(CNN) – Former President Bill Clinton hit the campaign trail for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Thursday, telling Nevada Democrats that Reid's opponent is "hiding out" because of her controversial views.
"Now you've got to play 'Where's Sharron [Angle]?' because she's hiding out, according to the local news. I might hide out, too, if I said I wanted to get rid of Social Security and Medicare," Clinton told an audience of 700 people during a 30-minute speech in Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas-Review Journal.
Clinton also took aim at Angle for support of a plan that would have Yucca Mountain accept nuclear waste. Reid, as have most Nevada lawmakers, opposes opening Yucca to nuclear waste.
Since her victory in Tuesday's GOP Senate primary, Angle - a former state assemblywoman who was backed by Tea Party organizations - has largely avoided the spotlight, only granting interviews to conservative talk-radio hosts. Her campaign website has also gone dark except for a page that seeks contributions.
Commenting to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Angle campaign spokesman Jerry Stacy said they have been "overwhelmed."
"Sharron's not hiding out," he said. "We're just taking some time to get things where they need to be to run a general election campaign. We're expanding our operation exponentially, and so we're pretty busy."
In an e-mail to CNN, Stacy also said "Sharron has done several media interviews already since her win on Tuesday, and we’re still scheduling as many as possible."
Reid is viewed as among the most vulnerable Democrats running for reelection this cycle and currently has an approval rating of 35 percent in his home state, according to a recent Mason-Dixon Poll. In the same poll, conducted before Angle's primary victory, she has a 3-point edge over Reid in a head-to-head matchup.

The worst thing for Reid is to have Clinton and Obama campaign for him.
The republican party has tried thier level best to destroy social security and medicare ever since thier inseptions.the reason being they want the american poeple to invest in companys like AIG and others that went belly up so they can keep us working for dirt cheap wages with no benefits to speak of until we drop dead from over work so that they can keep on banking thier ill gotten gains at our expense.I never realized just how criminal the republican party was until 1980 when reagan broke the law to end the air traffic controller stike and gave big business the club to beat us the working person down and keep us down.
Sorry Willie, Reid MUST GO!!!
Reid is bleeding America dry!
Reid is OUT!
Although I don't always agree with Clinton he was a great President who presided over a time of great propserity for all Americans. He's probably as disappointed as anybody at how Bush/Cheney screwed everything up during their eight years.
Clinton is very good at exposing the right-wing self-serving policies of corporate welfare while Repubs promote the destruction of the middle class.
How the liberal media continues to bow to the only President impeached in the 20th century is amazing. If Reid or other the other liberal incumbents have an common sense remaining they would create as much distance between their re-election efforts from Clinton and Obama as possible. But then again, they are the dinosaurs staring at the asteroid in the sky.
If you look at the track record the Tea Party candidates have established so far, is it any wonder the the M.O.s for this group and the people they back is "Nut Jobs". First Rand Paul and his comments, now this Ms. Angle. Her extreme views are off the chart...
Get rid of social security, get rid of medicare???
Hold on to your britches old people. If you are so angry at President Obama that you would rather have people like the two mentioned, then have at it my friends....
Whats the problem with Bill Clinton saying whats on his mind? Frankly, I'm ready to have Bill Clinton back. I never had so much $ in my pocket as when he was in office.
Bill, please! I know you feel obligated to support your party, but Harry Reid??? He's part of the evil DC trinity that's destroying our country. They should all take a lesson from your administraion, you rocked!!! And I'm sure you agree, Hillary should be the one in the oval office.......
The current primaries and what's to come in November is not partisan, it's about incumbency and a miserably failed Congress.
Wait till the general public see what that looney tunes
Angle's policies are! LOL!!!!
Angle's victory is a gift to Reid. She is WAY out on the fringe.
About what you would respect from a liberal person . . . if you have nothing to say then do the blame game and made fun of the other person . . . what a shame in where Obama has taken this country.
What exactly is "mocking" by telling the truth? Thatnis like saing it is "mocking" cheney by pointing out that he is guilty of suporting torture. It is like pointing out that republicons ideas of deregulation caused massive disasters. That is not mockery, it is telling the truth. Pointing out that palin is a ignorant hick in a stewardess outfit? Kind of a mix of mockery and truth....
