Grand Isle, Louisiana (CNN) - President Barack Obama returned from a tour of the oil-stricken Gulf Coast on Friday and vowed to do all he could to help area residents and businesses clean up the mess and recover financially.

"We want to stop the leak, we want to contain and clean up the oil, and we want to help the people in this region return to their lives and livelihoods as soon as possible," the president told reporters.

Flanked by more than a dozen Gulf-area politicians and officials, the president - the sleeves of his shirt rolled up - called the oil spill that began April 20 and continues today "an assault on our shores, on our people, on the regional economy and on communities like this one.

"This isn't just a mess that we have got to mop up. People are watching their livelihoods wash up on the beach."

Barrier islands would only push the oil further ashore in other places.

Funny people talking about what a good president we have while he puts off doing anything to promote his far left agenda no matter how many bad things because of it and then when he speaks they just fall at his feet and blame Bush.

50 cents and another Barry Soetoro promise won't even buy a cup of coffee these days! Now he's heading off for another vacation! Maybe something will get done before he returns for his Paul McCartney concert. What a empty suit!

Is he finally going to do something. If this was Bush all of the media and people would be all over him. Case in point Katrina. Well this disaster is just as bad if not worse. The destruction to the habitat will be longer than the hurricane.

Our fearless leader has don't nothing, nada, zero, zilch, but only pontificated. Useless politician.

Get off your dead backside and do something. Lead you idiot!

It might have meant more if he'd made the trip to the Gulf Coast his priority instead of going to San Francisco last week to raise money from his rich left wing friends. Average working people always seem to be on the bottom of Obama's priority list!

The oceans are our lifeline. Anyone who is familiar with the "spills" of Santa Barbara, CA and Exon Valdez in Alaska know those coastlines are still suffering. How many humans, birds, fish, sealife must die in manmade environmental disasters before we say no more? Let's ban all off-shore drilling forever.

There can be no doubt that negligence is to blame. Negligence to the rig workers' safety, negligence to the safety back up protections that were not tested, negligence to the people of America who trusted this company to take an accountable, active roll directly after the accident, negligence to the wildlife in whose trust we humans are custodians and who are now dying, negligence to the land forever tainted by the greed of a few and in whose protection we have failed. Without a doubt, every single penny spent due to this "spill" must come from BP, (left the BP executives do a little "family hold back,") and not be passed onto the tax payers of this country; we are already paying in the lost lives of the drilling crew, health of the clean up workers, lost livelihoods, lost GDP, lives of our wildlife, a coast battered by a toxic soup, and our planet earth struggling that much harder to sustain life in the face of man's insatiable greed.

THE MAN JUST CAN'T WIN WITH STUPID AMERICANS

(1.) – President Obama using a stimulus plan brings the nation back from the brink of economic catastrophe not seen since the Great Depression; but the Republican-GOP Tea Party protest that he should forgo the stimulus plan and allow the economic disaster to destroy the nation and reverberate around the world.

(2.) – President Obama put together a financial package that saved U.S. auto manufacturers from causing a national economic disasters; but the Republican-GOP Tea Party falsely protest the U.S. government was buying control of GM and Ford.

(3.) – President Obama work with Democratic Congress to provide health coverage for 35-million hard working Americans, and to ensure those with coverage do not lose it. But Republican-GOP Tea Party falsely protest U.S. government was trying to control and kick-out private health insurance companies.

(4.) – Now these same hypocritical Republican-GOP Tea Party wackos who claim Obama was using the government to gain control of private corporations; are claiming President Obama is not providing federal assistance for southern Republican-GOP states that decried Obama's support for northern states impacted by U.S. auto-manufactures failures.

obama finally heard about the oil leak in the gulf. Now if someone will tell him what to say. Maybe while he is in Chicago this weekend playing golf his handlers can decide a spin to put on it as the blame Bush does not seem to be taking hold.
obama finally got that 3am call and his response was "I don't know".
    Some leader right?
This is the bozo you elected. Are you proud of him? .

Pray for the incompetent, obfuscating Obama but do not trust him!

He needs to be unselfed, and only God can help him with that transformation! :)

obama doesn't have a clue let alone care about this terrible situation. If the govt. had allowed oil drilling on ground instead of off-shore there would not be this problem. Spills can be contained on land almost impossible this far down in water. Why didn't they do the obvious and drill next to this well or on top of it. How strange just a few days after obama says in will let off shore drilling – boom – an oil rig explodes.

I swear – you people still clinging to Obama bringing about anything positive must live in a parallel universe. He's brought the Chicago cut-throat political machine to DC, & he's managed to be demonstrably more partisan & less transparent than even W. ONE press conference in over 300 days. But his diplomacy's going swimmingly.

How long will accept "it takes time..." when it's apparent the "poli-ticians" (many – blood suckers) will use that "time" to steal, take bribes, corrupt others, and think up new lies JUST TO AVOID DOING THE JOB THEY WERE HIRED ..VOTE OUR VOICE.
These "blood suckers" are NOT avove the law...we are the law..in the face of their illegal activity..rise up America and get a voice or there will be no America left.
Check out the economic division of rich and poor in India, China. THAT is coming to America to a neighboorhood near you.
    STOP IT NOW.
