Washington (CNN) - National Incident Commander Adm. Thad Allen sent a letter Thursday to BP Board Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg asking that he "and any appropriate officials from BP," meet June 16 with senior administration officials, including President Barack Obama.
Read Allen's letter to BP here [pdf].
UPDATE: A senior administration official confirms the BP meeting will take place next Wednesday at the White House.
While the letter doesn’t specifically mention controversial BP CEO Tony Hayward by name, the administration official said “the letter asks the Chairman to bring any appropriate [BP] officials to the meeting and we assume that includes the CEO.”
Haward is scheduled to testify before Congress the following day.

Just another chance for the Feds to berate BP to deflect criticism from their own handling of this mess!
Kick their you know what ...
This is directed to John King, in liaison to his TV programe , about the oil spill in the gulf. Well Louisiana Governor Bob JINDAL shouldnt be using this oil spill in the gulf as a political platform for his agenda, first of all i think during the campaign, he has always shown negativity toward president obama, and has never shown support at all, he despises poor people thinking that to get to the TOP OF LIFE IT HAPPENS MAGICALLY. He Bob Jindal must have been fortunate in THIS LIFE TO HAVE been raised by upper class parents and he probably doesnt know what it means to grab a bite on the streets etc, I should say he is one of those fortunate people.
Anyway the bottom of the line here is that? What does he want the president TO DO ON THIS ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER? The president has a team of experts who are directly involved I mean he is not the scientist, he is a lawyer, even if he was a scientist he can not just jump into OTHER PEOPLES JURISDICTIONS, WHAT IS IT THAT SOME AMERICAN PEOPLE DONT GET, THAT EVEN AN AFRICAN MAN BORN IN AFRICA CAN COMPREHEND? The federal Government has its manpower display through the COAST GUARD and / or the NAVY, then a Bunch of scientist, they are doing their job and let the MEDIA AND AMERICAN PEOPLE INCLUDING ME GIVE THEM SOME MATHEMATICAL TIME. LET US REASON, ITS SMART TO DO SO.
This is my first comment on this situation in the Gulf. We need all tyopes of clean up efforts in full force now. We are looking at an environmental disater beyond our imagination. Extreme weather changes due to the oil and GAS mixing with hurricane force winds. Let us not forget the effect the oil spill will have on climate change (the GAS and oil is being absorbed by the Sun). Oil in the earth is surrounded by rockbeads under the ocean floor. The question still being asked is what effect will this have on the ocean floor or underwater earthquakes? No one seems to know.
So what Americans are looking for President Obama to do is not get angry but to show how angry he is by ordering BP to put every means available in the Gulf to clean it up! We should see hair, straw, vacums, large navy vessels, The National guard and citizens helping in the clean-up until the hole is capped. Americans would also like to see BP's assets frozen including stocks until the leak is fixed. Americans feel we have been invaded and America needs to pull Rank.
They should be arrested when they show up in Washington. They have done nothing but lie from the first day of the explosion. Every day the real truth gets worse and worse.
BP is preventing workers from speaking to the media but put out a memo saying the workers are free to talk – another lie.
BP is preventing the government- named scientists from receiving the data they need to accurately determine how much oil is spewing from the broken well.
BP has a long record of safety violations, spills, worker accidents and deaths (TX City refinery fire), Alaskan pipeline spill because they did not maintain proper equipment. Employees are intimidated into staying quiet on safety issues or be retaliated against .
It's time to shut down BP operations in American waters and seize their profits so the fishermen, business owners, and other valid claimants can get regular and consistent payments for thier losses.
BP is a foreign company doing intentional damage to our country and we need to fight back by taking over and shutting them down in the US. Momey and profit are all they care about and it will be the only way to get their full attention.
These BP people coming to Washington are just going to lie more and all act like they know nothing. It will be a useless exercise unless they are threatened with immediate arrest and/or be presented with papers to seize assets to get the people in the Gulf states the money they need.
SHUT BP RIGS DOWN NOW!
Go poor a 50 gallon drum of oil in your local water ways, see how fast they take everything away you have to your name, their wouldnt be no hearings, the numerous laws already on the books would be just fine to take care of us, and like everything else they start to investagate ( like the swedish bank accounts from pepole in the US hiding money over their) our free loading elected officals have to hide all that special interist money somewhere they get under the table, oops cant investagate that. Are thier any real investagative reporters out thier any more, or are we just going to keep getting the waterd down stuff as always
