Kucinich wants Obama to 'call Israel to an accounting'

Dennis Kucinich called on President Obama to 'call Israel to accounting'.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, called Wednesday on President Barack Obama "to call Israel to an accounting" for its attack Monday on a Turkish ship that was traveling in international waters laden with humanitarian goods for Gaza.

Israel's conduct "constitutes an act of belligerence against Turkey, which at one time Israel considered an important ally," the Ohio Democrat wrote. "It also undermines United States' troops efforts in Iraq, since your administration's efforts to achieve stability in the region and to withdraw troops from Iraq has depended upon Turkey's cooperation through use of its air bases."

He called for the United States to "begin to redefine its relationship" with Israel and for Israel to face diplomatic and financial consequences for the attack, which killed nine people.

"If our nation fails to act in any substantive way, the United States licenses the violence and we are complicit in it and our own citizens will be forced to pay the consequences," he wrote.

No one tells Israel what to do or make them accountable for anything they do, the U.S. and nobody else. Keep sending them their check or else we might be next in line.

As well as he should. Obamas 1st mistake was NOT calling Israel to the floor over their terrorist activities. Hell we give them $4 BILLION in aid each year plus weapons, which THEY in turn attack Palestine with. Its no wonder the Arab world hates America. Its because of our love affair for Israel.

We as Americans need to STOP funding ALL countries, not just Israel. They made their own beds, now they have to lie in them. THEY should be deemed a "Terrorist State" by each and every Presidential administration from this day forward, until Israel comes to the table with REAL ideas about a Palestinian state!! THey p!$$ed on the Camp David accords.

Why do we give them money? We saved their butts from extinction after WW2, they owe America, NOT own!!

The reality is that Israel is not interested in peace at all, they just want to keep the palestinian territories that they captured in the 1967 war. They just want to keep alive the conflict at the expense of US money, prestige, and the risk of being attacked because of defending Israel.

Personally, I want Obama to end all economic and military support for Israel and possibly sever diplomatic relations. We don't need those murderous thugs and having anything to do with them is just bad for the US.

(And, BTW, ending our relationship with Israel would save us billions of dollars every year–not a bad deal.)

While they are at it, why don't they call Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran to account? Or the protestors who attacked the Israeli soldiers.

How antisemetic can the democrats get?

DK can be a bit off at times, but in this instance he is dead on. This just creates hatred towards the west with arab nations. If we fail to hold them accountable then we may as well have done it ourselves. This was just murder of humanitarian aides.

I wish this man had won the Democratic primary that way we could have the Bush administration investigated and have real leadership now.

So, if the US establishes a navel block-aid and some protesters decide to set the US up and run the block-aid, the US should let them pass?

I'm not defending or supporting the block-aid, that is a different issue. The fact is Israel established it and warned the protesters they would not be allowed to cross well in advance. I usually take Israel at its word especially regarding military action. What did they think would happen? Exactly what did happen and they are loving it.

You are right Mr. Kucinich. What Israel has done is unconscionable and is rightfully condemned by the international community. The blockade of an entire population as collective punishment is abject and reminiscent of another dark age which led to the creation of the State of Israel. Abusing military force is in fact a sign of great weakness.

    There is video available...

Perhaps Kucinich should do some homework before thumping the podium and condeming our ally.

I don't understand why these people love terrorists so much.

DK represents all that is wrong in this country. A complete imbecile elected and re-elected to office. If he represents the collective thinking in the state of Ohio then I will be mindful to avoid traveling there anytime soon. Maybe he and Shirley M should hook up for another pool party with the aliens..

Let's see kucinich (UFOs), backman (crazy witch), mcnasty (the worst disaster next to the Gulf oil spillage = AK bimbo who has yet to post to facebook – she must be looking up Israel on a map). They all have something to say about not just how the President should handle this problem but it's almost as if they are blaming him for the problem.
Is there anything that is NOT Obama's fault?

The leader of the flotilla has said "we will never make peace with Israel. We hate Israel...does that sound like freedom loving, peaceloving people? Israel had requested that the flotilla anchor peacefully in Israel and be allowed to be searched to be sure no weapons that could be used against Israel were on board. These "peaceful" people refused. THey asked for trouble, they got trouble and now they are using it as propoganda against Israel. If they were serious about getting aid to the Palestinians, wouldn't they have willingly let their flotilla be searched if they had nothing to hide? Israel knew who was on the flotilla and who was leading it...do you know the background of the people on the boats before you criticize? Get all the facts and then make a judgement.

Israel is God's chosen people; you don't side against them. Don't make a decision on what was "allowed" to be put in the news. They have always been persecuted. They just have the guts to do what is needed to protect their people; they go after terrorists and those who have ties to terrorism with swift retaliation and action demonstrating that they won't be pushed around. Too bad the liberals in our own country don't believe in preserving the freedoms and security of our own nation.
