charge. Haley and her supporters - including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin - have worked overtime to undermine Folks' credibility.

Pearson said the text messages are authentic but said he was only working with Folks to prevent "false rumors" from coming to light.

"This blogger's overactive imagination has gone into overdrive," Pearson said in an e-mail to CNN. "South Carolina politics is full of rumors and innuendo, and of course our campaign did everything in our power to prevent false rumors about Nikki from airing out in the media as they now have.

"Every campaign would have done exactly the same thing," he added. "As always, Nikki is determined to keep this campaign focused on the people and issues that matter."

It is amazing how these Conservatives are always revealed as being people who don't practice what they preach. You have anti-gay advocates being secretly gay, women who portray themselves as loyal wives having affairs, children of them having pre-marital sex, church goers preaching about Jesus with a machine gun in their hands, etc.

    The hypocrisy is unbelievable.

Peoples personal lives are just that, personal. It's nobody's business. Is CNN a news site or a tabloid ?

I notice that so far all of this guy's "evidence" doesn't actually prove anything. Even the text messages only mention the rumor but don't actually confirm a relationship between him and her.

Sounds to me like this guy is an attention hound.

deny, deny, deny, and hope, hope, hope! strategy of a losing race! he has more text messages, watch out tea partiers, seems like old times again, "meet the new boss, same as the old boss!" South Carolina, the bastion of hypocrisy! Claim to be good, god fearing, moralistic people, but not fearing enough for the forbidden fruit! I think she will be going for a hike soon, both literaly and symbolically, somewhere Sanford is laughing out loud!

Wow, a politician lying? No way!

I guess the thing that makes this newsworthy is that she pretends to be a "good Southern Christian girl" with "family values".

Like most Southern Republican politicians, they may pretend to be holy, but eventually they'll get caught tapping their foot in a restroom stall, having lewd online conversations with underage boys, or cheating on their spouces.

first of all, who found out about the texting? The CNN stalkers snoop and pry into privet lives and then report what they only think they know. As far as Haley, who the hell is Haley, I live in Columbia SC and I have never heard of her. I hope the hell there are other candidates much better then that stupid looking woman who by the way is backed by that loser Palin.

I can't see why Folks would lie about the affair and thereby damaging his own reputation as a married man. Sounds like Nikki has some splainin' to do.

What's your position on this Sarah Palin? Lamestream media attacking an honest family values candidate ... you know how us Americans hate family values.

I knew all along this woman had an affair. Now she so forcefully denied it, her supporters will think she's a hypocrite. I'd sleep with her.

Why is it when Clinton was acting like
a sexual moron while in office all the
liberals thought he was sooo cooool ?
But liberals grow morals when a Republican
    is accused of the same.

Nothing a high dollar endorsement from SP won't cure.
Support from SP is the kiss of death these days anyway. Typical Neo-con family values at work I'm sure.

    Look...

Whether she did or didn't doesn't really impact her ability to govern.

Of more concern is Sarah Palin's rush to make statements on the topic when she had absolutely no first hand knowledge of the facts.

Deny, deny, deny, then Admit and ask for forgiveness. That is South Carolina politics. Just ask the Gov. Sanford.

    And so the cycle continues.

South Carolina supports candidates that have no knowledge or reason concerning policy but endlessly trumpet their "devotion to their family"... then SC makes national news by having those same politicians (who are worthless concerning policy) involved in affairs.

SC's only claim to fame in the last 8 years have been underperformance, idiocy from our representatives and senators... and of course – scandals.

I think at this point the republicans just try to find scandalous people so that we can avoid talking about our underperformance.

So, if it turns out that Haley did have an extra-marital affair, is Sarah Palin going to apologize to everyone she chided and accused? Honestly, though I am a progressive Democrat, I wonder if we shouldn't all just take a step back and remember that politicians, like everyone else are plain and simply human beings with all of the faults and frailtys that go with being a human. If Haley is the right person for the job, then the good folks of SC should elect her and keep her personal life out of it. Enlisting divisive folks to prop her up is counterproductive, run on the merits, don't run on hate and fear.
