Open mic catches Fiorina dig at Boxer

(CNN) – Newly-minted U.S. Senate Republican nominee Carly Fiorina added her name Wednesday to the annals of unfortunate politicians caught by an open mic.

Waiting to be interviewed by affiliate KXTV Wednesday morning, Fiorina is clearly heard taking a dig at her rival for the California Senate seat, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-California.

"God, what is that hair?" a laughing Fiorina said, while quoting a friend who had recently seen Boxer on television. "So yesterday."

Fiorina also questioned why Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman had decided to go on Sean Hannity's show the day after winning her party's primary.

"It's really surprising that on the first day of the general [election], Meg Whitman is going on Sean Hannity," she said. "I think it's bizarre…I think it's a very bad choice actually. You know how he is."

Contacted by CNN about the comments, a spokesperson for Fiorina downplayed the remarks. "This was nothing but early morning small talk," Fiorina campaign press secretary Amy Thoma said in an e-mail to CNN.

–CNN Associate Producer Martina Stewart contributed to this report.

I watched every second of this.
Thank you for reaffirming why I can't stand politicians.
This woman is about as interesting as bellybutton lint,
and about as sincere as a used car salesman.

Chatty little snobby girl trapped in (frighteningly) an adult involved in American politics.

Ah-ha...what a fortunate error for voters; they have a chance to see Carly's true stripes are shining through. She's a shallow, manipulating person just like she was at HP. People, she got fired from HP and took about $42M in a golden parachute! What about that do you NOT get? Please keep her out of CA politics! Can't she go back and play with McCain? As for Whitman...same type of snake in the grass. Running to FOX News and Hannity no doubt.

When are states and the federal government going to ban felons from running for office? This should not even be an issue and it's not a first.
He may not even be able to vote for himself as a felon, but he may be able to establish our laws?
Tell me again the problem with this country is Obama. Look to yourselves voters!

Carly is a mean girl that doesn't have the credentials (i.e. looks) to be a mean girl. She's no Sarah Palin. Not that I agree with anything Sarah P has to say but she is pretty enough to get away with mean girl behavior.

She sounds like some high school teenager. She seems to worry more about her looks than substance. She throws a bunch of money at the primaries with no real agenda. Fortunately Californians are smart enough to see through her shallowness. Remember she was fired at HP for her own Watergate-like scandal. Hiring investigators to follow news reporters that she didn't like, covertly investigating members of her board, searching through people's email. She also took down Lucent before HP. What a leader?

What exactly does Fiorina bring? She has the unique qualification of being fired at HP by her own hand-picked Board of Directors for taking a legendary company down the tubes. Come to think of it, isn't that a parallel for the performance of George W. Bush?

Any non progressive democrat should know by now that the liberal media will go out of their way to make you look bad off the air and then post it!

What a pahtetic, drama-queen society we have become, to think we care about this stuff. No wonder terrorists are striking a weak nation.

What is that she said so wrong – Hannity interview are much harder for a non conservative republican. She is right about it.

As for the hair comment – Carly had cancer and had lost her hair as she had chemo.

Spoken by a real beauty queen! What's worse is that she's arrogant about it even after being fired from HP for ineptitude. Now she wants to share her "talents" and "beauty" for California. No thanks!

Carla looks like a tired old woman, nothing she can do about that, her hair-do is so old fashioned, with all the make up on she is certainly not good looking and should not talk about Barbara,s looks before checking her mirror and her mike.

Isn't the reason for Fiorina's hair cut, due to the fact she is recovering from Breast Cancer? If so, then I think her hair is cute, since she is lucky to have hair at all. HOWever, I will NOT vote for her. I am voting for Barbara Boxer. People don't like my hair, well, pee on them, I love it. I live in a senior citizen area, I have red hair with 3 purple stripes in it. I don't care, because I am a good person.

Carly Fiorina is a horrible person. She told FLAT-OUT lies that were subsequently bunked SO HARD against now President Obama. She turned her back on McCain when he picked Palin instead of her. I am so glad. She wouldhave made McCain's life miserable and life in the senate hell had the nation been so foolish as to elect the two of them..

Really?! This is really what CNN calls 'dirt'? This is nothing compared to what my governor, Rick Perry, once said on open mic on TV, "Adios, Mofo". Seriously, CNN, find something with more substance to it. People say Hillary Clinton looks like a lesbian all the time. Heck, even I think Lindsay Graham looks like a transsexual. It's not like Carly's gonna be forced to apologize for saying on mic what somebody looks like in a negative connotation.

"...but Sean Hannity is not an easy interview..."
