(CNN) - He's said he has no plans to run for president in 2012, but Lousiana Gov. Bobby Jindal's handling of the oil crisis off the Gulf Coast may have earned him a number of new supporters who hope he reconsiders.
On the Louisiana coast this week, CNN's John King even passed by a homemade "Jindal for President" sign – something that made the Louisiana Republican chuckle.
"I've got my hands full down here, we've got to protect our state; we've got plenty of work to do in Louisiana," Jindal told King Thursday.
The 39 year-old governor of Indian descent has long been considered a rising star in the Republican Party, though his star power took a bit of hit last year following a poorly received response to President Obama's State of the Union Address.
Speaking at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in April, Jindal – who faces reelection next year - said he will not be a candidate for president in 2012.
"I am not running for president of the United States," he said then. "I've got the job I want."

But which Jindal would run? The bumbling idiot that gave the Party of No's response to the State of the Union or the one that has tried to act so in control with the gulf oil spill?
Please...as if...he can't handle his own state affairs let alone the nations. He keeps crying that Obama isn't doing enough about the oil at the same time claiming he wants smaller goverment and less oversite. You can't have it both ways jinger. you voted for the oil companies and have been getting kickbacks from them, you solve the problem. kinda hard when the shoes on the other foot isn't it.
"I've got my hands full down here, we've got to protect our state; we've got plenty of work to do in Louisiana," Jindal told King Thursday.
Typacal two faced Republinazi. Get tough on the oil spill, get TV coverage. Ask him about the chemical companies and their toxic pollution and the elevated cancers and sickness around their plants. He won't talk about it because he's been paid off by them. Yep typical. Bought and paid for. Lots of "work" to do. ChaChing$$$$$$$
Sorry – no way no day a Republican from La will be PTOUS.
But it still with the Party of big "NO" so just say NO......NO.........NO.....NO.........!!!!!
Is he going to come clean about his stopping the state's funding of ACORN. hey, this organization had some problems, but it's a FACT...Check it out.....there never was any state funding....just a political ploy by Bobby....If he's going to run, please BE HONEST!!!!
I will keep on saying it, and I will say it again, CONServatives are sick, repulsive, repugnant and oblivious to anything good for AMERICA......ALL OF THEM.......
Jindal is wise enough to know that Obama has and will have an even greater complete record of success that will be hard to beat. Plus, Jindal also knows that Obama is a gifted orator who will outshine him and is more popular nationwide and world wide than he is. Good choice bobby!!
You are not running Jindal because you know the Republican party will never let an independent thinking minority represent them. And since you refuse to be another Michael Steele, you know you have no chance of winnig the primary. Besides, you cannot win against President Obama, none of you can. Better off waiting until 2016 when you actually may have a chance.
he...and for that matter, anyone...would be better than the empty suit we have now
What has Bobby Jindal been doing to clean up LA oil spill?? I only hear him complain the government is not doing enough. If I remember right, Mr. Jindal doesn't like big govenment. Isn't Jindal the government ??
I seen Slummdog Millionaire. So therefore Bobby Jindal needs to stick with acting.
Gotta love this about Bobby Jindal- he's got his priorities in order. Bobby, you do what you need to do over there. If you ever feel ready to help us here, we'll keep the seat warm for you.
If he does run I hope he gets some great photo ops wearing that "DRILL BABY DRILL" T-shirt he used to sport, that out to really make him popular with his state's residents.
Wasn't he one of the "we need smaller government, less federal spending, don't regulate corporations because they'll always do what's in the country's best interest" kinda guys. Now it's "why isn't the government doing more?". How's that working for ya Bobby?
What exactly has he done in handing the oil spill? Can anyone give us a list of all he has actually done...not said, but done? And then tell us what Obama has done. And then compare the two.
Can't Bobby Jindal and the state of Louisiana use chickens to pay for the cleanup?
This is far worse than the Katrina response, because Huesein Obama is an imcompetant fraud. Every time he walks into a room in DC, he is the most inexperienced and unqualified man in the room.
To quote Borack, "Jindal for president...NOT."
Jindal will be like Guilliani; he'll only know a noun, a verb and the Oil Guft Spill Disaster.
CNN, why won't you post my comments?
Here's the ironic thing: when it was Bush who was messing up the Katrina clean-up, people like Jindal screamed from the roof tops that the state and New Orleans should have been better prepared. Now that the oil spill is Obama's mess. you have Jindal and people like him screaming from the roof tops that Obama's administration hasn't done enough.
So which is it, Republicans? You can't have it both ways.
Who would vote for a clown like Jindal for POTUS, only an idiot like the one who considered Failin Pailin for VP is who. Jindal stands as much a chance of being elected POTUS as Hayward of BP does, in fact Hayward would probably be a better choice, at least when he turned on you and stabbed you in the back he would only be acting true to your expectations!
Mr. Jindal, please spare yourself the embarr(ass)ment. Obama will beat you like you Stole something
You have to love the Repugnants, they can't decide between one loser or another, either way with the best the Repugnants have to offer it is an easy run for Obama in 2012, the Repugnants don't even have a decent dog catcher in the bunch!
Bobby Jindal couldn't lead himself out of a wet paper, let alone anyone else. In fact, he should stick to one principal & shut up! Either he hates the federal goverment, or he wants to suck on its teat! But he's not man enough to have a firm stand. Typical of all GOPers!
It would certainly great to have a competent man like Gov Jindal in the White House right now over the disaster that we have!!!!
