Open mic catches Fiorina dig at Boxer

(CNN) – Newly-minted U.S. Senate Republican nominee Carly Fiorina added her name Wednesday to the annals of unfortunate politicians caught by an open mic.

Waiting to be interviewed by affiliate KXTV Wednesday morning, Fiorina is clearly heard taking a dig at her rival for the California Senate seat, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-California.

"God, what is that hair?" a laughing Fiorina said, while quoting a friend who had recently seen Boxer on television. "So yesterday."

Fiorina also questioned why Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman had decided to go on Sean Hannity's show the day after winning her party's primary.

"It's really surprising that on the first day of the general [election], Meg Whitman is going on Sean Hannity," she said. "I think it's bizarre…I think it's a very bad choice actually. You know how he is."

Contacted by CNN about the comments, a spokesperson for Fiorina downplayed the remarks. "This was nothing but early morning small talk," Fiorina campaign press secretary Amy Thoma said in an e-mail to CNN.

Boxer is one of our best Senators.
She voted against Iraq war, and against dismantling of financial regulations.
Fiorina is from same extremist party as Bush etc., same "biz skills".

I warned those who support Fiorina that she is a back stabber just like Sarah Palin. Fiorina supported McCain, then she stabbed him in the back. Sarah Palin ran with McCain and then back stabbed him claiming it was his campaigns fault she lost. Wake up out there people, you're voting for "sleeper cells".

I would not have expected someone who had been the CEO of a Fortune 10 company to evaluate the viability of a rival by the style of their hair. Fiorina apparently has internalized a degree of sexism if, in fact, she feels that the first qualification for a woman in a leadership position is to be well coiffed. Maybe we should make Carly in charge of nail polish and hand bags...and leave the heavy lifting of leadership to people who are competent, but shlumpy...like Boxer.

so, Carly...your former company you did soooo well for is now laying off 9000 more people...so...well, soooo....well, soooo Carly. Boxer has 'yesterday ' hair; you were a miserable failure at being a CEO.
sound about right? Does to me...

Carly Fiorina is right about criticizing Meg Whitman for going on the Sean Hannity show as he is a nightmare conservative that thinks Reagan should still be in office, never mind he was president over 25 years ago; this guy lives in the past and criticizes everyone who does not meet his conservative standards. I hope Carly never goes on his show. She is so intelligent, I hope she beats Barbara Boxer. Remember when Barbara Boxer took down a Major General for not addressing her as Madame Senator or some crazy thing; Boxer is arrogant and conceited; she is also disrespectful to our military and a sarcastic hateful human being. I really hope the voters in CA see the truth and vote a real woman in who made it to the top by her hard work and intelligence.

No wonder she got fired as CEO of HP...with all that petty small talk and stabbing everyone in the back, including her own Kool Aid network.

It so interesting that the GOP tries to play the DEMS as elitist, (though some are), but meanwhile back at the Ranch, California has two pure elitist running for the Governorship, as well as the Senate........
    Fiorina's comment proves it all.............

These two corporatist, want to take over California, only to sell it, and gut it of any regulation..........all in the name of growth.......
Now I won't lie....it's tempting to vote for the ex CEO of google......in light of the fact that Cali needs a face lift......the only thing is, does Cali forget that they just finished with one (R).........Do they want another?
That said, i think Fiorina will lose to Sen. Boxer.

Wait a minute... let me get this straight. So a woman with a 8 year old boy's haircut is making fun of a woman with a normal haircut? That's comedy.

my mom had the same haircut as this woman in 1974. so i think she needs to rethink her own sense of style.

Well I agree about Boxer's hair being awful but I thought she would love Hannity. She is jealous because Whitman got there first. hahaha

Yes Carly, it is hair that matters. I guess when you don't have much INSIDE your head you focus on the hair. Besides, I find Boxer very attractive and I'm only 31.

With so many things to be concerned about and this person has to take a "dig" at another's appearance? Family Values and being a respectful person has no place in this person's life, that is evident.

    Sad day :-(

Boy, that should be the worse thing someone says about me or anyone else. Interesting that the other day, I read someone attacking Fiorina's looks too. She should start thinking of how she is going to answer her critics about the HP debacle. Is there any depth to her?

to stevegee @ June 9th, 2010 5:23 pm ET: that is exactly the problem with conservatives. All you care about is putting the country on the "right"(wing) track; you couldn't care less about putting the country on the RIGHT track.
