Nazi comparisons kick off California race

(CNN) - Given California's colorful political history, perhaps it's no surprise the just-kicked off gubernatorial race has taken a peculiar turn, with one candidate accusing the other of using Nazi-like tactics.

During an apparent off-the-cuff interview with a KCBS reporter published Wednesday, state Attorney Gen. Jerry Brown, the Democratic candidate, alleged opponent Meg Whitman of disseminating propaganda about him in the same way the Nazis did.

"It's like Goebbels...Goebbels invented this kind of propaganda," said Brown in reference to Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi Minister of Propaganda. "He took control of the whole world. She wants to be president. That's her ambition, the first woman president. That's what this is all about."

The comments were made while Brown was jogging and his campaign dismissed the remarks as mere "jogging talk."

"You know, by the time she's done with me, two months from now, I'll be a child-molesting..." Brown also said in the same interview. "She'll have people believing whatever she wants about me."

Jillian Hasner, Whitman's campaign manager, said in a statement that Brown's comments are "deeply offensive."

"Jerry Brown's statements comparing our campaign to a propagator of the Holocaust [are] deeply offensive and entirely unacceptable," she said.

After Arnold Swhwartz-a-nutt-job who can blame them for the Nazi comparisions.

I still can't get over that video of Arnold playing with his big knife. Maybe he cut him self on it and needs an ice pack from Maria!

Jerry Brown may not be too far off of what Queen Meg has planned. She vowed to spend over $40 million to destroy Steve Poizner and did a pretty good job of it. There should be a cap on what any candidate can spend on elections. At the rate elections are going in this country, only the extremely wealthy will win elections, not by qualification but by how much they can spend distorting the truth.

I think Former Governor Brown is getting feeble minded in his "old age".

Is it wrong for someone to "want" to be POTUS. Especially a woman. Did he say the same thing about Obama that he was running for the Senate because he wanted to be President? No, he saved the comments for a woman. Showing that worse than the Nazi statement which was bad enough, he is also Gender biased....

    Go Meg!!!

Is it just me are is everyone sick and tired of hearing the term "Nazi" thrown around at the drop of a hat. It seems like every personality, law or movement that comes from the right is attacked by the left with the label "Nazi". It's old already!!!!!!

California PLEASE wake up and don't vote for another term of Gov. Moon Beam...many of you are too young to know how this would be a disaster for California.....we don't need another career tax and spend politician to chase more jobs out of this state. Whitman may not be my first choice, but I would vote for a business woman any day, business people understand the needs of businesses and how to balance a budget.

Enough with the destruction these tax and spend liberals are doing to our already bankrupt state. Boxer needs to be removed as well.

The GOP has been following the Goebbels format for years. Goebbels said if you repeat the same information over and again the masses will begin to believe it. Just take "tax & spend democrats" for example. Reagan and the Bush administrations spent much, much more than the Clinton or Obama. Blame the Dems for spending and then spend more yourself. Research it, you'll find it true.

What's the deal with all the "Nazi" comparisons lately? Do people really understand what the Nazis, under Hitler did. They executed Jews, Gypsys, Homosexuals, and Mentally Ill people to the tune of 10,000,000 plus. They started a war that caused the deaths of over 50,000,000 people. To compare someone to a Nazi because they tell a lie about you or spread false information is something only a really ignorant person would do.

There's a reason Jerry Brown was called "Governor Moonbeam"–he's kinda out of touch with reality.

The comparrison was for style, not political beliefs. As usual, CNN chose a headline that was designed for a tabloid, not a serious news agency.

ha ha ...good old Jerry. That's the spirit Jerry. Yes the comparison to Goebbels is spot on. Whitman is trying to portray herself as pie in sky with "solutions" and gimmicks to make everything perfect. Brown is the realist and tells it like it is without the B.S. and games that Whitman uses.

As a former Cali kid and collegiate graduate out of California I can say without hesitation that the politicians of this state have lost their sun loving minds. Someone needs to check the quality of the air going through the ventilation systems at the government offices.

71 million personal dollars spent by Whitman to plant her rotund arse in the Governor's Mansion. And didn't care much about politics since she hasn't voted in 30 years. Is this what you really want CA?

While I agree that Meg wants to buy -or -Be President- the word Nazi should not be used – It's as bad as the baggers comparing the President to Hitler.

Get over it Meg. Before you start acting all offended, let's see what kind of BS you come up with. You and your party thrive on lies and propaganda. He's telling the truth.

There go far left Democrats invoking nazism again, even though nazism is a product of the far left: socialism. Ironic or formulated that the left constantly invokes this as they are the ones who are ever more less tolerant of views that do not correlate to their own.
