McAuliffe says Obama needs to 'amp it up'

(CNN) – Urging President Obama to "amp it up," former Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe said the president should invite the world's oil experts down to the Gulf to brainstorm a solution to the BP oil disaster.

"If I were President Obama I would call everybody in from all over the world. I have got no pride in this. We have got to shut this down," McAuliffe told CNN.

McAuliffe declined to join the chorus of critics who say the president hasn't shown enough emotion during the crisis. Still the one-time party chairman said former President Bill Clinton "probably would have moved the White House down there."

After his unsuccessful run to become governor of Virginia, the 53-year old McAuliffe started a clean energy company, GreenTech Automotive. Last month, he purchased the China based "My Car" electric vehicle company with plans to move manufacturing operations to the U.S. McAuliffe bought the company after test-driving one of the vehicles in London. The small two-seat electric vehicles can be plugged into a standard garage outlet and go 70 miles on one charge, at a cost between 13 and 15 thousand dollars, McAuliffe said.

"We have got to get off of oil… We need people buying electric vehicles," McAuliffe said. "China, the Middle East are eating our lunch in moving ahead on wind, solar, biomass, waste to energy. We should be the world leader," he added.

McAuliffe also dismissed the controversy over White House meddling in at least two Democratic Senate primaries. But the former DNC head said the White House should tell all it knows.

"I think they should put out what it is because I don't think anybody would be shocked at the end of the day, this is politics," McAuliffe said. "When I was head of the party, I would call people and tell people 'I don't want you to run.' That's your job."

I for one am happy to see that we finally have a President who thinks before he reacts. Besides, nothing the President could do even if he stood on the shores everyday, the leak cannot be stopped, period! Oh Augsbee, don't you mean Clinton GOT alot of action. And for the record mouth breather, action is a result of ideas.

He has failed the test, except for that day they hired four hundred workers to stand on the beach next to him and pretend they are cleaning. I love the Katrina comparison, for days they were told to leave and the democrats left town, so this was Bush's fault right.

I'm surprised Americans are such babies and want Obama to be their father figure, hold their hands and feel their pain. Seems like he's just working the problem and leaving the emotion and hand wringing to the news media. Everyone is concerned and want this problem to be solved, but most people don't want the president to show anger and compassion, they just want to get the job done. Only the clowns in the media and bloggers want the president to be more emotionally engaged. I prefer him not to be emotional at all, I want a technical solution to a technical problem.

Another guy who 'knows' how to be President but couldn't even get nominated by his own political party for a Governership. The Clinton wannabes, doing what they do best, moving their chops, saying nothing.

I am frigging tired of the media criticism of the President.

As the leader of a country with an overflowing plate, he must have time out or he will burn out!!!!

I want a President who can take time to play basketball, listen to some music, and not become undone by the pressure of the job.

What the hell is wrong with the media?

Don't worry, be happy...sound sort of like the old Mad Magazine dude Alfred E. Neuman...What, Me Worry? Well, I am just adding to what one of the below readers has suggested that is the motto of the bumbler in the Whithouse and his akin to the Mad magazine trademark of yesteryear...the one with the flappy ears and very juvenile behavior after all his mature rhetoric!!!

Terry, you are not and never will be Presidential material so your opinion about what the President should or shuldn't do doesn't really matter one hill of beans!

Terry, Listen to the news before you run your mouth. As with Hillary, you don't know what the heck you are talking about.
Obama had said a number of times that he has 100 of the world's best scientists in the Gulf working on this. By the way, thank God you are not in charge...

"The WORST most inept president of my lifetime by FAR"

Oh YEAH, way worse than Bush, right???? I mean he probably would have declared WAR on Great Britain by now since it's BRITISH Petroleum!!!

Unfortunately, the most amped up are the mouths of the ignorant who speak sans substance and only with sarcasm and emotion. After almost four decades with a major oil company, I can say with assurance that the best and brightest minds from other oil companies have been working on alternative solutions. They recognize this is not only BP's problem, but could well be theirs some day. So to all the armchair experts, your suggestions have already been considered. They may sound feasible, but emotion doesn't solve anything!!!

I just love how when everything goes bad heck, even good...they want to blame Obama for something! You right wingers helped cause this problem by electing Bush who ALLOWED these oil companies and big corporations to do whatever the heck they want..and now you want to complain that Obama's not doing enough? you people are seriously in need of some psychological help!

Also, you sit there and want "government out of your lives and the free market" but then you cry bloody murder when the government doesn't do enough in these types of situations...seriously, where do you get this line of thinking?!!! SEEK PSYCHOLOGICAL HELP!

GOD BLESS PRESIDENT OBAMA AND THE FIRST FAMILY! MR. OBAMA YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT 100%...AND MY VOTE IN 2012!!! YOU KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING SIR.

What good showing alot of emotion do??? I think Pres. Obama has such a calm and cool head, that he uses it for thinking. Like he explained on Larry King, his job was not showing alot of emotion but that he was furious about the oil spill and he said his job was to solve it.

What do all of these morons want Obama to do, swim down and stuff clown Boehner into the pipe to block the oil? The Federal Goivernment, INCLUDING The Military have NO WAY to do anything about stopping this catastrophe! The Obama administration has done all it can possibly do unless it is to resort to ILLEGAL actions such as siezing the assets of BP which Republicans would all be up in arms about if this were an American Corporation. Pounding on the podium and throwing fits will do nothing, and he definitely is not JUST flying over as the clown Bush did for Katrina of showing up and saying 'You're doing a great Job Brownie.' Holding BP responsible is what is being doen and MUST be done, anything like taking it all over gives BP the excuse to duck out of their responsibilities and say they are not responsible, do you all forget that the laws passed by the Moron Republicans limit their responsibility to 75 Million? Step in and take over and you open up the can of worms where they show up in court and leave the US holding the bill for the clean up by arguing they did not do the work and were not responsible for the cost and then limit their liability to 75 Mill. If you wish someone to raise more of a fuss it should be the irresponsible Republicans who block every attempt to raise the responsibility of ANY oil company above 75 Million, that is where the real disgrace lies and what Americans should be up in arms about!!!!

The critics of President Obama have no choice but to try to find fault. So I understand their dilemma which is trying to justify, deny, and try to make us forget how the Bush administration came into office with a surplus and by the time he left office the country was in debt and in shambles. He was just as bad as Wall Street. Has anyone notice how silent Bush has been since he's left office. That's by design because the party of no and the critics want us to forget. NOT A CHANCE!!
