(CNN) – President Barack Obama said Thursday that the federal government is "in charge" of the Gulf oil spill response effort. "BP is operating at our direction," he said.
obama's news conference although rare, demonstrates the same old tired format, including only planted /softball questions by select media that the WH has preapproved. Of course, what can we expect when we elect a community organizer. What I don't understand is why he did not take his telepromtper down to the gulf and reason with the oil spill.. "now look".. oh yes, too busy planning for his weekend vacation, getting photo ops with sports stars and rock legends, and generally standing by while rome burns. Good work!

If the federal government is "in charge" of the spill, then the federal government has accepted responsibility for the clean up, which is say that when–not if–they screw up, it's the government's screw-up just as much as it is BP's.

Obama is in charge of the efforts now. That means we are totally screwed.

Sounds like a bunch of hooey. All press coverage surrounds BP's efforts to contain the spill. I would like to see the U.S. take total control and just send the bill to BP. A bill not just for stopping the flow; but the cost to the environment; the destruction of habitat; the destroyed jobs and families; and for every dead fish, bird, invertebrate, plant and microbe. It is time to move past a fossil fuel economy. Let's stop all drilling in the oceans until it is absolutly safe and the technology exists to control the possibility of this type of fiasco.

How did you guys in the media cover the oil spill 30 years ago that took took 9 months to drill a relief hole to stop the oil from leaking in the gulf? Did you guys blame the president for thatoil spill. Did you guys demand that the oil be stopped in one day? Please let me know. I'm curious to know if the president in 1979(Carter) got the same criticism that you guys are giving to our current president.
