(CNN) - The White House has ordered BP to fund Louisiana's plan to dredge up walls of sand along its coast to head off the massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced Wednesday.
Shouldn't this have been done weeks ago. Lightly late if you ask me. Why bother now???? Too little, too late!!!!!!!
Government has a role to play and that role is to protect the citizenry from reckless corporations that put profit over our health and environment.
Now little Bobby Jindal and other southern republicans have stop whining about big government for the moment so they can whine that they now need help.
Is that legal? Sounds very dictatorial of the president. He can't go around ordering people, or companies, to do his bidding. Actually, wouldn't even a Congressional order be a bill of attainder, and thus also illegal? I'm not a lawyer, so someone will have to fill me in on the latter. But I don't like this.
start makeing bp share the burden fine them one miiion dollars a day
does he seriously think we have enough time/resources to erect giant "walls of sand" before the next wave of oil hits the shores? that takes years not days to build...the Republicans will blame Obama as usual
too bad Jindal didn't get this a month ago when he first asked for sand berms.
Do the Republicans want big government or don't they? Hmmm
Bobby Jindal and his wife are "A WASTE OF TIME" in Louisana. They should never be in Politics. They like politics but politics does not like them.
Or else what?
Well, it's about time !!! Should have happened 3 weeks ago when it was asked for.
What's funny is watching all of these oil supporter republicans who are against the government now begging for the government to help them with the oil spill. Hypocrisy at its finest yet no one is calling them out. Especially Jindal who questioned funding for explorations in the stimulus package. Our own military isn't even equipped to deal with this problem so what do they want Obama to do. Go and plug it himself? Everyone wants him to stop it but no one came up with an idea yet on how to do that.
And can someone please tell the fake newscasters like Anderson Cooper that this is not Katrina. There was over 1000 HUMAN beings who died and more who had to pick up and leave and will be traumatized forever!
This notion that Townsend just tried to shove down the audience's throat was atrocious. It was as political as she claims the AG was in wanting to show support to a depressing and enraging situation. Her response was enraging to me. Prosecutors remain in the background? BS
Can "we" dictate to the foreign companies that are taking the oil for public resale?
Really like to know how that works.
Hope something works soon.
FINALLY.. hold the corporation responsible. Make them pay, versus using our TAX DOLLARS to pay for it.
Yet something tells me since the White House is involved, the partisan radical commenters will be out in force to say at least one thing negative about this and Obama. Why? Because thats the only thing they can do. Hell, the sky will fall the second any of you posters say a positive thing about this administration...
Good Job White House.
And while you're at Jindal, go ahead and announce your political ambition to become President while you have a chance because it ain't gonna happen.
ordered? Wait a minute is this still America? Doesn't congress have to concur? Obama has no authority to order anyone but the military to do anything! Guess he's taking one from the Bush playbook, ignore the constitution and do whatever you want. These crooks have destroyed our country and our freedom. To hell with them all!
About time! How about big "walls" near the shore to keep the oil from reaching the beaches and, maybe too late, wetlands?
Look at that. The state plan is approved and taxpayers don't have to pay for it....I bet some of you will still blame President Obama of destroying "states rights" and for increasing the federal deficit. If Billy Nungesser had his way, we would all be paying for this out of tax dollars! President Obama is a smart man who thinks through the problem and comes to a sound decision.
That's the very least BP can do. Louisiana has been the victim of two disasters, one natural and one man-made. The need help and President Obama is trying to make sure they get it. Now Gov. Bobby, remember that when you complain about President Obama and the government. If Bush were still president, well, you know what I mean. Katrina highlighted every weakness this man had in governing.
